    A Reflective Evaluation of Group Assessment

    There is a general agreement in the literature that groupwork helps to develop important interpersonal and personal skills (Race, 2001; Visram & Joy, 2003; Elliot & Higgins, 2005; Kench et al, 2008). However, one of the problems with groupwork for both students and lecturers is how the work should be assessed (Parsons & Kassabova, 2002). The possibility of having ‘free-riders’ and the difficulty of fairly awarding marks to reflect the level of students’ contribution to a group output are some of the key problem areas in groupwork assessment (Race, 2001). Peer assessment is seen as one of the methods to deal with these problems. It can generally involve students assessing each other’s level of contribution to the group’s output (Visram & Joy, 2003).     We rewrite the Born-Infeld Lagrangian, which is originally given by the determinant of a 4×44 \times 4 matrix composed of the metric tensor gg and the field strength tensor FF, using the determinant of a (4⋅2n)×(4⋅2n)(4 \cdot 2^n) \times (4 \cdot 2^n) matrix H4⋅2nH_{4 \cdot 2^{n}}. If the elements of H4⋅2nH_{4 \cdot 2^{n}} are given by the linear combination of gg and FF, it is found, based on the representation matrix for the multiplication operator of the Cayley-Dickson algebras, that H4⋅2nH_{4 \cdot 2^{n}} is distinguished by a single parameter, where distinguished matrices are not similar matrices.     Creating and Sharing Fedora Installation Package for Ubuntu

This poster proposal presents an open source strategy to help address some of these challenges. The NSF funded NSDL Materials Digital Library Pathway (MatDL) offers a Fedora-based open repository and is moving toward using the Ubuntu distribution of Linux on all of its servers to capitalize on the advantages of Ubuntu. However, currently there is no easy way to implement Ubuntu with Fedora-based repositories. This poster describes MatDL's efforts to co-develop and host a Fedora installation package for Ubuntu.The Materials Digital Library Pathway (DUE-0532831) is supported by the National Science Foundation
