    Noncommutative D-Brane in Non-Constant NS-NS B Field Background

    Get PDF
We show that when the field strength H of the NS-NS B field does not vanish, the coordinates X and momenta P of an open string endpoints satisfy a set of mixed commutation relations among themselves. Identifying X and P with the coordinates and derivatives of the D-brane world volume, we find a new type of noncommutative spaces which is very different from those associated with a constant B field background.Comment: 11 pages, Latex, minor modification

Orientifolds of Matrix theory and Noncommutative Geometry

    Get PDF
We study explicit solutions for orientifolds of Matrix theory compactified on noncommutative torus. As quotients of torus, cylinder, Klein bottle and M\"obius strip are applicable as orientifolds. We calculate the solutions using Connes, Douglas and Schwarz's projective module solution, and investigate twisted gauge bundle on quotient spaces as well. They are Yang-Mills theory on noncommutative torus with proper boundary conditions which define the geometry of the dual space.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, minor corrections, two references added, discussions slightly expanded, to appear in Phys. Matrix Compactification On Orientifolds

    Get PDF
Generalizing previous results for orbifolds, in this paper we describe the compactification of Matrix model on an orientifold which is a quotient space as a Yang-Mills theory living on a quantum space. The information of the compactification is encoded in the action of the discrete symmetry group G on Euclidean space and a projective representation U of G. The choice of Hilbert space on which the algebra of U is realized as an operator algebra corresponds to the choice of a physical background for the compactification. All these data are summarized in the spectral triple of the quantum space.Comment: 28 pages, late

Nambu-Poisson Bracket and M-Theory Branes Coupled to Antisymmetric Fluxes

By using the recently proposed prescription arXiv:0804.3629 for obtaining the M5M5 brane action from multiple M2M2 branes action in BLG theory, we examine such transition when 11 Dimensional background antisymmetric fluxes couple to the M2M2 brane world volume. Such couplings was suggested in arXiv:0805.3427 where it was used the fact that various fields in BLG theory are valued in a Lie 3-algebra. We argue that this action and promoting it by Nambu-Poisson bracket gives the expected coupling of fluxes with M5M5 brane at least at weak coupling limit. We also study some other aspects of the action for example, the gauge invariance of the theory.Comment: 14 page

    A Non-Abelian Self-Dual Gauge Theory in 5+1 Dimensions

We construct a non-Abelian gauge theory of chiral 2-forms (self-dual gauge fields) in 6 dimensions with a spatial direction compactified on a circle of radius R. It has the following two properties. (1) It reduces to the Yang-Mills theory in 5 dimensions for small R. (2) It is equivalent to the Lorentz-invariant theory of Abelian chiral 2-forms when the gauge group is Abelian. Previous no-go theorems prohibiting non-Abelian deformations of the chiral 2-form gauge theory are circumvented by introducing nonlocality along the compactified dimension.Comment: 23 pages, reference adde

On Effective Action of Multiple M5-branes and ABJM Action

    Get PDF
We calculate the fluctuations from the classical multiple M5-brane solution of ABJM action which we found in the previous paper. We obtain D4-brane-like action but the gauge coupling constant depends on the spacetime coordinate. This is consistent with the expected properties of M5-brane action, although we will need to take into account the monopole operators in order to fully understand M5-branes. We also see that the Nambu-Poisson bracket is hidden in the solution.Comment: 21 pages; v2:version to appear in JHE

Canonical Quantization of Open String and Noncommutative Geometry

    Get PDF
We perform canonical quantization of open strings in the DD-brane background with a BB-field. Treating the mixed boundary condition as a primary constraint, we get a set of secondary constraints. Then these constraints are shown to be equivalent to orbifold conditions to be imposed on normal string modes. These orbifold conditions are a generalization of the familiar orbifold conditions which arise when we describe open strings in terms of closed strings. Solving the constraints explicitly, we obtain a simple Hamiltonian for the open string, which reveals the nature of noncommutativity transparently.Comment: 14 pages, RevTex, added reference

Noncommutative Differential Calculus for D-brane in Non-Constant B Field Background

    Get PDF
In this paper we try to construct noncommutative Yang-Mills theory for generic Poisson manifolds. It turns out that the noncommutative differential calculus defined in an old work is exactly what we need. Using this calculus, we generalize results about the Seiberg-Witten map, the Dirac-Born-Infeld action, the matrix model and the open string quantization for constant B field to non-constant background with H=0.Comment: 21 pages, Latex file, references added, minor modificatio
