    Risk mitigation for ITER by a prolonged and joint international

    Prolonged operation of the Joint European Torus (JET) in a set-up involving all ITER partners will be beneficial for ITER. Experiments at JET with its ITER-like wall and using a D–T plasma mixture will help to mitigate risks in the ITER research plan. Training of the ITER operators, technicians and engineers at JET will safe valuable time when ITER comes into operation. Moreover, the way in which the future ITER experiments will be organized can already be experienced at JET, by imposing a similar organisational structure. This paper will present arguments in favour of an extension of JET and additionally briefly discuss a number of enhancements that will make experiments on JET even more relevant for ITER

    Visible light tomography on RTP

    A diagnostic for visible light tomography is being prepared for the Rijnhuizen Tokamak Project (RTP). Light emitted in the range of 200 to 1100 nm will be detected by five cameras positioned around the plasma in one poloidal plane. Each camera has 16 detector elements. The 80 channels are provided with parallel electronics with a bandwidth of 200 kHz. Imaging systems are used to collect the light on the detector elements. The resolution of this system is of the order of 1 cm. Optical filters in front of the detectors can select interesting wavelength ranges, such as spectral lines or a line-free part of the continuum radiatio

    A CW capable inline electron cyclotron emission (ECE) separation system for feedback control, featuring oversized corrugated waveguides, is commissioned on ASDEX upgrade (AUG). The system is based on a combination of a polarization independent, non-resonant, Mach-Zehnder diplexer equipped with dielectric plate beam splitters [2, 3] employed as corrugated oversized waveguide filter, and a resonant Fast Directional Switch, FADIS [4, 5, 6, 7] as ECE/ECCD separation system.
