    Get PDF
Background. Bowel injuries are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality following trauma. Evaluating patients who sustained abdominal trauma with bowel injury may pose a significant diagnostic challenge to the surgeon. Prompt recognition and timely intervention is necessary to improve outcome. Aim. This study was undertaken to evaluate treatment and outcome of patients with bowel trauma. Methods. A 5-year retrospective study of all patients presenting with abdominal trauma requiring surgical intervention seen in the UCH Ibadan, Nigeria was undertaken. Results. There were 71 patients (59 males and 12 females). The majority of cases (70%) occurred between the 3rd and 5th decades of life. Some 37 patients (52%) sustained blunt abdominal injury, while 34 patients (48%) sustained penetrating abdominal injury. There were 27 patients with bowel injuries (38%). Isolated bowel injuries occurred in 19 patients (27%). The most common surgical operation performed was simple closure. There were 3 deaths in patients with bowel injuries. Conclusion. Most cases of bowel injury can be managed by simple closure, a technique that is not so technically demanding for surgeons in less-developed countries. This study has also incidentally identified a “rule of six” for patients with bowel injuries and abdominal trauma

    Get PDF
Due to digital revolution, mass media has a great presence in people's lives. Hence, there is a prevailing media culture of incessant and changing information. This generates the need to develop a media literacy to be taught as part of a media competence in Peruvian classrooms. This would be presented with greater complexity and precision within the Peruvian National Curriculum of Basic Education in order to accomplish the ideal of the knowledge society. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to carry out a theoretical review and an analysis of media literacy and its realization as a media competence in the curriculum. Because of this, it is concluded that some aspects of media competence are present in different curricular areas (Art and Culture, Communication, Social Sciences and Personal Development Citizenship and Civics) in addition to the transversal competence 28. However, these aspects are not exclusively or systematically presented as proposed by Ferrés through six dimensions. For this reason, it is proposed to include this competence within the area of communication, considering the characteristics and needs of the Peruvian educational system for the elaboration of its respective capacities and performances.

A study on the impact of granivorous birds on rice yield was carried out at the Bokonzi High School of Agricultural Studies, located in the Sud-Ubangi province in Democratic Republic of Congo. The aim of the study was to evaluate the yield deficit of rice in husk, due to the birds in study area. The results showed that the rate of deficit due to the birds is 4.67% for fields kept on surveillanceand 28.35% without surveillance (about 16.1% of yield/ha). According of the current price of dry paddy in this area, the yield deficit of rice in value is respectively 28.35 USD and 167 USD with an average of 97.83USD of deficit/ha. This loss of yield constitutesan important economic and social deficit for the rice culture practitioners

The influence of combination of feed based on rice bran and inorganic fertilizer (NPK-17-17-17) was tested in a three months studt on growth performances of snakehead fish in non-drained pond. Daily growth obtained with this mixed feed of rice bran combined with inorganic fertilization profited well to snakehead fish with growth of 1.463 g/day against 0.765 g/day for the control. This type of feed could be proposed to increase the production of fish farming in the trial area

A study on the impact of granivorous birds on rice yield was carried out at the Bokonzi High School of Agricultural Studies, located in the Sud-Ubangi province in Democratic Republic of Congo. The aim of the study was to evaluate the yield deficit of rice in the field, due to the birds in the study area. The results showed that the yield deficit due to the birds was 4.67 % for fields kept on surveillance and 28.3 % without surveillance (about 16.1 % of yield/ha). According of the current price of dry paddy in this area, the yield deficit of rice in value is respectively 28.3 USD and 167 USD with an average of 97.8 USD of deficit/ha. This loss of yield constitutes an important economic and social deficit for the farmers. KEYWORDS: Oryza sativa, Granivorous birds, Surveillance, Yield, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
