Topological Structure of Dense Hadronic Matter
We present a summary of work done on dense hadronic matter, based on the
Skyrme model, which provides a unified approach to high density, valid in the
large limit. In our picture, dense hadronic matter is described by the
{\em classical} soliton configuration with minimum energy for the given baryon
number density. By incorporating the meson fluctuations on such ground state we
obtain an effective Lagrangian for meson dynamics in a dense medium. Our
starting point has been the Skyrme model defined in terms of pions, thereafter
we have extended and improved the model by incorporating other degrees of

Satellite Clustering for Non-Terrestrial Networks: Concept, Architectures, and Applications
Recently, mega-constellations with a massive number of low Earth orbit (LEO)
satellites are being considered as a possible solution for providing global
coverage due to relatively low latency and high throughput compared to
geosynchronous orbit satellites. However, as the number of satellites and
operators participating in the LEO constellation increases, inter-satellite
interference will become more severe, which may yield marginal improvement or
even decrement in network throughput. In this article, we introduce the concept
of satellite clusters that can enhance network performance through satellites'
cooperative transmissions. The characteristics, formation types, and
transmission schemes for the satellite clusters are highlighted. Simulation
results evaluate the impact of clustering from coverage and capacity
perspectives, showing that when the number of satellites is large, the
performance of clustered networks outperforms the unclustered ones. The viable
network architectures of the satellite cluster are proposed based on the 3GPP
standard. Finally, the future applications of clustered satellite networks are

Chiral orbital-angular-momentum in the surface states of Bi2Se3
Locking of the spin of a quasi-particle to its momentum in split bands of on
the surfaces of metals and topological insulators (TIs) is understood in terms
of Rashba effect where a free electron in the surface states feels an effective
magnetic field. On the other hand, the orbital part of the angular momentum
(OAM) is usually neglected. We performed angle resolved photoemission
experiments with circularly polarized lights and first principles density
functional calculation with spin-orbit coupling on a TI, Bi2Se3, to study the
local OAM of the surface states. We show from the results that OAM in the
surface states of Bi2Se3 is significant and locked to the electron momentum in
opposite direction to the spin, forming chiral OAM states. Our finding opens a
new possibility to have strong light-induced spin-polarized current in the

Decreased Peripheral and Central Responses to Acupuncture Stimulation following Modification of Body Ownership
Acupuncture stimulation increases local blood flow around the site of stimulation and induces signal changes in brain regions related to the body matrix. The rubber hand illusion (RHI) is an experimental paradigm that manipulates important aspects of bodily self-awareness. The present study aimed to investigate how modifications of body ownership using the RHI affect local blood flow and cerebral responses during acupuncture needle stimulation. During the RHI, acupuncture needle stimulation was applied to the real left hand while measuring blood microcirculation with a LASER Doppler imager (Experiment 1, N = 28) and concurrent brain signal changes using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI; Experiment 2, N = 17). When the body ownership of participants was altered by the RHI, acupuncture stimulation resulted in a significantly lower increase in local blood flow (Experiment 1), and significantly less brain activation was detected in the right insula (Experiment 2). This study found changes in both local blood flow and brain responses during acupuncture needle stimulation following modification of body ownership. These findings suggest that physiological responses during acupuncture stimulation can be influenced by the modification of body ownership
Genome sequence of the moderately halophilic bacterium Salinicoccus carnicancri type strain CrmT (= DSM 23852T)
Salinicoccus carnicancri Jung et al. 2010 belongs to the genus Salinicoccus in the family Staphylococcaceae. Members of the Salinicoccus are moderately halophilic and originate from various salty environments. The halophilic features of the Salinicoccus suggest their possible uses in biotechnological applications, such as biodegradation and fermented food production. However, the genus Salinicoccus is poorly characterized at the genome level, despite its potential importance. This study presents the draft genome sequence of S. carnicancri strain Crm(T) and its annotation. The 2,673,309 base pair genome contained 2,700 protein-coding genes and 78 RNA genes with an average G+C content of 47.93 mol%. It was notable that the strain carried 72 predicted genes associated with osmoregulation, which suggests the presence of beneficial functions that facilitate growth in high-salt environments.
