Suppression of Non-photonic Electrons from Enhancement of Charm Baryons in Heavy Ion Collisions
At intermediate transverse momentum (2 < p_T < 6 GeV/c), baryon production in
Au+Au collisions is enhanced compared to p+p collisions. Since charm baryon
decays produce electrons less frequently than charm meson decays, the
non-photonic electron spectrum is sensitive to the Lambda_c/D ratio. In this
report we study the dependence of the non-photonic electron spectrum on the
baryon-to-meson ratio for charm hadrons. As an example, we take the Lambda_c/D
ratio to have the same form as the Lambda/K^0_S ratio. In this case, even if
the total charm quark yield in Au+Au collisions scales with the number of
binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (N_bin), the electron spectrum at 2 < p_T < 5
GeV/c is suppressed relative to N_bin scaled p+p collisions by as much as 20%.Comment: Added STAR data to figure 1 and made slight text modifications (fixed

Improving Stochastic Estimator Techniques for Disconnected Diagrams
Disconnected diagrams are expected to be sensitive to the inclusion of
dynamical fermions. We present a feasibility study for the observation of such
effects on the nucleonic matrix elements of the axial vector current, using
SESAM full QCD vacuum configurations with Wilson fermions on
lattices, at . Starting from the standard methods developed by the
Kentucky and Tsukuba groups, we investigate the improvement from various
refinements thereof.Comment: One author added. Contribution to Lattice 1997, 3 pages LaTex, to

Algebraic approach to the Hulthen potential
In this paper the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions are
calculated for Hulthen potential. Then we obtain the ladder operators and show
that these operators satisfy SU(2) commutation relation.Comment: 8 Pages, 1 Tabl
On Representations of Conformal Field Theories and the Construction of Orbifolds
We consider representations of meromorphic bosonic chiral conformal field
theories, and demonstrate that such a representation is completely specified by
a state within the theory. The necessary and sufficient conditions upon this
state are derived, and, because of their form, we show that we may extend the
representation to a representation of a suitable larger conformal field theory.
In particular, we apply this procedure to the lattice (FKS) conformal field
theories, and deduce that Dong's proof of the uniqueness of the twisted
representation for the reflection-twisted projection of the Leech lattice
conformal field theory generalises to an arbitrary even (self-dual) lattice. As
a consequence, we see that the reflection-twisted lattice theories of Dolan et
al are truly self-dual, extending the analogies with the theories of lattices
and codes which were being pursued. Some comments are also made on the general
concept of the definition of an orbifold of a conformal field theory in
relation to this point of view.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX. Updated references and added preprint n
Heavy and Light Quarks with Lattice Chiral Fermions
The feasibility of using lattice chiral fermions which are free of
errors for both the heavy and light quarks is examined. The fact that the
effective quark propagators in these fermions have the same form as that in the
continuum with the quark mass being only an additive parameter to a chirally
symmetric antihermitian Dirac operator is highlighted. This implies that there
is no distinction between the heavy and light quarks and no mass dependent
tuning of the action or operators as long as the discretization error is negligible. Using the overlap fermion, we find that the
(and ) errors in the dispersion relations of the pseudoscalar and
vector mesons and the renormalization of the axial-vector current and scalar
density are small. This suggests that the applicable range of may be
extended to with only 5% error, which is a factor of
larger than that of the improved Wilson action. We show that the generalized
Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation with unequal masses can be utilized to
determine the finite errors in the renormalization of the matrix elements
for the heavy-light decay constants and semileptonic decay constants of the B/D
meson.Comment: final version to appear in Int. Jou. Mod. Phys.
Quantum Thermalization With Couplings
We study the role of the system-bath coupling for the generalized canonical
thermalization [S. Popescu, et al., Nature Physics 2,754(2006) and S. Goldstein
et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 050403(2006)] that reduces almost all the pure
states of the "universe" [formed by a system S plus its surrounding heat bath
] to a canonical equilibrium state of S. We present an exactly solvable, but
universal model for this kinematic thermalization with an explicit
consideration about the energy shell deformation due to the interaction between
S and B. By calculating the state numbers of the "universe" and its subsystems
S and B in various deformed energy shells, it is found that, for the
overwhelming majority of the "universe" states (they are entangled at least),
the diagonal canonical typicality remains robust with respect to finite
interactions between S and B. Particularly, the kinematic decoherence is
utilized here to account for the vanishing of the off-diagonal elements of the
reduced density matrix of S. It is pointed out that the non-vanishing
off-diagonal elements due to the finiteness of bath and the stronger
system-bath interaction might offer more novelties of the quantum
thermalization.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Looping on the Bloch sphere: Oscillatory effects in dephasing of qubits subject to broad-spectrum noise
For many implementations of quantum computing, 1/f and other types of
broad-spectrum noise are an important source of decoherence. An important step
forward would be the ability to back out the characteristics of this noise from
qubit measurements and to see if it leads to new physical effects. For certain
types of qubits, the working point of the qubit can be varied. Using a new
mathematical method that is suited to treat all working points, we present
theoretical results that show how this degree of freedom can be used to extract
noise parameters and to predict a new effect: noise-induced looping on the
Bloch sphere. We analyze data on superconducting qubits to show that they are
very near the parameter regime where this looping should be observed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Low-momentum interactions with Brown-Rho-Ericson scalings and the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy
We have calculated the nuclear symmetry energy up to
densities of with the effects from the Brown-Rho (BR) and
Ericson scalings for the in-medium mesons included. Using the
low-momentum interaction with and without such scalings, the equations of state
(EOS) of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter have been calculated using a
ring-diagarm formalism where the particle-particle-hole-hole ring diagrams are
included to all orders. The EOS for symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter
obtained with linear BR scaling are both overly stiff compared with the
empirical constraints of Danielewicz {\it et al.} \cite{daniel02}. In contrast,
satisfactory results are obtained by either using the nonlinear Ericson scaling
or by adding a Skyrme-type three-nucleon force (TNF) to the unscaled
interaction.
Our results for obtained with the nonlinear Ericson scaling
are in good agreement with the empirical values of Tsang {\it et al.}
\cite{tsang09} and Li {\it et al.} \cite{li05}, while those with TNF are
slightly below these values. For densities below the nuclear saturation density
, the results of the above calculations are nearly equivalent to each
other and all in satisfactory agreement with the empirical values.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
