An Investigation of Designers' Use and Preference of People Data

There is still missing knowledge to encourage and support designers in adoption and implementation of inclusive design. Some of this missing knowledge comes in the form of anthropometric data which provides accessible information on users' capabilities and limitations. Support and resources for designers on this type of data seems to be limited and exclusive. This study focuses on evaluating the existing use of anthropometric data by professional designers, aiming to explore means of presenting such data more effectively. Ten UK-based design consultancies were interviewed and completed questionnaires collecting information on designer’s current use of anthropometric data, their suggestions on presentation of that data and their preferences on data tools. It is concluded that the use of anthropometric data sources by designers is very limited and minimal; experienced designers tend to rely mainly on experimental methods such as physical prototyping and engagement with people. The results provide insights into designers' existing approaches to data collection and use. This study highlights the need for development of a highly visual, simple and intuitive data tool based on the interviewed designers’ preferences and suggestions. Crossover from Coulomb blockade to quantum Hall effect in suspended graphene nanoribbons
Suspended graphene nano-ribbons formed during current annealing of suspended
graphene flakes have been investigated experimentally. Transport measurements
show the opening of a transport gap around charge neutrality due to the
formation of "Coulomb islands", coexisting with quantum Hall conductance
plateaus appearing at moderate values of magnetic field . Upon increasing
, the transport gap is rapidly suppressed, and is taken over by a much
larger energy gap due to electronic correlations. Our observations show that
suspended nano-ribbons allow the investigation of phenomena that could not so

Algebraic approach to the Hulthen potential
In this paper the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions are
calculated for Hulthen potential. Then we obtain the ladder operators and show

Particle-hole symmetry and interaction effects in the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model
We prove that the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model with purely imaginary
next-nearest-neighbor hoppings has a particle-hole symmetry at half-filling.
Such a symmetry has interesting consequences including the absence of charge
and spin currents along open edges, and the absence of the sign problem in the
determinant quantum Monte-Carlo simulations. Consequentially, the interplay
between band topology and strong correlations can be studied at high numeric
precisions. The process that the topological band insulator evolves into the
antiferromagnetic Mott insulator as increasing interaction strength is studied
by calculating both the bulk and edge electronic properties. In agreement with
previous theory analyses, the numeric simulations show that the
Kane-Mele-Hubbard model exhibits three phases as increasing correlation
effects: the topological band insulating phase with stable helical edges, the
bulk paramagnetic phase with unstable edges, and the bulk antiferromagnetic
phase
