Exploring the role of organizational policies and procedures in promoting research utilization in registered nurses

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Policies and procedures (P&Ps) have been suggested as one possible strategy for moving research evidence into practice among nursing staff in hospitals. Research in the area of P&Ps is limited, however. This paper explores: 1) nurses' use of eight specific research-based practices (RBPs) and RBP overall, 2) nurses' use and understanding of P&Ps, and 3) the role of P&Ps in promoting research utilization.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Staff nurses from the eight health regions governing acute care services across the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador completed an anonymous questionnaire regarding their use of eight RBPs and associated P&Ps. Data were also obtained from authorities in six of the eight regions about existing relevant P&Ps. We used descriptive statistics and multivariate regression analysis to assess the relationship between key independent variables and self-reported use of RBP.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Use of the eight RBPs ranged from 7.8% to 88.6%, depending on the practice. Nurses ranked P&P manuals as their number one source of practice knowledge. Most respondents (84.8%) reported that the main reason they consult the P&P manual is to confirm they are practicing according to agency rules. Multivariate regression analysis identified three significant predictors of being a user versus non-user of RBP overall: awareness, awareness by regular use, and persuasion. Six significant predictors of being a consistent versus less consistent user of RBP overall were also identified: perception of P&P existence, unit, nursing experience, personal experience as a source of practice knowledge, number of existing research-based P&Ps, and lack of time as a barrier to consulting P&P manuals.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Findings suggest that nurses use P&Ps to guide their practice. However, the mere existence of P&Ps is not sufficient to translate research into nursing practice. Individual and organizational factors related to nurses' understanding and use of P&Ps also play key roles. Thus, moving research evidence into practice will require careful interplay between the organization and the individual. P&Ps may be the interface through which this occurs.</p

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie koncepcji społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu i zrównoważonego rozwoju oraz ocena realizacji społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu na rozwój PKN Orlen S.A. Praca zawiera trzy rozdziały. Rozdział pierwszy dotyczy pojęcia zrównoważonego rozwoju w przedsiębiorstwach. Rozdział drugi prezentuje znaczenie społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu we współczesnym zarządzaniu firmą. Trzecia część pracy jest praktycznym ujęciem problematyki przedmiotu popartym badaniami empirycznymi. Do głównych metod badawczych należały analiza literatury przedmiotu, analiza danych wtórnych oraz studium przypadku. Badania ukazują istotę strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju we wszystkich obszarach działalności PKN Orlen oraz wskazują niekwestionowaną rolę koncepcji społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu w procesie zrównoważonego rozwoju. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań dowiedziono, że realizacja społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu wpływa pozytywnie na rozwój PKN Orlen w perspektywie długofalowej i przynosi przewagę konkurencyjną, a także przyczynia się do umacniania wartości przedsiębiorstwa. Co więcej, koncepcja społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu pomaga wyznaczyć kierunek strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju oraz wskazuje na potencjalne wyzwania w branży.The main aim of this thesis is to present the concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development, as well as to evaluate the impact of implementing CSR on the development of PKN Orlen S.A. The thesis contains three chapters. The first chapter concerns the concept of sustainable development in enterprises. The second chapter presents the importance of corporate social responsibility in contemporary enterprise management. The third part of the thesis is a practical outline of the subject matter supported by empirical research. The major research methods were desk research, comprising literature review and secondary data analysis, as well as the case study method. The research presents the sustainable development as a priority in every area of operations of PKN Orlen and indicates an undisputable role of CSR in the process of sustainable development. The research proves that the implementation of CSR policy positively affects the long-term development of PKN Orlen, and brings competitiveness, as well as the increase in the value of the company. Furthermore, CSR concepts determine the sustainable development strategy of PKN Orlen and indicate future challenges in the industry

Rozważania otwiera temat zatraty, kolejne rozdziały skoncentrowane są wokół zagadnień świadomości i pragnień świata Natury, kwestii człowieka pierwotnego, postaci kalekich oraz rytmu. Zakończenie pracy stanowi synteza wniosków w oparciu o wybrane fragmenty tytułowego poematu.Thesis deals with the issue of intellectual and intuitive cognition, a part of the nature theme in the miscellany "The Meadow" by Bolesław Leśmian. Pertain to the group of selected poems, author proposes the interpretation determined by the emotional dominant, beginning with the tragical consequences of cognition - and ending up with the affirmation of the seeker's fate. Speculations are opened by the theme of disintegration, followed by the chapters focused on the issues of Nature's consciousness and desires, primal human being, handicapped characters and rhythm. Above-mentioned are summarized with the synthesis of deductions supported by the interpretation of the title poem's selected fragments

Celem pracy jest przeprowadzenie analizy rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa na przykładzie PKN Orlen S.A. Całość pracy składa się z trzech części. Rozdział pierwszy przedstawia teoretyczne podstawy rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa. Rozdział drugi opisuje rolę i znaczenie strategii w rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa. Rozdział trzeci ukazuje problematykę przedmiotu w oparciu o badania własne. Praca powstała w oparciu o przegląd literatury naukowej z zakresu zarządzania strategicznego. Oparto się także na źródłach internetowych, dokumentacji oraz stronie internetowej firmy, które pozwoliły dokonać analizy strategicznej podmiotu.The main point of this thesis is to analyse the enterprise development strategy based on PKN Orlen S.A.The work consists of three parts. The first chapter represents theoretical bases of enterprise development. The second chapter describes the role and importance of strategy in the process of enterprise development. SHIP-microbiome interactions in intestinal inflammation

Inflammatory bowel disease, encompassing both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, is characterized by chronic, relapsing-remitting gastrointestinal inflammation of unknown etiology. SHIP deficient mice develop fully penetrant, spontaneous ileitis at 6 weeks of age, and thus offer a tractable model of Crohn’s disease-like inflammation. Since disruptions to the microbiome are implicated in the pathogenesis of Crohn’s disease, we conducted a 16S rRNA gene survey of the ileum, cecum, colon, and stool contents of SHIP+/+ and SHIP-/- mice. We predicted that diversity and compositional changes would occur after, and possibly prior to, the onset of overt disease. No differences were found in alpha diversity, but significant changes in beta diversity, specific commensal populations, and the inferred metagenome were observed in the ileal compartment of SHIP deficient mice after the onset of overt disease. Specifically, reductions in the Bacteroidales taxa, Muribaculum intestinale, and an expansion in Lactobacillus were most notable. In contrast, expansions to bacterial taxa previously associated with inflammation, including Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, and Prevotella were observed in the ilea of SHIP deficient mice prior to the onset of overt disease. Thus, our findings indicate that SHIP is involved in maintaining ileal microbial homeostasis. „Krakow Ring” – a gate to the world

Tematem przedstawionego artykułu jest budowa Północnej Obwodnicy Krakowa (POK) stanowiącej, wraz z krótkim fragmentem drogi ekspresowej S7, dopełnienie „Krakowskiego Ringu”. Realizacja S52 POK spełni trwające od ponad 40 lat oczekiwania mieszkańców północnej części Krakowa i ościennych gmin usprawniając ruch samochodowy w tym rejonie. Powstanie droga o wysokich parametrach technicznych pozwalając na płynne i bezpieczne przemieszczanie się z północy na południe, z zachodu na wschód i odwrotnie. W artykule przedstawiono długi proces dojścia do uzyskania Decyzji o Środowiskowych Uwarunkowaniach dla obwodnicy Krakowa i opracowania koncepcji programowej, która stanowiła podstawę do ogłoszenia przetargu na realizację inwestycji w systemie „Projektuj i buduj”. Przedstawiono również rozwiązania projektowe w nawiązaniu do obiektów zabytkowych pojawiających się na trasie drogi oraz sposób ich zachowania. Poruszono problem budowy zbiorników retencyjnych w dolinach cieków wokół Krakowa mających zabezpieczyć krakowskie osiedla przed napływem wód powodziowych w aspekcie kolizji obwodnicy z planowanym zbiornikiem „Węgrzce 80”. W skrócie opisano rozwiązania z zakresu węzłów drogowych, przejść tunelowych, obiektów inżynierskich, dróg poprzecznych i dojazdowych oraz obiektów ochrony środowiska, a także wyzwania, z jakimi musieli zmierzyć się projektanci. Proponowane rozwiązania pokazano na przykładowych rysunkach załączonych w treści artykułu. Przedstawiono również zakres wielu systemów przewidzianych do realizacji w planowanej obwodnicy wraz z miejscem, z którego będzie zarządzana droga.The subject of the article is the construction of Northern Bypass of Krakow which together with short segment of S7 express road complement “Krakow City Ring Road”. The implementation of S52 POK will meet the expectations of residents of northern part of Krakow and neighboring municipalities that have been going on for over 40 years and will improve vehicular traffic in this area. The road with high technical parameters will be created allowing for smooth and safe movement from north to south, from west to east and vice versa. The article presents a long process of reaching the “Decision on Environmental Conditions for Krakow Bypass” and the development of the detail concept design, which was the basis for announcing the tender for the implementation of investments in the design and build system. Design solutions have been presented in reference to historical objects appearing on the route of the road and the manner of their preservation. The problem of the construction of retention reservoirs in the valleys of the watercourses around Krakow was discussed to protect the Krakow settlements against the inflow of flood waters in the aspect of the bypass collision with planned reservoir “Węgrzce 80”. Article briefly describes solutions in terms of road junctions, road tunnels, engineering structures, side and service roads, also environmental protection facilities and problems faced by designers.. Proposed solutions are shown in the example drawings attached to the article. The scope of many systems planned for implementation in the bypass along with the place from which the road will be managed is also presented
