    The university libraries have long been recognized as the hearts of their universities. To fulfil their mission of supporting the educational objectives of their parent bodies, but in doing these, differences exists in jobs rendered among the various categories of staff and this necessitates the need to conduct this study. The main objectives of this paper were to: identify the different job placements in the Library, have an in depth understanding of the roles performed by each category of librarians, and also Inquire about sharing of responsibilities among the library staff. This study is a descriptive research, and as such adopted a survey design using interview and direct observation method. Therefore structured interview was carried out with various categories of staff based on the research questions, and their (staff) responses form the bulk of findings of this researc

    Appraisal of Library Services in Selected Primary Schools under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Oyo State, Nigeria

    The study surveyed the availability and effective utilization of library resources in selected primary schools under the State Universal Basic Education Board -SUBEB in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State. The project aims at finding out the available learning resources, the services rendered in the libraries, the utilization of library resources, the problems facing the library staff and how to improve library resources and services in the local government. The main instrument for the data collection was the questionnaire. One hundred and twenty (120) questionnaires were administered to pupils and teacher/librarian in the selected schools, one hundred and ten (110) were completed and returned. Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze the collected data. The findings indicated that library facilities and resources were inadequate and little attention was given to the provision of this by the government and the school authorities. Qualified library personnel were lacking which resulted in low quality service. Lack of fund and lack of awareness of library services by the users were also part of the problems facing the libraries, unconcerned attitude of people towards the library is also part of the problems. To solve these, stakeholders in education, especially government and P.T.A. should provide functioning libraries in schools. This should be effectively funded and equipped with facilities, resources and personnel. There should be library user’s education in the schools, it should be included in the school’s time-table and lectures should be given from time to time

    Challenges of Integrated Library System (ILS) Migration in selected Academic Libraries in Oyo State, Nigeria.

    This study was conducted among the academic libraries within Oyo state to share their experience with an integrated library system (ILS) migration project, as a review of an emerging national discuss on ICT and library services for sustainable development in Nigerian Education sector. This study takes a systematic approach to provide a snapshot of the adopted ILS functions and key factors affecting the outcome of the library’s Software migration project. Stratified sampling was used in the administration of questionnaire and the result reveals the challenges and opportunities facing academic libraries in an environment with rapidly changing technology and increasingly sophisticated academic users. Recommendations were made on how to improve the current existing systems based on the findings, these includes; making extensive feasibility study on the migration project, training of staff in key aspects of migration as well as payments of additional incentives to staff as a motivational tool
