Role of SABP2 in Systemic Acquired Resistance Induced by Acibenzolar-S-Methyl in Plants.

Plants have evolved an efficient mechanism to defend themselves against pathogens. Many biotic and abiotic agents have been shown to induce defense mechanism in plants. Acibenzolar-S-Methyl (ASM) is a commercially available chemical inducer of local and systemic resistance (SAR) response in plants. ASM functioning at molecular level is mostly unclear. This research was designed to investigate the mechanism of ASM action in plants. It was hypothesized that SABP2, a plant protein, plays an important role in ASM-mediated defense signaling. Biochemical studies were performed to test the interaction between SABP2 and ASM. Transgenic SABP2-silenced tobacco plants were used to determine the role of SABP2 in SAR induced by ASM. The expression of PR-1 proteins was used as a marker for SAR induction. Results showed that SABP2 converts ASM into acibenzolar that induces the expression of PR-1 proteins and develops the SAR response in ASM-treated plants

A comparative study of collagen-based dressing versus conventional dressing in chronic ulcers

Background: Collagen is a fibrous structure, proline-rich protein, comprised of three α-chains, plays an important role in each stage of wound healing, attracts fibroblasts and keratinocytes which in turn encourages debridement, angiogenesis and re-epithelializationMethods: This is a prospective cohort study. After obtaining ethical clearance from Institute’s ethical committee, all the patients fulfilling inclusion criteria were enrolled and written consent was obtained from all the patients. Detailed history was enquired and recorded on a predesigned proforma. The ulcer healing, analysed as- Time required for appearance of healthy granulation tissue, 50% reduction in ulcer size, complete healing time, requirement of skin grafting, time required in return to daily activities. Results: A significant decrease in time required for 50 % reduction in wound size with a mean difference of 18.5 in collagen group patients when compared to 37.5 and 33.0 in Normal saline group patients and Povidone iodine group patients. Chi square test was applied to assess the difference in proportions between groups t test was applied to compare the mean between the groups. P<0.05 was considered as statically significant. Conclusions: Healing with collagen particles is early, compared to the conventional dressings with lesser requirement of skin grafting, number of dressings, shorter hospital stay. Dressing changed every 3-4 days. Healing occurs by formation of early granulation tissue and wound contraction

Extraction of essential oil and its applications

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances extracted from flowers, leaves, stems, roots, seeds, barks, resins, or fruit rinds. These oils are often used for their flavor and their therapeutic or odoriferous properties, in a wide selection of products such as foods, medicines, and cosmetics. Extraction of essential oils is one of the most time- and effortconsuming processes. The way in which oils are extracted from plants is important because some processes use solvents that can destroy the therapeutic properties. There are wide number of ways to extract the Essential oil but the quality never remains the same. Here we are using the “Steam Distillation” method for extraction which is the cheapest way for the extraction of Oils from the different parts of the plants. In this process steam is allowed to pass through the extraction chamber which contains plant matter. When steam passes through the herb material under pressure which softens the cells and allows the essential oil to escape in vapor form. The vapour allows to pass through condenser and oil is collected in separating funnel and separated. Composition data for Eucalyptus oil were studied and found the Eucalyptus oil can be used as cosolvent which results in depression of cloud point temperature
