Background: This study was conducted to evaluate the role of FVC (frequency volume chart) in the male patient with urinary incontinence. That will definitely help to evaluate patient’s objective lower urinary tract symptoms including incontinence and guide to manage those symptoms. But there are less number of reported studies showing role of FVC in men with urinary incontinence. Methods: Male patient (19-60 years) presenting with incontinence symptoms from 1st February 2018 to 30th July 2018, were enrolled in the study. They were asked to record the time and volume of each oral fluid intake, voided volume for 3 consecutive days and put tick in the column of incontinence in the FVC if present. Results: Total 205 male patients presented with incontinence symptoms were evaluated, they were divided into 3 age groups (19-32, 33-46 and 47-60 years). Mean incontinence were found 2.65 (19-32 years). 2.99 (33-46 years) and 3.13 (47-60 years). In 47-60 years group total oral fluid intake is positively correlated with frequency (p 0.05) and frequency with incontinence (p >0.05) were not statistically significant in any age groups. Conclusions: The FVC is the registration of voiding parameters by patient in his own environment. Assessment of lower urinary tract symptoms based on a history alone is not accurate, value of FVC are found to be consistent and accurate, so it will guide us to initiate management in male with urinary incontinence and also help to assess treatment responsiveness

This study evaluated the anthelmintic activity of the petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, ethanol extracts of aerial parts of Hygrophila difformis (Family: Acanthaceae).  The Pheretima posthuma were used for all the experimental protocol due to their anatomical and physiological resemblance with the intestinal roundworms of human beings and other ruminants. The worms were treated with the extract solutions containing three different concentrations (10, 25 and 30 mg/ml), for each extracts supplemented with 1% gum acacia in normal saline at 37 ± 1°C. Albendazole at a dose of 10 mg/ml was used as reference. The effectiveness of the extracts was judged on the basis of the loss of spontaneous movement and/or death of the worms. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of different extracts of the plant was carried out following the standard procedure. All extracts at different dose levels effectively paralyzed and killed the worm in dose-dependent fashion (***p < 0.001). Maximum anthelmintic activity was found with benzene extract. Cardiac glycosides, tannins, steroids, flavonoids and saponins were found positive in phytochemical analysis. The present study established the anthelmintic activity of H. difformis and can be utilized for the ruminants

Assessment of Groundwater Potential Zone in Paschim Medinipur District, West Bengal – A Meso-scale study using GIS and Remote Sensing Approach

The investigation of groundwater in hard rock terrains is a complex task. To overcome this complexity, the integrated approach based on advanced applications of remote sensing and GIS lends itself to evaluate groundwater prospective zone based on multi-criteria evaluation approach (e.g. seasonal land use/land cover and vegetation, hydro-geology, geomorphology, soil, drainage density, monsoon and post monsoon water level and elevation). A probability weightage index overlay method was adopted that allows a linear combination of probability weights of each thematic map with the individual impact value using Bayesian statistics. These capability values are then multiplied with the respective probability weight of each thematic map. The result shows groundwater potentiality of Paschim Medinipur is stretched along the eastern part and in small pockets in northern and southern part. The hydrologic parameters-based groundwater potential zone map also indicated, 8.08% of the study area was classified as having very high potential, 11.99% high potential and 17.72% moderate potential. The groundwater abstractions structures feasible in each of the various potential zones have also been suggested. This study also provides a methodological approach for an evaluation of the water resources in hard rock terrain and enables an opening of the scope for further development and management practices. Background: The objective is to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MBS) and the effects of insulin sensitizers to improve the clinical and hormonal milieu for better reproductive outcome in PCOS women. Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 PCOS women and 50 age matched control to determine the prevalence of the MBS in two tertiary hospitals over one year. Diagnosis of PCOS was based on at least two of ESHRE/ASRM criteria and diagnosis of MBS was based on at least three of NCEPATPIII criteria. Patients already diagnosed as PCOS were treated with insulin sensitizers myoionositol and metformin which were compared. Results: The study revealed that the prevalence of MBS was 40 % (20/50) nearly 4-fold higher than that of control groups. Among PCOS women, the most prevalent MBS factors were high BMI (52%) and low serum HDL-C (42%). The least prevalent factor was high fasting serum glucose level (16%). The resumption of spontaneous regular menstrual cycle and pregnancy rate in infertile groups of PCOS patients with myoionositol and metformin were 61% vs. 26% and 50% vs.91% respectively. The myoionositol group did not require any extra ovulating agents for pregnancy, while 7 out of 11 patients in metfromin group needed clomiphen citrate for ovulation induction to achieve pregnancy.  With myoinositol there is significant reduction of weight, BMI, LH/FSH ratio and fasting insulin level; whereas metformin shows decrement of weight and BMI only. Conclusions: The prevalence of MBS in PCOS is nearly 4 times in present study and there is significant improvement of symptom profile, weight, BMI and change of hormonal pattern in myoinositol group

EPR and magnetic studies on single crystals of the dimeric copper (II) compound y: his (N-methyl salicylaldimine) Cu(II) down to 1.5 K reveal that each Cu(II) dimer is ferromagnetically exchange coupled having negligible interdimer exchange interaction. The magnetic properties are best described with C4v ligand field symmetry around each Cu(II) ion. The principal axes of the susceptibility and the g-tensor are not strictly coincident at low temperature.

280-285Hydroxamic acids are directly related with cancer and its progression. Long term exposure with inflammatory responses, dysplasia develops which leads to cancer. Metastasis of cancer and expression of transient potential receptor ankyrin-1 are known to cause severe pain. Here, we explored the possibility of developing newer hydroxamic acid derivatives as anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent. Animals were administered with 100 mg/kg dose of the synthesized imidazolyl triazolo hydroxamic acid derivatives (FP1-FP12) and 50 mg/kg dose of standard diclofenac sodium. Carrageenan induced rat paw edema and Eddy’s hot plate methods were considered for anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Among all the synthesized molecules, FP10 and FP4 were the most effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent, respectively. The activity profile of remaining molecules as anti-inflammatory agents was as follows: FP4>FP9> FP8> FP2 and as analgesic activity profile was FP10>FP3>FP8 >FP11 >FP2 > FP12. Presence of ethyl- benzyl and furan groups in linker portion of the structure minimized both the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Results have shown that compounds with electron releasing groups considerably enhance both anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities

Primary transitional cell carcinoma of bulbar urethra

    Get PDF
Primary urethral carcinoma (UC) is a rare entity, and bulbar UCs of transitional cell origin are even rarer. Primary presentation as a scrotal abscess and urethrocutaneous fistula is rarely documented in UC patients. We present a case of a 66-year-old male presenting to emergency department with a scrotal abscess. Following blind incision and drainage, the urethral injury was suspected, and biopsy of suspicious lesion was taken from scrotum which came out to be invasive transitional cell carcinoma. A wide local excision of the tumor was done after workup. Hence, all patients with scrotal abscess and urethrocutaneous fistula should be investigated before performing any blind procedure
