Operational research for the introduction of an adolescent health package in the context of cervical cancer prevention

This report provides findings from a WHO/PAHO/UNFPA meeting that took place in Mexico City in 2009. Participants discussed a proposed operational research study on adolescent health and cervical cancer prevention that would help support countries that have already made or will soon make a policy decision to introduce the HPV vaccine. Adolescents typically have little contact with health services, particularly for immunization programs. Since new HPV vaccines target adolescent girls, the introduction of HPV vaccines may provide an opportunity for adolescents to engage more with health services and this may create openings to offer packages of adolescent health services that include information, sexual and reproductive health education, and adolescent health interventions. A study is proposed to better understand the policy and programmatic issues related to delivering HPV vaccines as part of comprehensive adolescent health services and for cervical cancer prevention. As there are several countries in the Americas initiating or considering the introduction of the HPV vaccine, the timing for such a study is appropriate

The demand for corporate financial reporting: A survey among financial analysts

Abstract: We examine financial analysts’ views on corporate financial reporting issues by means of a survey among 306 analysts and interviews among 21 analysts and compare their views with that of CFOs. Since CFOs believe that meeting or beating analysts’ forecasts and managing earnings to achieve this benchmark can enhance firm value, examining analysts’ perspectives on these actions improves our understanding on whether CFOs’ beliefs are rational or heuristic. Our findings suggest that CFOs’ beliefs tend to be rational regarding their focus on earnings and their views on earnings management and smoothing. The main reason is that analysts have difficulty in unraveling certain types of earnings management in a specific firm even though they anticipate earnings management in general. Yet, CFOs are heuristic in their optimism about the consequences of managing earnings, which potentially has negative implications for the value of their firm

Psychometrische kenmerken van een Nederlandse Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-Circumplex (IIP-C)

Interpersoonlijke problemen zijn de kern van persoonlijkheidsproblematiek. Een patroon van duurzame problemen in het interpersoonlijk functioneren is dan ook een hoofdkenmerk van persoonlijkheidsstoornissen in de dsm-5. Interpersoonlijke problemen kunnen worden geïnventariseerd met de iip-c, een instrument dat wereldwijd veel gebruikt wordt, maar in Nederland onvoldoende voet aan de grond heeft gekregen. Met dit onderzoek beogen we de psychometrische kwaliteit van een Nederlandse vertaling van de iip-c in kaart te brengen. We hebben onderzocht of de scores van 522 patiënten op de iip-c theoretisch voldoen aan een zogenaamde circumplexstructuur. Onze resultaten bevestigen dat er een circumplexstructuur bestaat bij de Nederlandse versie van de iip-c. De acht octanten blijken voor het merendeel voldoende tot goed betrouwbaar. Dit geeft aan dat de iip-c geschikt is om interpersoonlijke problemen op individueel niveau te inventariseren en te differentiëren. Onze bevindingen wijzen erop dat de iip-c een waardevolle toevoeging is aan het klinisch-diagnostisch instrumentarium
