    Pancreatogenic type 3C diabetes

    Background. The relationship between chronic pancreatitis and diabetes is well established. This form of diabetes is secondary to exocrine pancreatic disorder and is known as diabetes mellitus type 3c (T3cDM). Materials and Methods. In this retrospective study we included 261 patients, 59 patients being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and secondary diabetes mellitus, and admitted in the Fundeni Clinical Institute, 2nd Department of Gastroenterology or N.C. Paulescu Institute/ Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results and Discussions. Patients were 22.2% women and 77.8% men, with an average age of 56.8 years and 53.4 years respectively. 63% came from urban areas. The mean duration of chronic pancreatitis was six years. Non-diabetic patients were compared with patients who were previously diagnosed with T3cDM and who had been analyzed for body mass index (BMI). Imaging investigations were also performed to confirm pseudotumors or pancreatic tumours. Patients already considered non-diabetic had basal blood glucose values and were mostly overweight and obese. In this context, insulin resistance cannot be excluded for this group of patients. Conclusions. T3cDM is a new pathological entity that needs to be explored more deeply, and that should benefit from both a diagnostic stratification and treatment

    EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY AND AVAILABILITY FOR IRRIGATION OF WATER FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES FROM SOUTHERN OLTENIA

    The researches were carried out under the conditions of 2019 and aimed at assessing the quality and availability for irrigation of groundwater and surface water from different sources located on the territory of Dabuleni Research Development Station for Plant Culture on Sands (Dabuleni RDSPCS). The results regarding the quality of the water showed different values according to the source and climatic conditions. The average values regarding the fixed mineral residue, pH, nitrate content and ammonium ions, determined in 9 working points, show that the analyzed sources cannot be used as drinking water, but can be used for irrigation of agricultural crops. The obtained results showed the following water quality indicators: mineral residue = 475 -1350 mg / dm3; pH = 7.05 - 8.43; nitrates = 10.23 - 28.08 mg / dm3, ammonium (NH4 +) = 1.73 - 8.82 mg/dm3

    Prognostic impact of Lymph node resection in stage II colon cancer: a prospective study from a tertiary hospital center

    Background. The treatment of stage II colon cancer has been a subject of debate for a long time. In the last years, a few risk factors have been proposed in order to guide any treatment decision more accurately. One of these risk factors is the number of resected lymph nodes, and according to the latest guidelines, it is recommended that at least 12 lymph nodes should be resected for optimal staging. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of lymph node resection, in stage II colon cancer and the implication of suboptimal lymph node resection on disease free survival and overall survival. Patients and methods. This was a prospective study that included 130 patients with stage II colon cancer who were monitored between October 2014 and October 2016. The relation between patients’ tumour characteristics that include number of lymph node resection and the use of adjuvant chemotherapy using Chi test and multiple logistic regression was analyzed. The disease-free survival and overall survival were estimated with the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test. Results. 130 patients with stage II colon cancer were recruited. 56 patients were treated with surgery alone and 74 patients received flourouracil- based chemotherapy after surgery. Patients' age varied from 37 years to 81 years. According to the number of resected lymph nodes, patients were divided into two groups - with less than 12 lymph nodes resected and at least 12 lymph nodes resected. The number of resected lymph nodes varied from 2 to 32 lymph nodes. Median follow up was 36 months. Suboptimal resections of lymph nodes confirmed to be a negative prognostic factor for survival without disease recurrence. Conclusion.     Innovative Biosensing Approaches for Swift Identification of Candida Species, Intrusive Pathogenic Organisms

    Candida is the largest genus of medically significant fungi. Although most of its members are commensals, residing harmlessly in human bodies, some are opportunistic and dangerously invasive. These have the ability to cause severe nosocomial candidiasis and candidemia that affect the viscera and bloodstream. A prompt diagnosis will lead to a successful treatment modality. The smart solution of biosensing technologies for rapid and precise detection of Candida species has made remarkable progress. The development of point-of-care (POC) biosensor devices involves sensor precision down to pico-/femtogram level, cost-effectiveness, portability, rapidity, and user-friendliness. However, futuristic diagnostics will depend on exploiting technologies such as multiplexing for high-throughput screening, CRISPR, artificial intelligence (AI), neural networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing of medical databases. This review gives an insight into different biosensor technologies designed for the detection of medically significant Candida species, especially Candida albicans and C. auris, and their applications in the medical setting

    When a diver is selected to perform a deep diving course, he has to pass a medical test and isn’t affected by the HPNS (High Pressure Nervous Syndrome). When a diver is selected to perform a deep diving course, he has to pass an evaluation stage in order to prove his ability to tolerate the compression speed accompanied by the helium - oxygen breathing mixture without encountering the HPNS effects. The deep diving test consists in postural tremor and the EEG registration, in both conditions: at the atmospheric pressure and at 180 m deep too. Then the results obtained at the surface percentage limits are fixed for the maximum deflection agreed between the values registration made under pressure and the atmospheric pressure (surface) values
