Theoretical and Experimental Study of Copper Electrodeposition in a Modified Hull Cell

    Get PDF
The primary current distribution and the resistance of a modified Hull cell are calculated by using conformal mapping technique coupled with numerical evaluation of the resulting integral equations. An approximate analytical expression for the primary current distribution of a modified Hull cell is presented. The primary current distribution along the cathode surface is noticed varying in controlled manner as a function of position on the substrate. The current distributions (primary, secondary, and tertiary) in the cell have also been calculated at different applied average current densities (2, 4.1, and 8.2 mA cm−2) through numerical simulation by using finite element based software. The numerical simulation result of the primary current distribution is then compared with the analytical solution and a good match is found. Experimentally, single Cu metal electrodeposition is carried out at different applied average current densities (2, 4.1, and 8.2 mA cm−2) in a modified Hull. The current distribution (primary, secondary, and tertiary) results obtained from the numerical simulation are compared with the experimental results and a satisfactory match is found. Surface morphology of the Cu deposits is examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM)

Possible fluid interpretation and tidal force equation on a generic null hypersurface in Einstein-Cartan theory

The dynamical evolution of the Hajicek 11-form is derived in Einstein-Cartan (EC) theory. We find that like Einstein theory of gravity, the evolution equation is related to a projected part of the Einstein tensor (G^ab)(\hat{G}_{ab}) on a generic null surface H\mathcal{H}, particularly G^ablaq cb\hat{G}_{ab}l^a q^b_{~c}, where lal^a and q caq^a_{~c} are the outgoing null generators of H\mathcal{H} and the induced metric to a transverse spatial cross-section of H\mathcal{H} respectively. Under the {\it geodesic constraint} a possible fluid interpretation of this evolution equation is then proposed. We find that it has the structure which is reminiscent to the {\it Cosserat generalization} of the Navier-Stokes fluid provided we express the dynamical evolution equation of the Hajicek 11-form in a set of coordinates adapted to H\mathcal{H} and in a local inertial frame. An analogous viewpoint can also be built under the motive that the usual material derivative for fluids should be replaced by the Lie derivative. Finally, the tidal force equation in EC theory on the null surface is also derived.Comment: Published in Phys. Rev.

Transcription elongation factor NusA is a general antagonist of Rho-dependent termination in Escherichia coli

NusA is an essential protein that binds to RNA polymerase and also to the nascent RNA and influences transcription by inducing pausing and facilitating the process of transcription termination/antitermination. Its participation in Rho-dependent transcription termination has been perceived, but the molecular nature of this involvement is not known. We hypothesized that, because both Rho and NusA are RNA-binding proteins and have the potential to target the same RNA, the latter is likely to influence the global pattern of the Rho-dependent termination. Analyses of the nascent RNA binding properties and consequent effects on the Rho-dependent termination functions of specific NusA-RNA binding domain mutants revealed an existence of Rho-NusA direct competition for the overlapping nut (NusA-binding site) and rut (Rho-binding site) sites on the RNA. This leads to delayed entry of Rho at the rut site that inhibits the latter's RNA release process. High density tiling microarray profiles of these NusA mutants revealed that a significant number of genes, together with transcripts from intergenic regions, are up-regulated. Interestingly, the majority of these genes were also up-regulated when the Rho function was compromised. These results provide strong evidence for the existence of NusA-binding sites in different operons that are also the targets of Rho-dependent terminations. Our data strongly argue in favor of a direct competition between NusA and Rho for the access of specific sites on the nascent transcripts in different parts of the genome. We propose that this competition enables NusA to function as a global antagonist of the Rho function, which is unlike its role as a facilitator of hairpin-dependent termination

Collapse and Revival Oscillation in Double Jaynes-Cummings Model

We develop a systematic method of solving two non-interacting Jaynes-Cummings models by using the dressed state formalism in Hilbert space HAB(22)\mathcal{H}_{AB}^{(2\otimes2)}. It is shown that such model, called Double Jaynes-Cummings model (D-JCM), can be exactly solved if we take the initial bare state as the linear superposition of two Bell states. The collapse and revival oscillation, which is the standard trait of typical Jaynes-Cummings model, can be recovered if we make measurement at each local sites. Some consequence of the entanglement-induced dressing is discussed.Comment: 4 figures, 12 page
