Double-core evolution and the formation of neutron-star binaries with compact companions

We present the results of a systematic exploration of an alternative evolutionary scenario to form double neutron-star binaries, first proposed by Brown (1995), which does not involve a neutron star passing through a common envelope. In this scenario, the initial binary components have very similar masses, and both components have left the main sequence before they evolve into contact; preferably the primary has already developed a CO core. We have performed population synthesis simulations to study the formation of double neutron star binaries via this channel and to predict the orbital properties and system velocities of such systems. We obtain a merger rate for DNSs in this channel in the range of 0.1 - 12/Myr. These rates are still subject to substantial uncertainties such as the modelling of the contact phase.Comment: MNRAS, accepte

The problems in this study are: (1) Does motivation affect service quality in the Revenue Agency of Lampung Province, (2) Does the work environment affect the service quality of the Lampung Province Regional Revenue Agency, (3) Does motivation and work environment and motivation motivate on Service Quality at the Lampung Province Regional Revenue Agency. The research method used in this study is quantitative. The study population was 93 employees at the Lampung Province Regional Revenue Agency. While the sample is 93 people or a total sample. The research variables are Motivation (X1), and work environment (X2) as independent variables and Service Quality is the dependent variable (Y). To test the hypothesis proposed, analysis techniques are used through Multiple Regression to determine the effect of the independent variable (X1), namely Motivation and (X2) work environment and the dependent variable (Y), namely the quality of service at the Lampung Province Regional Revenue Agency. The results showed that from the adjusted R2 coefficient value of 0.674 which showed that 67.4% of the variation in service quality (YŶ) was determined jointly by motivation (X1) and work environment (X2). The remaining 33.6% is influenced by other causes not included in this research model and still requires further research. R value of 0.821 indicates a strong positive correlation between motivation (X1) and work environment (X2) with service quality (Y). Positive correlation means that ups and downs of service quality always go in the direction of the level of motivation and work environment. If motivation and work environment are at the maximum level, the quality of service will be good too. Conversely, if the motivation and work environment is not good then the quality of service will be bad too. Furthermore, strong correlation means that the results of the above regression tests are very suitable for predicting the simultaneous effect of motivation and work environment on service quality at the Lampung Province Regional Revenue Agency

The Effect of Squid Extract (Loligo SP) on TNF-α and TGF-β1 Serum Levels During Wound Healing in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease characterised by elevated levels of blood glucose known as hyperglycaemia. Diabetes is due to impaired insulin action in the metabolism of glucose and can result in impaired wound healing. Excessive production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, an increased number of macrophages and neutrophils, and decreased levels of transforming growth factor - beta 1 (TGF-β1) serum can be characteristic of impaired wound healing. This study aims to determine the effects of squid extract on certain wound parameters such as levels of tumour necrosis factor - alpha (TNF-α), and TGF-β1 serum and the number of macrophages and neutrophils. Methods: This was a post-test only, randomized controlled group study that was conducted on male Wistar rats. Experimental animals were divided into 6 groups; (1) normal wound with standard diet, (2) diabetic wound with standard diet, (3) diabetic wound with chitosan supplement, (4) diabetic wound given squid extract orally once a day, (5) diabetic wound given squid extract orally twice a day, and (6) diabetic wound given squid extract orally once every two days. Levels of TNF-α and TGF-β1 serum were observed using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay. Haematocylin and eosin staining was used to observed macrophage and neutrophil counts. All data was analysed statistically by one-way analysis of variance. Results: TNF-α serum levels showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in subjects that received squid extract orally once every two days. The mean levels of TGF-β1 showed no significant differences. The mean number of macrophage cells showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in all treatment groups. The mean number of neutrophil cells also showed significant decrease (p < 0.05) in all treatment groups. Conclusions: Squid extract is effective in lowering the TNF-α serum levels and the number of macrophages and neutrophils cells in Wistar rats. However, there were insignificant findings on increasing levels of TGF-β1 serum. This data suggests that squid extract is most effective during the inflammatory phase of wound healing which takes places about 2-4 days after wound creation

The formation of the double neutron star pulsar J0737--3039

We find that the orbital period (2.4 hours), eccentricity (0.09), dipole magnetic field strength (6.9 x 10^9 Gauss) and spin period (22 ms) of the new highly relativistic double neutron star system PSR J0737-3039 can all be consistently explained if this system originated from a close helium star plus neutron star binary (HeS-NS) in which at the onset of the evolution the helium star had a mass in the range 4.0 to 6.5 M_sun and an orbital period in the range 0.1 to 0.2 days. Such systems are the post-Common-Envelope remnants of wide Be/X-ray binaries (orbital period ~ 100 to 1000 days) which consist of a normal hydrogen-rich star with a mass in the range 10 - 20 M_sun and a neutron star. The close HeS-NS progenitor system went through a phase of mass transfer by Roche-lobe overflow at a high rate lasting a few times 10^4 years; assuming Eddington-limited disk accretion onto the neutron star this star was spun up to its present rapid spin rate. At the moment of the second supernova explosion the He star had a mass in the range 2.3 to 3.3 M_sun and in order to obtain the present orbital parameters of PSR J0737-3039 a kick velocity in the range 70 - 230 km/s must have been imparted to the second neutron star at its birth.Comment: accepted by MNRA

Introduction: Preeclampsia and eclampsia were emergencies, which greatly contribute to maternal mortality. The definitive management for preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum was pregnancy termination, which can be done by the caesarean section method.Purpose: To analyze the correlation between preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum and the caesarean section method at Prof. Dr. H. Aloei Saboe in September to January 2020.Method: Observational study with cross-sectional approaches. The sample used was mothers who gave birth at Prof. Dr. H Aloei Saboe during the period January-September 2020, which fulfilled the criteria of inclusion and exclusion with a total of 66 samples. Data were taken from medical records and analyzed by using the test Chi-square, with a significance value of 10% (α = 0.10).Results: Hypothesis testing used chi-square method with a level of significance 10% (α = 0.10), obtaining the p-value (0.82) ( p> 0.10).Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between preeclampsia-eclampsia gravidarum and the delivery of the Caesarean section method at Prof. Dr. H. Aloei Saboe January-September 2020 perio

Functional activities is a potential ability performed by an individual to perform normal activities and duties as expected. Evaluation of the functional activity of workers is important to be done to improve the labor productivity. The purpose of this study was to determine the functional activity of the workers. The research was conducted using cross sectional approach with 166 samples. The research was conducted in February-March 2012 in melinjo home industry at Plumbon village. Functional activity was assessed by using the instrument of Back Pain Function Scale (BPFS) which has been translated into Indonesian language. Research results showed an average score of functional activity in melinjo chips workers was 54.46. Suggestion from this study for community nurses especially occupational nurse is making efforts to increase the functional activity score of melinjo chips worker
