Comparison of the π\pi and Δ\Delta operator approximations for the two-dimensional t-J model

We compare the spectra of the new π\pi operator of the SO(5) theory and the conventional Δ\Delta operator for the two-dimensional t-J model. We also calculate the weight transferred to the two-hole ground state from half-filling by these operators. We find that the spectra of these operators are quite similar and the weight for the π\pi operator is smaller than the weight for the Δ\Delta operator. We argue that the two-dimensional t-J model does not have a good approximate SO(5) symmetry claimed in Ref. 1.Comment: 9 latex pages, 3 figure

Cost Analysis of Potential North Dakota Subterminal Systems

The purpose of this study was to analyze the cost structures associated with subterminal facilities. An economic-engineering approach was used to determine the construction and operation costs of four different sizes of subterminal facilities operating at three different plant capacities. Profitability of subterminals was determined mainly by the volume of grain handled. If a subterminal marketed enough grain, it was able to incur both decreasing average fixed and average variable costs. The larger subterminals were found to be more profitable than the smaller facilities indicating the existence of economies of size in both the fixed and variable cost components. Profitability can be dramatically increased given the availability of internal financing for the construction cost and nondepreciable fixed costs. This prefeasibility analysis directed at the HFCS industry was carried out under a short-term turnaround basis with the intent of accomplishing two objectives. First, provide a current economic overview of the United States HFCS industry; secondly, to develop some major HFCS processing plant operating benchmarks in an effort to provide a timely informational base for state economic development interests.Agribusiness,

Winter-Spring Tornadoes and Drought over the Southern Mississippi River Valley

    Get PDF
Recent research has shown tornado activity over portions of the U.S. is impacted by internal ocean-atmospheric forcing. Impacts of seasonal and annual precipitation on tornado activity have also been assessed in previous studies, but no published research has included a full assessment of the soil moisture balance despite the known influences of soil moisture on thunderstorm activity. Therefore, this research explores the influence of soil moisture balance on tornado activity over Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the western portion of Tennessee. Two measures of the soil moisture balance were used, the Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and the Palmer Z-Index. Tornado day counts were computed from tornado path data and transformed into percent of normal values for comparison with the two drought variables and various ocean-atmospheric teleconnections (e.g., El Niño-Southern Oscillation). Results suggest the impact of soil moisture balance on tornado counts over the Southern Mississippi River Valley is mostly during the warmer months from late winter into the spring. Forward and backward stepwise regression modeling identified the Z-Index and the winter (December-January-February) Oceanic Niño Index as the most important variables influencing tornado day variability over the Southern Mississippi River Valley during the spring season (March-April-May)

This interview is one of a series conducted concerning West Virginia communities, focusing on Ceredo. At the time of the interview, Delmer Robinson was the food editor of the Charleston Gazette. He discusses: his job; restaurants in West Virginia (such as Rocco\u27s, Gatsby\u27s, Permon\u27s, Rebels & Redcoats, the Greenbrier, and Rax Roast Beef); ethnic food; alcohol in restaurants; as well as restaurants and economics.https://mds.marshall.edu/oral_history/1298/thumbnail.jp
