Alpi e Architettura. Patrimonio, progetto, sviluppo locale

    Get PDF

NEUROSCIENCE AND PRESERVATION. HOW DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN CHANGING THE EXPERIENCE (AND THE WAY WE TAKE CARE) OF HERITAGE

    Get PDF
Life is increasingly being conditioned by the widespread digital technology and by Internet. They have also entered the field of historic heritage and conservation for a long time, with academic researches, high-skill job opportunities in the field of 3D survey and modelling, dissemination and services to the public. To what stage is the relationship between digital technology and historic heritage? These lines offer some hints, starting from recent outcomes in the field of neuroscience investigating as the Internet and digital technologies has been changing some of the core functions of our mind, such as the ability to pay attention and remember. Can historic heritage play a role in this process? What consequences to the conservation field

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
The digital tools are usually more efficient, as much as a solid sorting logic is consolidated behind them. This logic is often formed through a long practice with similar non-digital tools. This paper presents a comparative discussion between BIM and Raumbuch, as tools for survey, study and design for heritage buildings. A early history of Raumbuch is summarized and some of the foundamentals of such technical tools are discussed. The Raumbuch is a tool for analysing and sorting huge amounts of information about a building. It originated in late XIX century, within a field of application between architecture and archaeology. The Raumbuch has more recently been spread as a tool for organizing a building survey or design. Heritage buildings have represented a specific field of application. Many experiences have concurred to consolidate and refine this methodology, particularly in the German speaking area. Some controversial outputs may also emerge when Raumbich has being developed basing on a building information modeling. A cross-fertilization process has to be encouraged to overcome language differences and some cultural laziness. Research will achieve positive results

Towards a Reasoned Glossary of Green Conservation: A Semantic Review of Green-Oriented Terms in the Field of Cultural Heritage

    Get PDF
The concept of green conservation has become a popular expression in parallel to the inflated development of innovative green practices and products for cultural heritage. However, the absence of a consistent definition of emerging green concepts does not prevent the dilution of the terms in scientific research and commercial propaganda. On this basis, this article discusses the several meanings of the concept of green conservation and its related terms toward a viable and comprehensive definition. The semantic analysis relies on the identification of different sources to evaluate the coherence of the meanings in usage in scientific and non-scientific domains. Search terms—such as “bio”, “eco”, and “green”—were collected and classified into lemmas of emerging constructs. Lastly, two glossaries resulting from the two main sources provide a comparative analysis to evaluate the degree of intersection and divergence among equal terms. The research drew from over 100 studies and five international databases to generate a hierarchical classification among 220 constructs and to identify six definitions of green conservation. This paper contributes to greater clarity and encourages a semantic discussion toward a common vision for a green conservation perspective for future research and informed preservation practice

Design for Recycling Guidelines of Paper-Based Packaging - A Review for Packaging Designers

    Get PDF
Circular Economy requires products and material resources to be efficiently managed and used. For packaging, recycling is crucial to close the loop. Hence, packaging designers must balance pack performance, morphology, and communication to ensure its recyclability. This is particularly true for fibre-based packaging, which is the prevalent market packaging material, forecasted to increase its usage volumes. To help designers in their activities, several bodies provided Design for Recycling Guidelines (DGs). In this work, national and European DGs are discussed, providing shared design rules ranging from the substrate and its surface treatment to the packaging components. Such design rules can enable designers’ creative process and enhance the exploration of new, efficient packaging solutions. Consequently, packaging designers may achieve a broader view and play an active role in extending fibre life time; hence, reducing landfilling or energy-recovery of valuable fibres
