Implications of supermassive neutron stars for the form of the equation of state of hybrid stars

The observations of PSR J0952-0607 and the second object in GW190814 event indicate the possible existence of supermassive neutron stars. In this work, by using the Constant-Sound-Speed (CSS) parametrization to describe the equation of state (EOS) of quark matter, the constraints on the EOS parameters from supermassive hybrid stars are investigated through the Maxwell and Gibbs constructions. It is shown that to support a supermassive hybrid star, a lower transition energy density, a smaller energy density discontinuity and a higher sound speed of quark matter are favored. For the constructed hybrid star EOS model, the maximum mass of the corresponding hybrid stars will not meet the lower mass limit of the second object in GW190814 if the energy density discontinuity takes a value higher than 180 MeV fm−3180~{\rm MeV~fm^{-3}}. Moreover, it is confirmed that the supermassive neutron star observation can also rule out the existence of twin stars as a supermassive hybrid star requires a relatively small energy density discontinuity. Finally, we give a rough estimate of the lower limit of the dimensionless tidal deformability of neutron stars which ranges from 2 to 3.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

Study on the spatial variation of sensitivity of soil nutrient system in Xinjiang, China

    Get PDF
Previous studies have explored the long time series and large-scale cultivated land nutrient sensitivity and its spatial differentiation characteristics in arid zones from human activities in the context of climate change. This study is based on 10-year interval data on soil nutrient content of cultivated land in the oasis in Xinjiang, China, cultivated land use intensity (LUI) and climate data sets. Using sensitivity and GIS analysis methods, this paper studies soil nutrient sensitivities and their spatial distribution patterns in the context of LUI and climate change. The results showed significant response differences and spatial heterogeneity regarding the sensitivity of soil nutrient systems to LUI and climate change. Among them, soil nutrients were the most sensitive to temperature changes, followed by LUI, while precipitation was the weakest. Soil nutrient sensitivity showed a decreasing spatial distribution pattern from the northeast to the southwest. The soil nutrient system had a strong adaptability to LUI and climate change. However, there were differences in different sensitivity states. These results provide scientific guidance for the spatial selection and implementation of soil fertility enhancement and land remediation projects in similar arid areas

Tomato LysM Receptor-Like Kinase SlLYK12 Is Involved in Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Symbiosis

Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) is a widespread symbiotic relationship between plants and fungi (Glomeromycota), which improves the supply of water and nutrients to host plants. AM symbiosis is set in motion by fungal chitooligosaccharides and lipochitooligosaccharides, which are perceived by plant-specific LysM-type receptor kinases (LYK). In rice this involves OsCERK1, a LYK also essential for chitin triggered innate immunity. In contrast in legumes, the CERK1 homologous gene experienced duplication events resulting in subfunctionalization. However, it remains unknown whether this subfunctionalization is legume-specific, or has occurred also in other dicot plant species. We identified four CERK1 homologs in tomato (SlLYK1, SlLYK11, SlLYK12, and SlLYK13) and investigated their roles in chitin signaling and AM symbiosis. We found that knockdown of SlLYK12 in tomato significantly reduced AM colonization, whereas chitin-induced responses were unaffected. In contrast, knockdown of SlLYK1 resulted in reduced responses to chitin, but did not alter responses to AM fungi. Moreover, ectopic overexpression of SlLYK1 and SlLYK13 in Nicotiana benthamiana induced cell death, whereas SlLYK12 overexpression did not. Based on our results and comparison with rice OsCERK1, we hypothesize that OsCERK1 orthologs in tomato underwent gene duplication, leading to the subfunctionalization of immunity and symbiosis

With the increasingly severe situation of water pollution control, optimal design of the mixing flow field of submersible mixers and improving the mixing uniformity of activated sludge have become key research issues. At present, the research on the submersible mixer is mostly focused on water as the medium, and the flow field characteristics of solid-liquid two-phase flow, which is closer to the actual scene, still need more systematic research. This paper presented numerical simulations of the solid‒liquid two‒phase flow problem at various installation heights based on the coupled CFD‒DEM method in the Euler‒Lagrange framework. The velocity distribution, dead zone distribution, particles’ velocity development, particles’ mixing degree, and particles’ aggregation of the flow field were compared and analyzed for different installation heights. The results show that the flow field has two flow patterns: single‒ and double‒circulation, due to different installation heights, in which the velocity and turbulent kinetic energy of the flow field of the double‒circulation flow pattern are more uniform. The installation height affects the moment particles enter the impeller and the core jet zone, thus affecting the degree of particle mixing and the mixing time. The adjustment of the installation height also has an impact on particle aggregation. These findings indicate that the installation height significantly affects the flow field characteristics and the particle motion distribution. The coupled CFD‒DEM method can analyze the macroscopic phenomenon of the solid‒liquid two‒phase flow field of the submersible mixer from the scale of microscopic particles, which provides a theoretical approach for the optimal design of the mixing flow field. It can provide better guidance for engineering practice

In this study, the performance of submersible mixers in sewage treatment was improved by optimizing the installation position parameters of the mixer. The aim was to enhance the average flow velocity and mixing efficiency in the pool. The study employed ISIGHT software, integrated with Creo Parametric 6.0 software and ANSYS Workbench 2020 software, to analyze the factors affecting mean flow velocity and completed a multi-objective optimized design using Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II). The study used the ISIGHT software to analyze the factors affecting mean flow velocity in the pool. The installation position parameters of the submersible mixer were selected as design variables. The study employed Creo Parametric 6.0 software to create a three-dimensional model of the pool and the submersible mixer. ANSYS Workbench 2020 software was used to simulate fluid flow in the pool. The Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) was used for multi-objective optimization. The results of the study indicated an increase of approximately 0.021 m/s in average flow velocity and an improvement of approximately 0.47% in mixing efficiency compared to pre-optimization values. The effective axial propulsion distance and effective radial diffusion radius were significantly increased by 6.71% and 8.33%, respectively, after optimization. The fluid distribution in the pool became more uniform, and the low-speed zone was greatly reduced, resulting in an enhanced flow state of the fluid in the pool and a strengthened mixing effect. The study provides insights into the control of the submersible mixer’s installation position to improve the average flow velocity inside the pool. Automatic optimization of submersible mixer installation locations using the ISIGHT software can effectively improve mixing efficiency, overall plant operating efficiency, and economic benefits in sewage treatment plants. The multi-objective optimization platform based on the ISIGHT platform for wastewater treatment mixer installation location can be successfully applied in engineering practice

The equations for the three-dimensional incompressible flow of liquid crystals are considered in a smooth bounded domain. The existence and uniqueness of the global strong solution with small initial data are established. It is also proved that when the strong solution exists, all the global weak solutions constructed in [16] must be equal to the unique strong solution

Case report: Abolishing primary resistance to PD-1 blockade by short-term treatment of lenvatinib in a patient with advanced metastatic renal cell carcinoma

    Get PDF
Anti-PD-1 immunotherapy has been extensively used in treatment of patients with advanced metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Several prospective clinical trials showed that the combined treatment of anti-PD-1 antibody plus lenvatinib, a potent receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), exhibited high response rate compared with single-agent sunitinib. However, whether the patients with primary resistance to PD-1 blockade could benefit from the addition of lenvatinib is still unclear. Herein, we reported a patient with mRCC who was primary resistant to pembrolizumab and achieved a durable complete response after a short-term treatment with lenvatinib. This case report indicates that the patients with primary resistance to anti-PD-1 therapy could benefit from the short-term lenvatinib in combination with anti-PD-1 therapy, and provides a useful paradigm worthy of establishing a clinical trial for mRCC patients with primary resistance to anti-PD-1 therapy
