A hierarchical power and energy meters’ calibration system

    No full text
7 p. : il.This paper gives an account on a three level hierarchical system for the calibration of power and energy meters. Major part of the complex system was developed by the Power and Energy Laboratory of INMETRO. First level is represented by a Reference System, capable of the highest accuracy measurement of power and energy in a wide range of voltage and current. The second level, a general purpose calibration system, serves for the mass calibration of standard instruments. The third level facilitates the calibration of consumers’ watt-hour meters as well as the type tests thereof. All the three systems are fully automated, traceable to national standards

    A fully automated calibration process

    No full text
7 p. : il.This work will present the evolution of a power and energy calibration laboratory, since its implementation up to now and its perspective to the future. The work will detail the laboratory´s first service calibration, the implementation of a fully automated calibration process (measurement, statistical analysis and preparation of calibration certificate), how the laboratory is preparing the young technicians and how it is motivating them to improve the system already implemented and to develop new tools to help the service

Power and energy reference system, applying dual-channel sampling

    No full text
5 p. : il.In the Power and Energy Laboratory of INMETRO, a fully automated reference system was developed for the high-precision calibration of wattmeters and watt-hour meters as well as that of energy and power calibrators at power line frequencies. Calibration is fully traceable to national standards; accuracy allows the calibration of even the most advanced commercialized standard instruments. This paper gives an account of the theoretical and practical details of the project

    Energy comparison in Brazil

    No full text
2 p. : il.An electrical energy metering comparison is organized in Brazil every year, since 1995. The Power and Energy Laboratory of the Brazilian National Metrology Institute supplies the energy reference value in this comparison. The purpose and relevant aspects of the comparison are described in this paper

Reducing the uncertainty in the measurements of power and energy

    No full text
2 p. : il.A method to minimize the components of uncertainty of a measurement of the quantities of electric power and energy is presented in this work. The measurement procedure is adopted to disseminate the referred units with smaller uncertainties than those inherited due to traceability of secondary standards

Analysis of harmonics in the power measurement

2 p. : il.The paper gives an account on a new power measuring system, based on digital sampling, which was developed by the National Institute of Metrology (INMETRO) of Brazil. The goal of the project was to achieve the highest possible accuracy at the presence of considerable harmonic distortions, to guarantee full traceability to national standards and to minimize the costs of obtaining a high quality reference system. The system facilitates the calibration of commercialized electronic wattmeters, watthour meters, as well as the analysis of non-linear loads, resulting harmonic distortions in power systems
