    Behavior Based Safety for Accidents Prevention and Positive Study in China Construction Project

    AbstractBehavior Based Safety (BBS) is one effective method on accident prevention widely applied by Europe and American countries since1980s, however little research and application is carried out in China. The experiment course of BBS was designed in this paper for China construction enterprise based on BBS research situation. Safety Index (SI) change trend chart was established and SI was used to evaluate safety behavior and change trend. The experiment results showed that BBS made remarkable performance on accident prevention and the trial employee's SI was enhanced 15% than base line during the experiment. The above results also showed that the BBS method designed in this paper was effective and adaptable to construction enterprise in China

    Probe system design for three dimensional micro/nano scratching machine

    This paper presents the design and testing methodologies for a probe system used in a tip-based three dimensional micro/nano scratching machine. The probe system is one of the most important components of the scratching machine, including an electromagnetic device and a probe suspension mechanism. The electromagnetic device is used to generate electromagnetic force to drive the probe suspension mechanism, and further scratch the sample. The probe suspension mechanism is utilized to support the diamond probe and form the capacitor plates with the aluminum film. Both analytical modeling and finite element analysis are conducted to improve the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed scratching machine. A prototype has been developed to validate the established design methodologies. A number of experimental tests have been conducted to examine the prototype performance. From the experimental results, it is noted that the developed probe system has a force resolution of 78.4 μN, a displacement resolution of 60 nm, and the first natural frequency of 465 Hz. This indicates that it can be used for the development of the three dimensional submicron or even nano scratching

    Torsional properties of Boron Nitride nanocones with different cone heights, disclination angles and simulation temperatures

    The torsional properties of single-walled boron nitride (BN) nanocones at different cone heights, disclination angles and simulation temperatures have been investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The simulation results indicate that the torque and average potential energy decrease with the increasing cone height and disclination angle, and the failure torsion angle increases with the increasing cone height and disclination angle. For different simulation temperatures, the torsional behavior of BN nanocones at higher simulation temperature is more serious and earlier to reach a failure point, the maximum torque and average potential energy of the system decrease with the increasing simulation temperature. For different loading rates, the failure torsion angle decreases with the increasing loading rate, so the fracture of BN nanocone occurred earlier with higher loading rate. Therefore, the cone height, disclination angle, simulation temperature and loading rate are considered to be four main influencing factors for the torsional properties of the BN nanocones

    Development of a piezo-driven 3-DOF stage with T-shape flexible hinge mechanism

    This paper presents a 3-DOF (Degree of freedom) stage with T-shape flexible hinge mechanism for the applications in the precision measurement equipments and micro/nano manipulation systems. The stage is driven by three piezoelectric actuators (PEAs) and guided by a flexible hinge based mechanism with three symmetric T-shape hinges. The proposed T-shape flexible hinge mechanism can provide excellent planar motion capability with high stability, and thus guarantee the outstanding dynamics characteristics. The theoretical modeling of the stage was carried out and the stiffness and the dynamic resonance frequency have been obtained. The kinematic model of the 3-DOF stage was established and the workspace has been analyzed. The characteristics of the stage were investigated using finite element analysis (FEA). Experiments were conducted to examine the performance of the stage, through this stage, X-axis translational motion stroke of 6.9 µm, Y-axis translational motion stroke of 8.5 µm and rotational motion stroke along Z-axis of 289 µrad can be achieved. A hybrid feedforward/feedback control methodology has been proposed to eliminate the nonlinear hysteresis, the trajectory tracking performances and to reduce external disturbance of the 3-DOF stage

    Design of a Piezoelectric-actuated microgripper with a three-stage flexure-based amplification

    This paper presents a novel microgripper mechanism for micromanipulation and assembly. The microgripper is driven by a piezoelectric actuator, and a three-stage flexure-based amplification has been designed to achieve large jaw displacements. The kinematic, static and dynamic models of the microgripper have been established and optimized considering the crucial parameters that determine the characteristics of the microgripper. Finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the microgripper, and wire electro discharge machining technique was utilized to fabricate the monolithic structure of the microgripper mechanism. Experimental tests were carried out to investigate the performance of the microgripper and the results show that the microgripper can grasp microobjects with the maximum jaw motion stroke of 190 μm corresponding to the 100-V applied voltage. It has an amplification ratio of 22.8 and working mode frequency of 953 Hz

    A flexure-based kinematically decoupled micropositioning stage with a centimeter range dedicated to micro/nano manufacturing

    Precision positioning stages with large strokes and high positioning accuracy are attractive for high-performance micro/nano manufacturing. This paper presents the dynamic design and characteristic investigation of a novel XY micropositioning stage. Firstly, the mechanism of the stage was introduced. The XY stage was directly driven by two linear motors, and the X- and Y- axes kinematic decoupling was realized through a novel flexible decoupling mechanism based on flexure hinges and preloaded spring. The dynamic model of the XY stage was established, and the influences of the rotational stiffness of the flexure hinge and the initial positions of the working table on the dynamic rotation of the positioning stage were investigated. The stiffness and geometric parameters of the flexure hinges were determined at the condition that the angular displacements of the working table were within ±0.5° with a motion stroke of ±25 mm. Finally the stage performance was investigated through simulation and experiments, the X- and Y-axes step responses, the rotation angular and positioning accuracy of the stage were obtained. The results show that the stage exhibits good performance and can be used for micro/nano manufacturing

    Static stiffness modeling and sensitivity analysis for geared system used for rotary feeding

    The positioning accuracy of rotary feed system under load greatly depends on the static stiffness of mechanical transmission system. This paper proposes a unified static stiffness model of rotary feed system with geared transmission system. Taking the torsional stiffness of transmission shaft and mesh stiffness of gear pairs into account, the motion equations of the whole transmission system are presented. Based on the static equilibrium, a unified expression for the relationship between torsional angles of two adjacent elements is derived. Then a unified static stiffness model is presented. Furthermore, analytical expressions for sensitivity analysis of the static stiffness on the individual element’s stiffness and design parameters are derived. The presented model is verified by a traditional model, and a good agreement is obtained. The influence of phase angle of meshing gear pairs on the resultant static stiffness is investigated. An example transmission system is employed to perform the sensitivity analysis and the results are analyzed. The proposed model provides an essential tool for the design of rotary feed system satisfying requirement of static stiffness
