(Politically) Black at Toronto Pride : queering diaspora, borders, and disruption
On July 3, 2016, the Toronto Pride parade began its procession down Toronto streets. Before it would end, Black Lives Matter – Toronto organizers would disrupt the event with a protest. This collective of Black queer and trans organizers demanded the attention of Toronto Pride and its participants in a manner which challenges the normalization of state-presence and involvement in Pride, Toronto Pride’s own anti-Black histories, as well as myths surrounding the multiculturalism of Canada’s society and government. Black Lives Matter – Toronto’s use of the Black Lives Matter global network, its own membership’s diaspora positionalities, and its deployment of protest within a homonationalist context all work to forward a Black queer diaspora and geopolitical critique of homonormativity and anti-Blackness enacted and practiced by mainstream gay spaces, like Toronto Pride, and settler-colonial states, like Canada. Embracing theories and methods out of Black queer (diaspora) studies, geographies, and performance studies, this project reveals that Black Lives Matter – Toronto and their protest function as transnational resistance against an international project of anti-Blackness at the same time it operates in a distinct local-national contextAfrican and African Diaspora Studie
Protestants Reading Catholicism: Crashaw\u27s Reformed Readership
This thesis seeks to realign Richard Crashaw’s aesthetic orientation with a broadly conceptualized genre of seventeenth-century devotional, or meditative, poetry. This realignment clarifies Crashaw’s worth as a poet within the Renaissance canon and helps to dismantle historicist and New Historicist readings that characterize him as a literary anomaly. The methodology consists of an expanded definition of meditative poetry, based primarily on Louis Martz’s original interpretation, followed by a series of close readings executed to show continuity between Crashaw and his contemporaries, not discordance. The thesis concludes by expanding the genre of seventeenth-century devotional poetry to include Edward Taylor, who despite his Puritanism, also exemplifies many of the same generic attributes as Crashaw
The Heavenly Court Scene of Revelation 4-5
The purpose of this study is to interpret the heavenly court scene of Rev 4-5 through a thematic analysis of the passage. Little detailed study has been done to demonstrate the significance of the passage in its totality or its significance for the early chapters of Revelation. Scholars have noted parallels between Revelation and the Old Testament, but only recently have they begun to recognize the major impact of the Old Testament concept of covenant on Revelation. The research approach for this study is thematic m nature, with exegesis as a necessary tool. Chapter 1 establishes Rev 4-5 as a literary and thematic unit, justifies its contextual limits, and provides an overview of the passage to isolate the following five themes: temple theology; ontological cosmic unity; judgment; covenant sad royal theology; and involvement of the Trinity in salvation. Chapter 2 provides a biblical overview of these themes to establish their biblical meanings. Chapter 3 examines the themes and motifs of Rev 1*3 which have particular contextual significance for the interpretation of Rev 4-5. Chapter 4 gives an analytical overview of the principal heavenly court scenes in the Old Testament which have parallels in the heavenly court scene of Rev 4-5. Chapter 5 provides an interpretation of Rev 4-5 within the framework of the five themes. Chapter 6 provides a summary, principal conclusions, and the implications for the remainder of Revelation.
It is concluded that the heavenly court scene of Rev 4-5 is portrayed in terms of ;• cosmic temple that is based upon the temple of the Old Testament covenant. As a heavenly court scene, it describes a divine council in session that, through an investigative-type judgment, decides the worthiness of the Lamb to receive the covenant inheritance depicted through the imagery of the seven-seated scroll. Through corporate solidarity with the Lamb, the righteous are also judged. The cultic Lamb is portrayed in terms of king and priest who elevates the righteous to the same status. With the Lamb, the Father and the Holy Spirit are united in the restoration of creation through the redemptive process of the covenant
Shopping orientation, store attributes, and apparel retail format preference
The U.S. apparel retail market has reached a very high level of intensity with a large variety of retailers evolved in the past 30 years. This changing environment requires apparel retailers to re-evaluate factors affecting consumers\u27 choices of different retail formats. To fill the gap in the literature, this research intended to study the impact of shopping orientation and store attributes on consumers\u27 apparel retail format preferences. A quantitative research with an online survey was conducted. A factor analysis was first used to identify the underlining dimensions of shopping orientation, store attributes, and apparel retail formats. Multiple regression was used to analyze the effects of shopping orientation and store attributes on apparel retail format preference. The findings reveal the preference of different apparel retail formats is predicted by different shopping orientations and the importance of different store attributes. The findings provide valuable insights to retailers to understand their market position and deliver shopping value that consumers seek and desire

Fluctuations in the Site Disordered Traveling Salesman Problem
We extend a previous statistical mechanical treatment of the traveling
salesman problem by defining a discrete "site disordered'' problem in which
fluctuations about saddle points can be computed. The results clarify the basis
of our original treatment, and illuminate but do not resolve the difficulties
of taking the zero temperature limit to obtain minimal path lengths.Comment: 17 pages, 3 eps figures, revte
CONCRETE REFLECTED ARRAYS OF U(93.2) METAL
During the period from 1963 – 1973, experiments involving highly enriched uranium units were performed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Critical Experiments Facility to determine various critical configurations of three-dimensional arrays. The experiments formed a four-part series, and were reported by several different experimenters; the results of interest for this evaluation are those reported for the fourth experimentation, Critical Three-Dimensional Arrays of Neutron Interacting Units: Part IV, published and performed by D.W.Magnuson (Ref 1). Information is also available in the logbook . This set of experiments utilized subcritical metal units on a split table apparatus to determine critical configurations for 2×2×2 arrangements of highly enriched uranium reflected by concrete. Magnuson manipulated the configuration of several uranium cylinders and blocks within a concrete reflector. The different permutations utilized uranium cylinders of two different heights in various positions in the three dimensional array; certain cases also placed thin uranium blocks on top of the cylinders. The thickness of the surrounding concrete, as well as the inner dimensions of the concrete reflector was also varied in certain cases. The variations resulted in fourteen different experimental permutations or configurations. All fourteen configurations were judged to be unacceptable for use as criticality safety benchmarks. All experiments were initially evaluated; however only three configurations were evaluated in detail. Configurations 2, 4, 6 and 12 were not evaluated in detail because they are subcritical and configurations 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10 were also were not evaluated in detail because they were supercritical by more than beta effective (~0.007), or prompt critical. The experiments evaluated in detail for this benchmark were configurations 1, 3, and 11. The experimental report also contains the information for HEU-MET-FAST-056. Closely related work has been recorded in HEU-MET-FAST-053, which is a benchmark evaluation of a different series of three dimensional array experiments with four different moderator materials. HEU-MET-FAST-023 and HEU-MET-FAST-026 are also related because they utilize the same metal cylinders as these experiments
