Preserving and promoting the historical cultural heritage of rural communities in West Bengal and Bangladesh: Report on a workshop held in Kolkata Saturday 29 April 2017
This report is the product of a workshop held in Kolkata, West Bengal, in April 2017, in which academic experts met to discuss the range of issues relating to the promotion and preservation of historical cultural heritage in the cross-border region that is West Bengal and Bangladesh. The objective of the discussions was to provide the evidence-base for future calls under the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The workshop also enabled the strengthening of existing relationships with the University of Glasgowās partners in India, and the foundation of new relationships with others in West Bengal and Bangladesh, in order to establish a consortium to underpin a larger GCRF project proposal
The 'Peace' in the liturgies of the Scottish Episcopal Church
A survey and study of the liturgical Kiss of Peace in the historical liturgies of the Scottish Episcopal Church, arguing that, with the exception of the 1970 rite, the Peace in the liturgies of the Scottish Episcopal Church has had a continuous significance both as a kind of sealing of intercessory prayer, and as a form of mutual recognition within a gathered community, linked also to reconciliation. To move the āPeaceā back to the Roman position would now
disrupt a consistent meaning. Several suggestions and questions to be considered in the process of revision are posed at the end

Eucharist, church, and judgment: initial questions about the liturgical and ecclesiological implications of the COVID-19 pandemic
I consider the significance, for Christians' self-understanding and identity as a Church, of the suspension of public worship. I discuss in particular the liturgical customs which have been temporarily discontinued, and the profound theological questions raised by the measures taken to meet the spiritual needs of congregations by means of on-line worship. Celebrations of the Eucharist, with āremoteā or āvirtualā participation via the internet, require careful reflection on the nature of the Church itself. Word and Sacrament are inextricably linked, and reading and reflection on Scripture and prayer remain available and necessary when gathering as a community is not possible. A crisis is a time of judgment, when we are exposed to Godās
truth, and have the opportunity to persevere in faith, to learn and to grow
What is a Deacon? A liturgical perspective
In the renewal of the order of Deacons, the liturgy must be our starting point; for until we understand the liturgical nature of the Deacon, we cannot understand the way in which Deacons relate to the world. The argument of what follows is therefore that the work of Deacons in the world is to be seen in the light of their role in the celebration of the Eucharistic liturgy, which is āfor the life of the worldā (John 6. 51)
