Quark Mass Matrices in the A_4 Model

If the standard model of quark interactions is supplemented by a discrete A_4 symmetry (which may be relevant for the lepton sector), the spontaneous breaking of the electroweak gauge symmetry allows arbitrary quark masses, but all mixing angles are predicted to be zero. A pattern of the explicit breaking of A_4 is proposed, which results in a realistic charged-current mixing matrix.Comment: 6 pages, no figur

Rapidity particle spectra in sudden hadronization of QGP

    Get PDF
We show that the remaining internal longitudinal flow of colliding quarks in nuclei offers a natural explanation for the diversity of rapidity spectral shapes observed in Pb--Pb 158AGeV nuclear collisions. Thus QGP sudden hadronization reaction picture is a suitable approach to explain the rapidity spectra of hadrons produced.Comment: 3 pages including 2 figure

Kl3γ+K^+_{l3\gamma} decays revisited: branching ratios and T-odd momenta correlations

We calculate the branching ratios of the K+π0l+νlγ(l=e,μ)K^+ \to \pi^0 l^+ \nu_l\gamma (l = e, \mu) decays, and the T-odd triple momenta correlations ξ=q[pl×pπ]/MK3\xi=\vec{q}\cdot[\vec{p}_l \times \vec{p}_\pi]/M^3_K, due to the electromagnetic final state interaction, in these processes. The contributions on the order of ω1\omega^{-1} and ω0\omega^0 to the corresponding amplitudes are treated exactly. For the branching ratios, the corrections on the order of ω\omega are estimated and demonstrated to be small. We compare the results with those of other authors. In some cases our results differ considerably from the previous ones.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures; references adde

    Holographic Construction of Technicolor Theory

We construct a dual description of technicolor theory based on the D4/D8 brane configuration. A strongly-coupled technicolor theory is identified as the effective theory on D-branes, and from the gauge/gravity correspondence, we explore the weakly-coupled holographic description of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. It is found from the D-brane probe action that the masses of W and Z bosons are given by the decay constant of technipion, and the technimesons become hierarchically heavy. Moreover, the couplings of heavier modes to standard model fermions are rather suppressed. The oblique correction parameters are also evaluated and found to be small except for the S parameter, which can be reduced by modifying the model. The fermion fields are introduced at the intersections of D-branes and their masses are generated via massive gauge bosons from open strings stretching between D-branes.Comment: 23 pages; references added, minor change

Proton Sea Quark Flavour Asymmetry and Roper Resonance

We study the proton and the Roper resonance together with the meson cloud model, by constructing a Hamiltonian matrix and solving the eigenvalue equation. The proton sea quark flavour asymmetry and some properties of the Roper resonance are thus reproduced in one scheme

New England Regional Health Equity Profile & Call to Action

    Get PDF
Good health is a foundation that allows people to participate in the most important aspects of life. The purpose of the New England Regional Health Equity Profile and Call to Action is to identify where differences in good health exist among racial, ethnic, and disability populations in New England as well as foster policy, programmatic, and individual action to combat health disparities and achieve health equity for racial, ethnic, disability and underserved populations in New England. The report was written by the members of the New England Regional Health Equity Council (RHEC), one of ten regional health equity councils formed by the Office of Minority Health at the federal Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of the New England RHEC is to achieve health equity for all through collective action in the New England region. The New England RHEC’s vision is to achieve health equity through cross-sector interaction and collaboration of activities and resources to optimize health for all where they live, learn, work, and play. The New England Regional Health Equity Profile and Call to Action uses a “social determinants of health” approach. A social determinants of health approach focuses on understanding how the intersection of the social and physical environments; individual behaviors; and access to education, income, healthy foods and health care, impacts a wide range of health and quality-of-life outcomes. The report examines the following topics: Socio-Economic Status, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity, Risky Behaviors, Cultural Competency in Health Care, Health Care Access, Health Outcomes, and the Intersection of Race/Ethnicity & Disability. It also includes a description of State Health Equity Activities and a Regional Call to Action

Glueball Production in Peripheral Heavy-Ion Collisions

    Get PDF
The method of equivalent quanta is applied both to photon-photon and, by analogy, to double pomeron exchange in heavy-ion collisions. This Weizs\"acker-Williams approach is used to calculate production cross sections for the glueball candidate fJ(1710)f_J(1710) meson via photon-photon and pomeron-pomeron fusion in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at both RHIC and LHC energies. The impact-parameter dependence for total and elastic cross sections are presented, and are compared to results for proton-proton collisions.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

    Neutrinos and Future Concordance Cosmologies

We review the free parameters in the concordance cosmology, and those which might be added to this set as the quality of astrophysical data improves. Most concordance parameters encode information about otherwise unexplored aspects of high energy physics, up to the GUT scale via the "inflationary sector," and possibly even the Planck scale in the case of dark energy. We explain how neutrino properties may be constrained by future astrophysical measurements. Conversely, future neutrino physics experiments which directly measure these parameters will remove uncertainty from fits to astrophysical data, and improve our ability to determine the global properties of our universe.Comment: Proceedings of paper given at Neutrino 2008 meeting (by RE

A low-lying scalar meson nonet in a unitarized meson model

A unitarized nonrelativistic meson model which is successful for the description of the heavy and light vector and pseudoscalar mesons yields, in its extension to the scalar mesons but for the same model parameters, a complete nonet below 1 GeV. In the unitarization scheme, real and virtual meson-meson decay channels are coupled to the quark-antiquark confinement channels. The flavor-dependent harmonic-oscillator confining potential itself has bound states epsilon(1.3 GeV), S(1.5 GeV), delta(1.3 GeV), kappa(1.4 GeV), similar to the results of other bound-state qqbar models. However, the full coupled-channel equations show poles at epsilon(0.5 GeV), S(0.99 GeV), delta(0.97 GeV), kappa(0.73 GeV). Not only can these pole positions be calculated in our model, but also cross sections and phase shifts in the meson-scattering channels, which are in reasonable agreement with the available data for pion-pion, eta-pion and Kaon-pion in S-wave scattering.Comment: A slightly revised version of Zeitschrift fuer Physik C30, 615 (1986
