    Non-abelian extensions of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and inducibility of automorphisms

    A Rota-Baxter Lie algebra gT\mathfrak{g}_T is a Lie algebra g\mathfrak{g} equipped with a Rota-Baxter operator T:ggT : \mathfrak{g} \rightarrow \mathfrak{g}. In this paper, we consider non-abelian extensions of a Rota-Baxter Lie algebra gT\mathfrak{g}_T by another Rota-Baxter Lie algebra hS.\mathfrak{h}_S. We define the non-abelian cohomology Hnab2(gT,hS)H^2_{nab} (\mathfrak{g}_T, \mathfrak{h}_S) which classifies {equivalence classes of} such extensions. Given a non-abelian extension 0hSieUpgT0 0 \rightarrow \mathfrak{h}_S \xrightarrow{i} \mathfrak{e}_U \xrightarrow{p} \mathfrak{g}_T \rightarrow 0 of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras, we also show that the obstruction for a pair of Rota-Baxter automorphisms in Aut(hS)×Aut(gT)\mathrm{Aut}(\mathfrak{h}_S ) \times \mathrm{Aut}(\mathfrak{g}_T) to be induced by an automorphism in Aut(eU)\mathrm{Aut}(\mathfrak{e}_U) lies in the cohomology group Hnab2(gT,hS)H^2_{{nab}} (\mathfrak{g}_T, \mathfrak{h}_S).     Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering: Introduction and Applications

    Scattering of light by molecules can be elastic, Rayleigh scattering, or inelastic, Raman scattering. In the elastic scattering, the photon’s energy and the state of the molecule after the scattering events are unchanged. Hence, Rayleigh scattered light does not contain much information on the structure of molecular states. In inelastic scattering, the frequency of monochromatic light changes upon interaction with the vibrational states, or modes, of a molecule. With the advancement in the laser sources, better and compact spectrometers, detectors, and optics Raman spectroscopy have developed as a highly sensitive technique to probe structural details of a complex molecular structure. However, the low scattering cross section (10−31) of Raman scattering has limited the applications of the conventional Raman spectroscopy. With the discovery of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) in 1973 by Martin Fleischmann, the interest of the research community in Raman spectroscopy as an analytical method has been revived. This chapter aims to familiarize the readers with the basics of Raman scattering phenomenon and SERS.     Ultrafast dynamics of excitons in semiconductor quantum dots on a plasmonically active nano-structured silver film

    The excited state dynamics of core-shell type semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) of various sizes in close contact with a plasmonically active silver thin film has been demonstrated by using picosecond resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. The non-radiative energy transfer from the QDs to the metal surface is found to be of Föster resonance energy transfer (FRET) type rather than the widely expected nano-surface energy transfer (NSET) type. The slower rate of energy transfer processes compared to that of the electron transfer from the excited QDs to an organic molecule benzoquinone reveals an insignificant possibility of charge migration from the QDs to the metallic film

    Bait specificity in Hook and line fishery of River Ganga and associated conservation issues

    Recent survey in lower 1,110 km stretch of River Ganga regarding ‘hook and line’ fishery revealed that fishers apply their inherited indigenous knowledge for selection of bait to harvest finfish and shellfish from river water. A total number of 26 different types of baits under 07 categories were recorded. Six varieties of fish species and four types of insects are found to be prevalent for catching carnivorous fishes. Five specially modified indigenous types of bait moulded with fish attractants were also documented. Bait-fish species association in hook and line fishery of river Ganga is discussed. Feeding habits of the target fishes was compared with the type of baits employed. Conservation issues associated with hook and line fishery is highlighted along with possible remedial measures. Different varieties of hook & line fishery which are in operation in river Ganga are briefly described. Indigenous Traditional Knowledge (ITK) associated with hook & line fishery needs to be properly documented and preserved for developing and encouraging ‘sport fishery’ in River Ganga

    Comparative analysis of chromatin landscape in regulatory regions of human housekeeping and tissue specific genes

    BACKGROUND: Global regulatory mechanisms involving chromatin assembly and remodelling in the promoter regions of genes is implicated in eukaryotic transcription control especially for genes subjected to spatial and temporal regulation. The potential to utilise global regulatory mechanisms for controlling gene expression might depend upon the architecture of the chromatin in and around the gene. In-silico analysis can yield important insights into this aspect, facilitating comparison of two or more classes of genes comprising of a large number of genes within each group. RESULTS: In the present study, we carried out a comparative analysis of chromatin characteristics in terms of the scaffold/matrix attachment regions, nucleosome formation potential and the occurrence of repetitive sequences, in the upstream regulatory regions of housekeeping and tissue specific genes. Our data show that putative scaffold/matrix attachment regions are more abundant and nucleosome formation potential is higher in the 5' regions of tissue specific genes as compared to the housekeeping genes. CONCLUSION: The differences in the chromatin features between the two groups of genes indicate the involvement of chromatin organisation in the control of gene expression. The presence of global regulatory mechanisms mediated through chromatin organisation can decrease the burden of invoking gene specific regulators for maintenance of the active/silenced state of gene expression. This could partially explain the lower number of genes estimated in the human genome

With the advent of next-generation sequencing technologies and their application in understanding MDR pathogen dynamics, it has become imperative to unify AR gene data resources for easy accessibility for researchers. However, due to the absence of a centralized platform for AR gene resources, availability, consistency, and accuracy of information vary considerably across different databases.     Characterization of Lactic Acid Bacteria and Pathogens Isolated from Traditionally Fermented Foods, In Relation to Food Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance in Tribal Hill Areas of Northeast India

    Traditional fermented food products are often connected to various indigenous tribes and thus vary due to ethnicity, geography, and natural resource availability. The indigenous tribes from India greatly rely on fermentation processes for food preservation, flavor, and nutrition. Fermented foods can provide health benefits but also pose risks from harmful microbes and contaminants that grow in the food due to poor hygiene. In this study, we identified lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in fermented food collected from Northeast India, assessed their beneficial properties, and highlighted the risk from food pathogens that have antimicrobial resistance traits. A total of 113 different samples of fermented food products were collected from the local markets of five Northeastern Indian states (Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim). Standard laboratory methods were used to isolate LAB and determine their probiotic properties, conduct coliform counts, and isolate presumptive staphylococci from the fermented food samples. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by using the BD-Phoenix 100 automated system. We isolated 30 LAB with probiotic potential. The average aerobic colony count in different fermented food was 4.4-7.7 log center dot cfu/g, while coliforms were present in 43% (49/113, 95% (CI 34-53)) of the food samples, indicating low-hygiene levels. Additionally, some food samples contained staphylococci with phenotypic antibiotic-resistance markers (MRS, HLMUP, BLACT, and STAMLS). This study indicates that probiotic bacteria could be present in traditional fermented food products of Northeast India, but contamination with staphylococci and other bacterial pathogens with antibiotic resistance traits could put the health of consumers at risk
