The Casimir effect for the scalar and Elko fields in a Lifshitz-like field theory
In this work, we obtain the Casimir energy for the real scalar field and the
Elko neutral spinor field in a field theory at a Lifshitz fixed point (LP). We
analyze the massless and the massive case for both fields using dimensional
regularization. We obtain the Casimir energy in terms of the dimensional
parameter and the LP parameter. Particularizing our result, we can recover the
usual results without LP parameter in (3+1) dimensions presented in the
literature. Moreover, we compute the effects of the LP parameter in the thermal
corrections for the massless scalar field.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figures, some results have been modified and other

Total integrated dose testing of solid-state scientific CD4011, CD4013, and CD4060 devices by irradiation with CO-60 gamma rays
The total integrated dose response of three CMOS devices manufactured by Solid State Scientific has been measured using CO-60 gamma rays. Key parameter measurements were made and compared for each device type. The data show that the CD4011, CD4013, and CD4060 produced by this manufacturers should not be used in any environments where radiation levels might exceed 1,000 rad(Si)
Bound vortex states and exotic lattices in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates: The role of vortex-vortex interaction
We numerically study the vortex-vortex interaction in multi-component
homogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates within the realm of the Gross-Pitaevskii
theory. We provide strong evidences that pairwise vortex interaction captures
the underlying mechanisms which determine the geometric configuration of the
vortices, such as different lattices in many-vortex states, as well as the
bound vortex states with two (dimer) or three (trimer) vortices. Specifically,
we discuss and apply our theoretical approach to investigate intra- and
inter-component vortex-vortex interactions in two- and three-component
Bose-Einstein condensates, thereby shedding light on the formation of the
exotic vortex configurations. These results correlate with current experimental
efforts in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates, and the understanding of
the role of vortex interactions in multiband superconductors.Comment: Published in PR
Observational constraints on late-time Lambda(t) cosmology
The cosmological constant, i.e., the energy density stored in the true vacuum
state of all existing fields in the Universe, is the simplest and the most
natural possibility to describe the current cosmic acceleration. However,
despite its observational successes, such a possibility exacerbates the well
known cosmological constant problem, requiring a natural explanation for its
small, but nonzero, value. In this paper we study cosmological consequences of
a scenario driven by a varying cosmological term, in which the vacuum energy
density decays linearly with the Hubble parameter. We test the viability of
this scenario and study a possible way to distinguish it from the current
standard cosmological model by using recent observations of type Ia supernova
(Supernova Legacy Survey Collaboration), measurements of the baryonic acoustic
oscillation from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the position of the first
peak of the cosmic microwave background angular spectrum from the three-year
Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe.Comment: Some important revisions. To appear in Physical Review
Advances in FAI Imaging: a Focused Review
Purpose of review: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is one of the main causes of hip pain in young adults and poses clinical challenges which have placed it at the forefront of imaging and orthopedics. Diagnostic hip imaging has dramatically changed in the past years, with the arrival of new imaging techniques and the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This article reviews the current state-of-the-art clinical routine of individuals with suspected FAI, limitations, and future directions that show promise in the field of musculoskeletal research and are likely to reshape hip imaging in the coming years.
Recent findings: The largely unknown natural disease course, especially in hips with FAI syndrome and those with asymptomatic abnormal morphologies, continues to be a problem as far as diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis are concerned. There has been a paradigm shift in recent years from bone and soft tissue morphological analysis towards the tentative development of quantitative approaches, biochemical cartilage evaluation, dynamic assessment techniques and, finally, integration of artificial intelligence (AI)/deep learning systems. Imaging, AI, and hip preserving care will continue to evolve with new problems and greater challenges. The increasing number of analytic parameters describing the hip joint, as well as new sophisticated MRI and imaging analysis, have carried practitioners beyond simplistic classifications. Reliable evidence-based guidelines, beyond differentiation into pure instability or impingement, are paramount to refine the diagnostic algorithm and define treatment indications and prognosis. Nevertheless, the boundaries of morphological, functional, and AI-aided hip assessment are gradually being pushed to new frontiers as the role of musculoskeletal imaging is rapidly evolving.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A comparative study for the pair-creation contact process using series expansions
A comparative study between two distinct perturbative series expansions for
the pair-creation contact process is presented. In contrast to the ordinary
contact process, whose supercritical series expansions provide accurate
estimates for its critical behavior, the supercritical approach does not work
properly when applied to the pair-creation process. To circumvent this problem
a procedure is introduced in which one-site creation is added to the
pair-creation. An alternative method is the generation of subcritical series
expansions which works even for the case of the pure pair-creation process.
Differently from the supercritical case, the subcritical series yields
estimates that are compatible with numerical simulations
