    In this article a theoretical framework is presented addressing the questions of efficiency of industrial parks. Industrial parks are seen as an element of economic policy, targeted at enhanced economic development of regions and municipalities. The article describes the historical background for the application of such tools in modern Russian economics. It also provides rationale for thorough conceptual development of an industrial park project by revealing the connection between the need for solid preparation and the project’s implementability and potential economic efficiency.     The article examines the motivations for Master’s students’ choice of individual trajectories. In the course of their studies, the students’ trajectories have educational, scienti c and professional aspects. These trajectories determine the system of interaction between students and other participants in the educational process within the university framework (academic staff and other students) and outside it (employers, Russian and foreign researchers). Individual trajectories of Master’s students can be studied from the theoretical point of view, by following the formation and development of these trajectories, and from the practical point of view, focusing on how investments in Master’s students can enhance professional competencies of specialists on the regional labour market. The authors have analyzed the master’s students’ individual trajectories on the basis of monitoring data obtained from the survey carried out in February and December 2014. The students were asked to describe their expectations, including economic ones, and experience of pursuing their Master’s degrees. The research results have shown that the biggest discrepancy between the expectations and the actual experience of Master’s students lay in the sphere of their research trajectories and their participation in internationalization processes.     Factors of research groups’ productivity: The case of the Ural Federal University

    Relevance. One of the main goals of state university support programs in Russia is to increase the number of scientific publications. In 2021, Project 5-100 was replaced by the program PRIORITY 2030 (Strategic Academic Leadership Program). The new program increased the significance of the factors affecting the number of publications in universities and the issue of the optimal allocation of funding among research groups.Research objective. This study examines the factors that affect the productivity of research groups at the university. Unlike the majority of other studies on this topic, this study analyzes scientific productivity at the level of research groups.Data and methods. The study was possible due to the availability of data for 79 research groups at the Ural Federal University for the period from 2014 to 2020. The total number of articles and the number of articles in journals with an impact factor of more than two were used as indicators of research groups’ performance. To determine the factors influencing these indicators, we used econometric models for panel data. We used two separate samples: for social sciences and humanities and for other sciences.Results. We identified the following factors affecting the performance of research groups: the number of participants, the age of the research group, the supervisor’s scientific age, and the amount of funding (the possibility of obtaining more funds or being denied funds). The most interesting result is the following: the supervisor's scientific age and increased funding have a negative impact on the group’s performance. The article provides possible explanations for these results.Conclusion. Since the purpose of creating and funding research groups is primarily to increase their productivity, the results may be in favor of younger supervisors. University managers may also be interested in the ambiguous impact of increased funding: we suppose that research groups are more motivated not by the actual funding but by the prospective amount they may get

    Most Sought-After Professional Competencies in Leading Research Teams of the Ural Federal District

    At the current stage of socio-economic development, one of the key tasks is to ensure that education quality matches labour market expectations, and the industry of science and technology is no exception. Nowadays, there is no systemic evaluation and due regard of research staffing needs and competencies required in this field. Hence, the gap between the current level of human capital development and its necessary level is ever increasing. This study focuses on leading research teams working in the area of advanced manufacturing technologies. The main research methods are the following: publication activity analysis for organizations in the Ural Federal District (henceforth UFD) in the field of advanced manufacturing, bibliometric mapping for identifying research teams, a series of in-depth interviews with research team leaders, job postings analysis using HeadHunter website database. Key findings: 1) we developed a methodology to identify leading research teams in the UFD that possess unique research and technology competencies in the field of advances manufacturing technologies; such teams and their leaders were identified; 2) in-depth interviews with research team leaders allowed to determine the most sought-after competencies for young researchers; 3) we compared the results of qualitative analysis (the in-depth interviews) with the final list of required competencies obtained in the process of analyzing job postings in the area of advanced technology in the UFD using the HeadHunter website. Thus, we identified the pools of the most sought-after competencies for the research and manufacturing sectors in the field of advanced manufacturing technologies.
