Comparative Studies of the Witch Hazels Hamamelis virginiana and H. vernalis
An investigation of Hamamelis vernalis Sarg. and H. Virginiana L. was begun in southwestern Arkansas in the tall of 1976. An overlap of flowering periods occurred from late November through December, affording the possibility of hybridization. At one site the two taxa flowered simultaneously only 30 yards apart. Variation occurs in both taxa and there is a degree of overlap in most characters, but the composite of diagnostic features distinguishes the two species. The hybrid origin of H. vernalis suggested by Jenne (1966) does not seem likely

Precision LCVD System Design with Real Time Process Control
A Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition (LCVD) system was designed using a fixed 100
Watt C02 laser focused on a moveable substrate. Temperature and height measurement devices
monitor the reaction at the point of deposition to provide feedback for controlling the process.
The LCVD system will use rapid prototyping technology to directly fabricate fully threedimensional ceramic, metallic, and composite parts of arbitrary shape. Potential applications

ACUTE EFFECTS OF MASSAGE ON PASSIVE ANKLE STIFFNESS FOLLOWING AN EXHAUSTIVE STRET CHSHORTEN CYCLE TASK: A PILOT STUDY
This preliminary study evaluated the effect of massage on the passive stiffness of the calf muscle complex following single-leg hopping to volitional exhaustion. Four young and healthy male participants had their ankle taken through full joint excursion to determine the resistance to ankle dorsiflexion both prior to and immediately following hopping. A 10 minute rest and massage were then applied in a random order and follow up measures taken immediately Mer each intervention. Calf muscle stiffness increased in three of the four participants following hopping and two participants had a decrease following massage. This study suggests that changes in calf muscle stiffness are sensitive to both exercise and massage. It is important to determine the underlying mechanism(s) to changes in calf stiffness following exercise and whether massage offers any benefit
Ehrenfest-time dependence of counting statistics for chaotic ballistic systems
Transport properties of open chaotic ballistic systems and their statistics
can be expressed in terms of the scattering matrix connecting incoming and
outgoing wavefunctions. Here we calculate the dependence of correlation
functions of arbitrarily many pairs of scattering matrices at different
energies on the Ehrenfest time using trajectory based semiclassical methods.
This enables us to verify the prediction from effective random matrix theory
that one part of the correlation function obtains an exponential damping
depending on the Ehrenfest time, while also allowing us to obtain the
additional contribution which arises from bands of always correlated
trajectories. The resulting Ehrenfest-time dependence, responsible e.g. for
secondary gaps in the density of states of Andreev billiards, can also be seen
to have strong effects on other transport quantities like the distribution of

of the class I antigens encoded in the major histocompatibility
complex (MHC) and increased methylation and altered restriction
enzyme patterns of MHC DNA. These changes may play
a role in host susceptibility to virus-induced leukemogenesis
and accord with the notion that viral genomes play a regulatory
function when they integrate adjacent to histocompatibiity
genes
Prevalence of Dyskinesia and OFF by 30-Minute Intervals Through the Day and Assessment of Daily Episodes of Dyskinesia and OFF: Novel Analyses of Diary Data from Gocovri Pivotal Trials.
BACKGROUND: Parkinson\u27s disease (PD) patients using levodopa commonly develop dyskinesia and OFF episodes that reduce quality of life.
OBJECTIVE: Evaluate prevalence of troublesome dyskinesia and OFF through the day, assessed by 30-minute intervals, as well as the mean number and duration of troublesome dyskinesia and OFF episodes, transitions between PD states, and effects of Gocovri® (amantadine) extended release capsules on these episodes.
METHODS: Evaluate diary data from pooled Gocovri phase 3, placebo-controlled trials-analyzed for 17 hours following wake-up-at baseline and week 12.
RESULTS: Diaries were evaluable for 162 patients. At baseline, 67% of patients woke up OFF, with prevalence decreasing to 13% at 2 hours and then remaining relatively steady at ∼12% (range, 6-17%) across half-hour intervals thereafter. Troublesome dyskinesia prevalence rose steadily from 5% to 24% over the first 2 hours, then fluctuated between 20% and 44% through the rest of the waking day. At baseline, patients experienced a mean of 3.0 daily episodes of troublesome dyskinesia (average duration 2.0 hours each), and 2.2 daily episodes of OFF (average duration 1.1 hour each). At week 12, Gocovri-treated patients showed greater reductions than placebo in troublesome dyskinesia and OFF episodes per day (treatment difference: -1.0 episodes and -0.4 episodes, respectively) and average episode duration (treatment difference: -0.6 hours and -0.3 hours, respectively). Mean duration of individual episodes of ON without troublesome dyskinesia (Good ON) increased by 5.0 hours for Gocovri, compared with 2.0 hours for placebo. Patients taking Gocovri experienced 2.2 fewer transitions between states than patients taking placebo.
CONCLUSIONS: Troublesome dyskinesia and OFF occurred in the morning and throughout the waking day. Gocovri-treated patients experienced fewer, shorter episodes of both troublesome dyskinesia and OFF, thereby increasing the duration of continuous Good ON episodes and reducing the frequency of transitions between motor states
Tax evasion and exchange equity: a reference-dependent approach
The standard portfolio model of tax evasion with a public good produces the perverse conclusion that when taxpayers perceive the public good to be under-/overprovided, an increase in the tax rate increases/decreases evasion. The author treats taxpayers as thinking in terms of gains and losses relative to an endogenous reference level, which reflects perceived exchange equity between the value of taxes paid and the value of public goods supplied. With these alternative behavioral assumptions, the author overturns the aforementioned result in a direction consistent with the empirical evidence. The author also finds a role for relative income in determining individual responses to a change in the marginal rate of tax
