Cascading poor quality of geodetic data

    Get PDF
The geodetic profession provides geodetic data obtained in the fields of fundamental geodetic system, real estate and topography Users integrate this data with other spatial data. The quality of such applications depends on the data quality; however, the providers and the users are not sufficiently aware of the cascading transfer of errors from the primary data layers to the secondary, derived data. Geodesy has traditionally considered errors mainly as positional errors, according to the law of the transfer of errors. Since the era of widespread digitizing of geodetic data began in the 1990s, data quality in the realm of geographic information systems has been expressed with the standardized parameters of data quality and with metadata, of which positional accuracy is just one type. Unfortunately in this way, the knowledge about which data is a reference can be obscured. To many users, it is not clear what is the specified quality referred to. This article describes, and intentionally uses, the term `cascading' since for the rise of data quality one needs to upgrade data level by data level, starting first with the reference data and the semantic definitions of object types, and continuing by updating and harmonizing the secondary data, which were developed from the primary level. The reasons for the change of paradigm regarding the treatment of quality are considered. As the cascading poor quality of geodetic data can become a serious threat for the reputation of the profession of geodesy, several contemporary applications and projects are described in which this has already happened. In the conclusion, proposals are given for improving the situationion

n the present article a concept of establishing a digital\ud database of marked alpine tracks (BAT) is given. Apart\ud from theoretical bases, a research on the existing\ud databases and their management was performed. A\ud general concept for the entire geolocated BAT for\ud Slovenia was made, especially regarding the spatial\ud component of presenting topographical data. In\ud addition, a proposal of a detailed logical/relational\ud model of the database was made, including all\ud definitions and shapes of future data that should be\ud included in BAT. All this provided the groundwork for\ud making a test sample of a physical model for BAT,\ud based on the collection of spatial data by vectorizing\ud the existing digital raster maps, and also by GPS\ud surveying on the fiel

Antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity, as well as biological decontamination potential of emulsion ED-1, highly efficient in radiological decontamination of metal surfaces contaminated with uranium isotopes, was assessed. The antimicrobial potency of ED-1 was evaluated against 10 different microorganisms including four Gram-negative bacteria (Acinetobacter baumannii ATCC 19606, Escherichia coli NCTC 9001, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13803 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCTC 10662), four Gram-positive bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Enterococcus faecium ATCC 6057, Listeria monocytogenes NCTC 11994, Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 6571) and two fungi (Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Candida parapsilosis ATCC 22019). Although without strong bactericidal and fungicidal properties in standard agar diffusion assays, ED-1 effectively inhibited the growth of P. aeruginosa cells in liquid culture and more importantly, showed high potential to disperse P. aeruginosa biofilms. ED-1 was also capable to efficiently remove Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 spores in quantitative and a semi-quantitative biological decontamination tests on metal surfaces. Antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity and biological decontamination efficiency of ED-1 was comparable to and better than that of calcium hypochlorite solution or commercial decontaminant BX-24. This study highlighted the possibility to use ED-1, with up to 5-fold reduced amounts of calcium hypochlorite in comparison to currently used methodology, for both biological and radiological decontamination, resulting in both environmental and financial benefits

Dynamic adsorption characteristics of thin layered activated charcoal materials used in chemical protective overgarments

    Get PDF
The efficiency of a thin layered activated charcoal material used in chemical protective overgarments has been evaluated. The study has been conducted with the aim to obtain protective materials with best characteristics considering resistance to benzene effect under dynamic conditions and to create a new filtration protection device. In order to evaluate dynamic adsorption characteristics of thin layered sorption materials, sophisticated dynamic gas chromatography method is used. The curves of benzene penetration are determined for sandwich materials, and sorption layers used in filtrating protective clothing shows that thin layered carbon sorption materials (type MOO) have good protective properties as compared to other similar materials. The findings will help to create conditions for developing a functional model for producing a new protective overgarment in the near future

Herein, we report on investigations of magnetic and spectroscopic properties of three heterobimetallic Fe(ii)-Co(ii) coordination compounds based on the tetracoordinate {CoP2X2} core encapsulated by dppf metalloligand, where X = Cl (1), Br (2), I (3), dppf = 1,1 '-ferrocenediyl -bis(diphenylphosphine). The analysis of static magnetic data has revealed the presence of axial magnetic anisotropy in compounds (1) and (2) and this was further confirmed by high-frequency electron spin resonance (HF-ESR) spectroscopy. Dynamic magnetic data confirmed that (1) and (2) behave as field-induced Single-Ion Magnets (SIMs). Together with bulk studies, we have also tested the possibility of depositing (2) as thick films on Au(111), glass, and polymeric acetate by drop-casting as well as thermal sublimation, a key aspect for the development of future devices embedding these magnetic objects

THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PERSONALITY IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN REACTION TIME AND TRAFFIC PERCEPTION IN YOUNG ADULTS

    Get PDF
The objective of this research was to examine how personality acts as a mediator in the relationship between reaction time and traffic perception in young adults. Given the increase in the number of road accidents among this age group in the European Union, it is essential to understand the psychological determinants of risky driving behavior. A sample of 60 participants from Poland, Slovakia, and Lithuania was assessed using the Vienna Test System to measure personality, reaction time, time-movement anticipation, and traffic perceptions. The results indicate gender differences in self-control personality factor and motor reaction time, as well as a positive correlation between the sense of responsibility and time-movement anticipation. The proposed model was confirmed, demonstrating that mental stability mediates the relationship between reaction time and traffic perceptions. A driver with high mental stability can react faster to stimuli while accurately perceiving objects in road traffic. This study has implications for road safety policies and practices. Incorporating personality assessments into driver training programs can help develop interventions that target specific personality traits. Furthermore, interventions aimed at enhancing mental stability may help reduce the likelihood of accidents among young drivers. However, this study’s limitations, such as the small sample size and narrow age range, should be considered in future research with other age groups and additional variables that directly impact traffic safety
