    List of Ishigaki Rin’s Works 1935-1943

    Ishigaki Rin (1920-2004) is one of the well-known postwar poet in Japan. As it is only 15 years since she passed away, comprehensive list of her works is yet to be published. This list is a philological research on the works of Ishigaki Rin from 1935 through 1943. During this period, she published her works in various forms such as poem, tanka, haiku and essay. Because she was young and unknown, most of her publications appeared in magazines for female teenagers. Shojogaho and Danso were her main stage for her early literary activities. We, two authors of this list, collected all the photocopies of the works in this list. Our purpose would be fulfilled if a complete list of Ishigaki Rin’s works appear in near future

    Allergic Potency of Japanese Cedar Pollen Cry j 1 Is Reduced by a Low Concentration of Hypochlorous Acid Generated by Electolysis

    ABSTRACTBackgroundAlthough Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) pollinosis has developed into a health problem, few methods eradicate indoor allergens completely. In a recent study, however, the effectiveness of inactivation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) treatment was revealed. Therefore, the present study aimed to elucidate the ability of chlorine bleach (NaOCl) to reduce the immunogenicity of the major allergenic protein of Japanese cedar (Cry j 1).MethodsSodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay, and skin testing were carried out in 7 individuals.ResultsThe allergenic protein was undetectable using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining at a sodium hypochlorite/allergenic protein molar ratio of 457. Western blotting with human sera showed the same dose-dependent efficacy. The immunogenicity of the purified protein and cedar pollen was also demonstrated on enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay to be reduced by sodium hypochlorite treatment in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Moreover, sodium hypochlorite-treatment inhibited the skin test response to the protein in all 7 individuals.ConclusionsHypochlorous acid generated by electrolysis is an effective method for significantly reducing the immunogenicity of Cry j 1

    A Japanese Patient with Gastric Cancer and Dihydropyrimidine Dehydrogenase Deficiency Presenting with DPYD Variants

    A 63-year-old Japanese male with stomach adenocarcinoma received oral 5-fluorouracil derivative, cisplatin and trastuzumab chemotherapy. On day 8, severe diarrhea and mucositis developed; chemotherapy was stopped. On day 14, the patient developed renal dysfunction and febrile neutropenia. He also suffered from pneumonia due to Candida albicans. Systemic symptoms improved after intensive conservative treatment. Best supportive care was continued until the patient died from gastric cancer. The dihydropyrimidine dehydroge-nase protein level was low at 3.18 U/mg protein. The result of DPYD genotyping revealed three variants at posi-tions 1615 (G > A), 1627 (A > G), and 1896 (T > C) in exons 13, 13, and 14, respectively

    Influence of microstructural variations on morphology and separation properties of polybutadiene-based polyurethanes

    Polybutadiene-based polyurethanes with different cis/trans/1, 2-vinyl microstructure contents are synthesized. The phase morphology and physical properties of the polymers are investigated using spectroscopic analysis (FTIR and Raman), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray scattering (WAXD and SAXS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, their gas transport properties are determined for different gases at 4 bar and 25 °C. Thermodynamic incompatibility and steric hindrance of pendant groups are the dominant factors affecting the morphology and properties of the PUs. FTIR spectra, DSC, and SAXS analysis reveal a higher extent of phase mixing in high vinyl-content PUs. Moreover, the SAXS analysis and AFM phase images indicate smaller microdomains by increasing the vinyl content. Smaller permeable soft domains as well as the lower phase separation of the PUs with higher vinyl content create more tortuous pathways for gas molecules and deteriorate the gas permeability of the membranes

    The Inhibitory Effect of Kakkonto, Japanese Traditional (Kampo) Medicine, on Brain Penetration of Oseltamivir Carboxylate in Mice with Reduced Blood-Brain Barrier Function

    Oseltamivir phosphate (OP) is used to treat influenza virus infections. However, its use may result in central nervous system (CNS) adverse effects. In Japan, OP is used with Kampo formulations to improve clinical effectiveness. We evaluated the potential for using Kampo formulations to reduce CNS adverse effects by quantifying the CNS distribution of oseltamivir and its active metabolite oseltamivir carboxylate (OC) when administered with maoto and kakkonto. We administered lipopolysaccharide (LPS) by intraperitoneal injection to C57BL/6 mice to reduce blood-brain barrier function. Saline, maoto, and kakkonto were administered orally at the same time as LPS. OP was orally administered 4 hours after the last LPS injection and the migration of oseltamivir and OC was examined. Additionally, we examined the brain distribution of OC following intravenous administration. Changes in OC concentrations in the brain suggest that, in comparison to LPS-treated control mice, both Kampo formulations increased plasma levels of OC, thereby enhancing its therapeutic effect. Additionally, our findings suggest kakkonto may not only improve the therapeutic effect of oseltamivir but also reduce the risk of CNS-based adverse effects. Considering these findings, it should be noted that administration of kakkonto during periods of inflammation has led to increased OAT3 expression

Here, we induced MSCs from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) via a neural crest cell (NCC) lineage under xeno-free conditions and evaluated their in vivo functions. We modified a previous MSC induction method to work under xeno-free conditions. Bovine serum albumin-containing NCC induction medium and fetal bovine serum-containing MSC induction medium were replaced with xeno-free medium. Through our optimized method, iPSCs differentiated into MSCs with high efficiency. To evaluate their in vivo activities, we transplanted the xeno-free-induced MSCs (XF-iMSCs) into mouse models for bone and skeletal muscle regeneration and confirmed their regenerative potency. These XF-iMSCs mainly promoted the regeneration of surrounding host cells, suggesting that they secrete soluble factors into affected regions. We also found that the peroxidasin and IGF2 secreted by the XF-iMSCs partially contributed to myotube differentiation. These results suggest that XF-iMSCs are important for future applications in regenerative medicine

    Possible Progression of Mass-flow Processes around Young Intermediate-mass Stars Based on High-resolution Near-infrared Spectroscopy. I. Taurus

    We used the WINERED spectrograph to perform near-infrared high-resolution spectroscopy (resolving power R = 28,000) of 13 young intermediate-mass stars in the Taurus star-forming region. Based on the presence of near- and mid-infrared continuum emission, young intermediate-mass stars can be classified into three different evolutionary stages: Phases I, II, and III in the order of evolution. Our obtained spectra (λ = 0.91–1.35 μm) depict He i λ10830 and Pβ lines that are sensitive to magnetospheric accretion and winds. We also investigate five sources each for Pβ and He i lines that were obtained from previous studies along with our targets. We observe that the Pβ profile morphologies in Phases I and II corresponded to an extensive variety of emission features; however, these features are not detected in Phase III. We also observe that the He i profile morphologies are mostly broad subcontinuum absorption lines in Phase I, narrow subcontinuum absorption lines in Phase II, and centered subcontinuum absorption features in Phase III. Our results indicate that the profile morphologies exhibit a progression of the dominant mass-flow processes: stellar wind and probably magnetospheric accretion in the very early stage, magnetospheric accretion and disk wind in the subsequent stage, and no activities in the final stage. These interpretations further suggest that opacity in protoplanetary disks plays an important role in mass-flow processes. Results also indicate that He i absorption features in Phase III sources, associated with chromospheric activities even in such young phases, are characteristics of intermediate-mass stars
