Absence of Wigner Crystallization in Graphene
Graphene, a single sheet of graphite, has attracted tremendous attention due
to recent experiments which demonstrate that carriers in it are described by
massless fermions with linear dispersion. In this note, we consider the
possibility of Wigner crystallization in graphene in the absence of external
magnetic field. We show that the ratio of potential and kinetic energy is
independent of the carrier density, the tuning parameter that usually drives
Wigner crystallization and find out that for given material parameters
(dielectric constant and Fermi velocity), Wigner crystallization is not
possible. We comment on the how these results change in the presence of a
strong external magnetic field.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure,Submitted for PR
Spin waves in quasi-equilibrium spin systems
Using the Landau Fermi liquid theory we have discovered a new regime for the
propagation of spin waves in a quasi-equilibrium spin systems. We have
determined the dispersion relation for the transverse spin waves and found that
one of the modes is gapless. The gapless mode corresponds to the precessional
mode of the magnetization in a paramagnetic system in the absence of an
external magnetic field. One of the other modes is gapped which is associated
with the precession of the spin current around the internal field. The gapless
mode has a quadratic dispersion leading to some interesting thermodynamic
properties including a contribution to the specific heat. We also
show that these modes make significant contributions to the dynamic structure
function.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Pairing symmetry signatures of T1 in superconducting ferromagnets
We study the nuclear relaxation rate 1/T1 as a function of temperature for a
superconducting-ferromagnetic coexistent system using a p-wave triplet model
for the superconducting pairing symmetry. This calculation is contrasted with a
singlet s-wave one done previously, and we see for the s-wave case that there
is a Hebel-Slichter peak, albeit reduced due to the magnetization, and no peak
for the p-wave case. We then compare these results to a nuclear relaxation rate
experiment on UGe2 to determine the possible pairing symmetry signatures in
that material. It is seen that the experimental data is inconclusive to rule
out the possibility of s-wave pairing in .Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Law Enforcement Agencies in Disaster Response in Nepal: Analyzing the Competency of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force
Although Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are the key responding tools of disaster response in Nepal, their response competency does not suffice the need for effective response. Applying quantitative research methodology, this research has in-depth investigated the fundamental and technical knowledge, and preparedness activities of such police personnel. Ultimately it was discovered that their knowledge and preparedness are not adequate to meet the need. On the other hand, the practice of the usage of disaster untrained police personnel in response operations is prevalent in the country. And this tendency is not only risking the life of the disaster victims but also putting the responders’ lives at stake. Amidst such bleakness, during the investigation, the perception of the police personnel on their engagement in disaster response was found highly aspiring. Indeed this tendency will work as the force multiplier if their capacity is enhanced properly. The study has further investigated that the lethargic national investment in the disaster response capacity building process is the fundamental problem in terms of the competency building process. Heavy reliance on foreign aids and national and international non-government agencies has not only increased the dependency on capacity building process but also mired the national mechanism turning responsible authorities and institutions lethargic
Effect of biochar and nitrogen on soil characteristics, growth and yield of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) at Paklihawa, Rupandehi condition of Nepal
An experiment on effect of biochar and nitrogen on soil characteristics, growth and yield of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) was conducted at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS), Paklihawa, Rupandehi, from November 2019 to February 2020. The experiment was laid in Randomized Complete Block Design with two factors: nitrogen and biochar, each factor having four levels (biochar: 0 t/ha, 5 t/ha, 10 t/ha and 15 t/ha and nitrogen: 0 kg/ha, 50 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha, 200 kg/ha), resulting in sixteen treatment combinations. Biochar application was found to be effective in improving soil bulk density, pH, soil organic matter and soil nitrogen and potassium content. Application of nitrogen fertilizer (200 kg/ha) and biochar (15 t/ha) alone, and in combination, showed significantly higher root dry matter (15.83 gm, 16.63 gm and 20.57 gm), biological yield (80 t/ha, 63.75 t/ha, and 95.75) and root yield (26.74 t/ha, 24.06 t/ha and 30.32 t/ha). In comparison to the sole effects of the highest dose of nitrogen fertilizer (200 kg/ha) and the highest dose of biochar (15 t/ha), their combined application showed the increased yield in radish root by 13.38% and 26.01%, respectively, indicating that the combined effect of biochar and nitrogen is more productive for the growth and yield in radish crop as compared to the sole effect of nitrogen and biochar
Physical properties of ferromagnetic-superconducting coexistent system
We studied the nuclear relaxation rate 1/T1 of a
ferromagnetic-superconducting system from the mean field model proposed in
Ref.14. This model predicts the existence of a set of gapless excitations in
the energy spectrum which will affect the properties studied here, such as the
density of states and, hence, 1/T1. The study of the temperature variation of
1/T1(for T<Tc) shows that the usual Hebel-Slichter peak exists, but will be
reduced because of the dominant role of the gapless fermions and the background
magnetic behavior. We have also presented the temperature dependence of
ultrasonic attenuation and the frequency dependence of electromagnetic
absorption within this model. We are successful in explaining certain
experimental results.Comment: 10 Pages, 9 figute
Quantum Magnetic Properties in Perovskite with Anderson Localized Artificial Spin-1/2
Quantum magnetic properties in a geometrically frustrated lattice of spin-1/2
magnet, such as quantum spin liquid or solid and the associated spin
fractionalization, are considered key in developing a new phase of matter. The
feasibility of observing the quantum magnetic properties, usually found in
geometrically frustrated lattice of spin-1/2 magnet, in a perovskite material
with controlled disorder is demonstrated. It is found that the controlled
chemical disorder, due to the chemical substitution of Ru ions by Co-ions, in a
simple perovskite CaRuO3 creates a random prototype configuration of artificial
spin-1/2 that forms dimer pairs between the nearest and further away ions. The
localization of the Co impurity in the Ru matrix is analyzed using the Anderson
localization formulation. The dimers of artificial spin-1/2, due to the
localization of Co impurities, exhibit singlet-to-triplet excitation at low
temperature without any ordered spin correlation. The localized gapped
excitation evolves into a gapless quasi-continuum as dimer pairs break and
create freely fluctuating fractionalized spins at high temperature. Together,
these properties hint at a new quantum magnetic state with strong resemblance
to the resonance valence bond system.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
