The Relationship Development and Learning Organization Dimensions.

This research examined the relationship among learning organization dimensions, leadership development, employee development, and their interactions with two demographic variables (gender and ethnicity) in the context of libraries. The researchers conducted a multivariate analysis of the variance to assess the differences by leadership training groups (low training hours vs. high training hours), or by gender; and by workplace training groups (low vs. high), or by ethnicity (white vs. all others) on a linear combination of the seven dimensions of the learning organization. A conclusive summary is provided along with contributive discussion. Implications and contributions to librarians are discussed in addition to future research recommendations. Also included are conclusive final thoughts accompanied by the limitations of this research

Stability of a hot two-temperature accretion disc with advection

The effects of radial advection and thermal diffusion were considered in investigating the linear stability of an optically thin, two-temperature accretion disc. If the disc has only very little advection, we proved that the thermal instability exists when the disc is geometrically thin. But it dispears in a geometrically slim disc if the thermal diffusion was considered. Moreover, if the disc is advection dominated, the thermal instability does not exist. In addition, we found that the instabilities of inertial-acoustic modes exist only in a geometrically thin disc or an advection-dominated disc with low Mach number, whereas the Lightman & Eardley viscous instability always dispears in a two-temperature disc. A simple comparison also showed that an optically thin, bremsstrahlung cooling dominated disc is generally more thermally unstable than a two-temperature disc if it is not advection-dominated.Comment: 12 pages, LaTeX file, 3 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS. Die zukünftige demographische Alterung und das Problem der Altersversorgung in China unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Metropole Shanghai und der Provinz Gansu

Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, den künftigen Prozess der Bevölkerungsalterung in China aufzuzeigen und die auftretenden Probleme der Altersversorgung zu analysieren. Die rapide Zunahme der Bevölkerungsüberalterung, die steigende Gesamtzahl alter Menschen und der hohe Anteil alter Menschen an der Gesamtbevölkerung sind die drei wichtigsten Grundzüge der Bevölkerungsentwicklung in China. Für diesen Alterungsprozess der Bevölkerung sind einerseits der Baby-Boom der 50er und 60er Jahren und andererseits der dramatische Rückgang der Geburtenrate seit Anfang der 70er Jahre infolge der staatlichen Politik zur Geburtenkontrolle und der späteren ?Ein-Kind-Politik? verantwortlich. Der Rückgang der Sterberate und die Zunahme der Lebenserwartung verstärken diesen Prozess, der durch starke zeitliche und räumliche Differenzen charakterisiert ist, insbesondere zwischen den verschiedenen Regionen und zwischen Land und Stadt. Die rapide zunehmende Anzahl alter Menschen stellt China vor große soziale und wirtschaftliche Herausforderungen gerade bei der Altersversorgung. Traditionell übernahmen die Kinder die Verantwortung für die Altersversorgung der Eltern. Mit der Machtübernahme durch die Kommunistische Partei Chinas übernahmen hauptsächlich der Staat und die Kollektive die Versorgungsfunktionen der Bevölkerung. Die seit 1978 eingeleitete Wirtschaftsreform und Öffnungspolitik sowie der soziale Wandel bringen große Veränderungen der Lebensbedingungen, die zu neuen Rahmenbedingungen für die Altersversorgung führen. Der Staat, besonders die staateigenen Unternehmen in den Städten und die Kollektive auf dem Land, ziehen sich aus der Verantwortung für die soziale Sicherheit zurück. Die Verantwortung der alten Menschen für sich selbst und die Abhängigkeit von ihren Familien nimmt stark zu. Gleichzeitig aber ist die Funktion der "Familie" im traditionellen Sinne in der Altersversorgung geschwächt, weil die durchschnittliche Familiengröße sich wegen der politischen Durchsetzung der Geburtenkontrolle verringert hat, weil erwachsene Kinder und ihre Eltern jetzt getrennte Haushalte haben und weil die Mobilität und der Arbeitsdruck der mittleren Generation zunimmt. Die Familie kann die Verantwortung für die Altersversorgung nicht mehr allein tragen. Dies muss der ganzen Gesellschaft stärker ins Bewusstsein gerufen werden. In einem Entwicklungsland wie China kann die Regierung nur eine begrenzte Rolle bei der Altersversorgung spielen. Deswegen müssen der Staat, die Gesellschaft, die Familie und die Individuen zusammenarbeiten, um dem Problem gerecht werden zu können. Die Dissertation zielt darauf ab, einen Rahmen für eine methodische Analyse des Problems der Bevölkerungsüberalterung in China zu entwerfen. Da die künftige Tendenz und die Probleme der Altersversorgung in China von den demographischen, ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen abhängen, können die Probleme der Altersversorgung in China durch die Beobachtung der bisherigen Entwicklung der Altersversorgung und durch die Analyse der Einflussfaktoren und ihrer Entwicklungstendenz dargestellt werden

Pandemic Pedagogy in Online Hands-on Learning for IT/IS Courses

Due to the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many educational institutions have transitioned to online instruction. As a result, instructors need to investigate online small group learning opportunities to bond with their students who feel isolated from their peers due to social-distancing guidelines. In this paper, we discuss three key issues in online hands-on learning: 1) interactions, 2) equity and inclusive participation, and 3) students’ readiness for hands-on or higher-level cognitive learning. We reflect on our teaching experience during the COVID-19 pandemic and offer suggestions to help instructors plan and implement online small group hands-on learning

Wearable Piezotronic Devices for Heart Rate Monitoring

Self-powered multifunctional wearable devices that are capable of human-device interfacing are highly desired. Piezotronic devices utilize piezoelectricity and semiconductor properties to enable devices to have seamless interaction between human and device. One important use for piezotronic devices is for pressure sensing. Pressure sensing devices have been employed in smart skins, biomonitoring, gesture recognition, and many more applications. This study aims to create a flexible piezotronic device, specifically for use in pressure sensing to monitor heart rate. ZnO nanowires are grown on a flexible polymer substrate so that they can be made into wearable devices. A p-n heterojunction is formed by depositing a layer of p-type tellurium nanowire on top of the ZnO nanowires. These wearable devices are capable of performing the above mentioned tasks through the piezotronic effect that effectively modulates the electronic transport through the p-n junction. One function in particular is heart rate monitoring. This could be an extremely useful and minimally invasive way of detecting heart diseases such as arrhythmia
