Adaptable beam profiles from a dual-cavity Nd:YAG laser

    No full text
We report a technique to tailor a laser beam profile from a donut to quasi-top-hat intensity distribution, directly from the laser, simply achieved by simultaneous excitation and control of the relative contributions of the fundamental (TEM00) and first order Laguerre-Gaussian (LG01) transverse modes. Exploiting a dual-cavity configuration with a single Nd:YAG gain element, adaptable continuous-wave laser beam profiles from the primary cavity could be obtained by varying the diffraction loss of an acousto-optic modulator in the secondary cavity. We investigated the resultant beam profiles as a function of pump power and the AOM diffraction loss, and discuss the prospects for tunable laser beams profiles

Josephson effect test for triplet pairing symmetry

The critical current modulation and the spontaneous flux of the vortex states in corner Josephson junctions between Sr2_2RuO4_4 and a conventional s-wave superconductor are calculated as a function of the crystal orientation, and the magnetic field. For Sr2_2RuO4_4 we assume two nodeless p-wave pairing states. Also we use the nodal ff-wave states B1g×EuB_{1g}\times E_u and B2g×EuB_{2g} \times E_u, and one special p-wave state having line nodes. It is seen that the critical current depends solely on the topology of the gap.Comment: 22 pages, 12 figure

Linear Field Dependence of the Normal-State In-Plane Magnetoresistance of Sr2RuO4

The transverse and longitudinal in-plane magnetoresistances in the normal state of superconducting Sr2RuO4 single crystals have been measured. At low temperatures, both of them were found to be positive with a linear magnetic-field dependence above a threshold field, a result not expected from electronic band theory. We argue that such behavior is a manifestation of a novel coherent state characterized by a spin pseudo gap in the quasi-particle excitation spectrum in Sr2RuO4.Comment: 4 pages + 5 figure

Impurities and orbital dependent superconductivity in Sr_2RuO_4

There now exists a wealth of experimental evidence that Sr_2RuO_4 is an odd-parity superconductor. Experiments further indicate that among the bands stemming from the Ru {xy,xz,yz} orbitals, the portion of the Fermi surface arising from the xy orbitals exhibits a much larger gap than the portions of the Fermi surface arising from the {xz,yz} orbitals. In this paper the role of impurities on such an orbital dependent superconducting state is examined within the Born approximation. In contrast to expected results for a nodeless p-wave superconductor the unique nature of the superconducting state in Sr_2RuO_4 implies that a low concentration of impurities strongly influences the low temperature behavior.Comment: 5 pages 3 figure

A picosecond optical parametric oscillator synchronously pumped by an amplified gain-switched laser diode

We demonstrate a picosecond optical parametric oscillator synchronously pumped by a fiber-amplified gain-switched laser diode. Up to 7.3W at 1.54µm and 3.1W at 3.4µm is obtained at pulse repetition rates between 114.8 and 918.4MHz

Comparison of superconductivity in Sr_2RuO_4 and copper oxides

To compare the superconductivity in strongly correlated electron systems with the antiferromagnetic fluctuations in the copper oxides and with the ferromagnetic fluctuations in Sr_2RuO_4 a t-J-I model is proposed. The antiferromagnetic coupling J results in the superconducting state of d_{x^2-y^2} symmetry and the ferromagnetic coupling constant I results in the spin-triplet p-type state. The difference in the gap anisotropies provides the large difference in T_c values, for the typical values of the coupling constants: T_c of order of 1K for the ruthenate and T_c of order of 100K for the cuprates.Comment: 4 pages, RevTEX, 3 figs. Transport and the Order Parameter of Superconducting Sr2_2RuO4_4

Recent experiments make it appear more likely that the order parameter of the unconventional superconductor Sr2_2RuO4_4 has a spin-triplet ff-wave symmetry. We study ultrasonic absorption and thermal conductivity of superconducting Sr2_2RuO4_4 and fit to the recent data for various ff-wave candidates. It is shown that only fx2y2f_{x^2-y^2}-wave symmetry can account qualitatively for the transport data.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, references added and update

Investigation of the ferromagnetic transition in the correlated 4d perovskites SrRu1x_{1-x}Rhx_xO3_3

The solid-solution SrRu1x_{1-x}Rhx_xO3_3 (0x10\le x \le1) is a variable-electron-configuration system forming in the nearly-cubic-perovskite basis, ranging from the ferromagnetic 4d4d^4 to the enhanced paramagnetic 4d5d^5. Polycrystalline single-phase samples were obtained over the whole composition range by a high-pressure-heating technique, followed by measurements of magnetic susceptibility, magnetization, specific heat, thermopower, and electrical resistivity. The ferromagnetic order in long range is gradually suppressed by the Rh substitution and vanishes at x0.6x \sim 0.6. The electronic term of specific-heat shows unusual behavior near the critical Rh concentration; the feature does not match even qualitatively with what was reported for the related perovskites (Sr,Ca)RuO3_3. Furthermore, another anomaly in the specific heat was observed at x0.9x \sim 0.9.Comment: Accepted for publication in PR

Impurity and interface bound states in dx2y2+idxyd_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy} and px+ipyp_x+ip_y superconductors

    Get PDF
Motivated by recent discoveries of novel superconductors such as Nax_xCoO2y_2\cdot yH2_2O and Sr2_2RuO4_4, we analysize features of quasi-particle scattering due to impurities and interfaces for possible gapful dx2y2+idxyd_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy} and px+ipyp_x+ip_y Cooper pairing. A bound state appears near a local impurity, and a band of bound states form near an interface. We obtained analytically the bound state energy, and calculated the space and energy dependent local density of states resolvable by high-resolution scanning tunnelling microscopy. For comparison we also sketch results of impurity and surface states if the pairing is nodal p- or d-wave.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Surface electronic structure of Sr2RuO4

We have addressed the possibility of surface ferromagnetism in Sr2RuO4 by investigating its surface electronic states by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). By cleaving samples under different conditions and using various photon energies, we have isolated the surface from the bulk states. A comparison with band structure calculations indicates that the ARPES data are most readily explained by a nonmagnetic surface reconstruction.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, RevTex, submitted to Phys.
