Warped Domain Wall Fermions
We consider Kaplan's domain wall fermions in the presence of an Anti-de
Sitter (AdS) background in the extra dimension. Just as in the flat space case,
in a completely vector-like gauge theory defined after discretizing this extra
dimension, the spectrum contains a very light charged fermion whose chiral
components are localized at the ends of the extra dimensional interval. The
component on the IR boundary of the AdS space can be given a large mass by
coupling it to a neutral fermion via the Higgs mechanism. In this theory, gauge
invariance can be restored either by taking the limit of infinite proper length
of the extra dimension or by reducing the AdS curvature radius towards zero. In
the latter case, the Kaluza-Klein modes stay heavy and the resulting classical
theory approaches a chiral gauge theory, as we verify numerically. Potential
difficulties for this approach could arise from the coupling of the
longitudinal mode of the light gauge boson, which has to be treated
non-perturbatively
Towards the realistic fermion masses with a single family in extra dimensions
In a class of multidimensional models, topology of a thick brane provides
three chiral fermionic families with hierarchical masses and mixings in the
effective four-dimensional theory, while the full model contains a single
vector-like generation. We carry out numerical simulations and reproduce all
known Standard Model fermion masses and mixings in one of these models.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, uses JHEP3.cls. Some minor corrections are mad
Brane-induced supersymmetry breaking
We study spontaneous supersymmetry breaking induced by brane-localized
dynamics in five-dimensional supergravity compactified on S^1/Z_2. We consider
a model with gravity in the bulk and matter localized on tensionless branes at
the orbifold fixed points. We assume that the brane dynamics give rise to
effective brane superpotentials that trigger the supersymmetry breaking. We
analyze in detail the super-Higgs effect. We compute the full spectrum and show
that the symmetry breaking is spontaneous but nonlocal in the fifth dimension.
We demonstrate that the model can be interpreted as a new, non-trivial
implementation of a coordinate-dependent Scherk-Schwarz compactification.Comment: 15 pages. v2: improved treatment of brane actions, relation with

Living with ghosts in Lorentz invariant theories
We argue that theories with ghosts may have a long lived vacuum state even if
all interactions are Lorentz preserving. In space-time dimension D = 2, we
consider the tree level decay rate of the vacuum into ghosts and ordinary
particles mediated by non-derivative interactions, showing that this is finite
and logarithmically growing in time. For D > 2, the decay rate is divergent
unless we assume that the interaction between ordinary matter and the ghost
sector is soft in the UV, so that it can be described in terms of non-local
form factors rather than point-like vertices. We provide an example of a
nonlocal gravitational-strength interaction between the two sectors, which
appears to satisfy all observational constraints.Comment: 17 pages, comments and references adde

(S)fermion Masses in Fat Brane Scenario
We discuss the fermion mass hierarchy and the flavor mixings in the fat brane
scenario of a five dimensional SUSY theory. Assuming that the matter fields
lives in the bulk, their zero mode wave functions are Gaussians, and Higgs
fields are localized on the brane, we find simple various types of the matter
configurations generating the mass matrices consistent with experimental data.
Sfermion mass spectrum is also discussed using the matter configurations found
above. Which type of squark mass spectra (the degeneracy, the decoupling and
the alignment) is realized depends on the relative locations of SUSY breaking
brane and the brane where Higgs fields are localized.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
Natural Little Hierarchy from a Partially Goldstone Twin Higgs
We construct a simple theory in which the fine-tuning of the standard model
is significantly reduced. Radiative corrections to the quadratic part of the
scalar potential are constrained to be symmetric under a global U(4) x U(4)'
symmetry due to a discrete Z_2 "twin" parity, while the quartic part does not
possess this symmetry. As a consequence, when the global symmetry is broken the
Higgs fields emerge as light pseudo-Goldstone bosons, but with sizable quartic
self-interactions. This structure allows the cutoff scale, \Lambda, to be
raised to the multi-TeV region without significant fine-tuning. In the minimal
version of the theory, the amount of fine-tuning is about 15% for \Lambda = 5
TeV, while it is about 30% in an extended model. This provides a solution to
the little hierarchy problem. In the minimal model, the "visible" particle
content is exactly that of the two Higgs doublet standard model, while the
extended model also contains extra vector-like fermions with masses ~(1-2)TeV.
At the LHC, our minimal model may appear exactly as the two Higgs doublet
standard model, and new physics responsible for cutting off the divergences of
the Higgs mass-squared parameter may not be discovered. Several possible
processes that may be used to discriminate our model from the simple two Higgs
doublet model are discussed for the LHC and for a linear collider.Comment: 22 page
CP violation in 5D Split Fermions Scenario
We give a new configuration of split fermion positions in one extra dimension
with two different Yukawa coupling strengths for up-type, , and down-type,
, quarks at . The new configurations can give enough
CP violating (CPV) phase for accommodating all currently observed CPV
processes. Therefore, a 5D standard model with split fermions is viable. In
addition to the standard CKM phase, new CPV sources involving Kaluza-Klein(KK)
gauge bosons coupling which arise from the fact that unitary rotation which
transforms weak eigenstates into their mass eigenstates only holds for the zero
modes which are the SM fields and not for the KK excitations. We have examined
the physics of kaon, neutron, and mesons and found the most stringent
bound on the size of the extra dimension comes from .
Moreover, it depends sensitively on the width, , of the Gaussian
wavefunction in the extra dimension used to describe of the fermions. When
, the constraint will be lifted due to GIM suppression on the
flavor changing neutral current(FCNC) and CPV couplings.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
Deconstructing Gaugino Mediation
We present a model of supersymmetry breaking which produces gaugino masses
and negligible scalar masses at a high scale. The model is inspired by
``deconstructing'' or ``latticizing'' models in extra dimensions where
supersymmetry breaking and visible matter are spatially separated. We find a
simple four-dimensional model which only requires two lattice sites (or gauge
groups) to reproduce the phenomenology.Comment: LaTeX, 9 pages, acknowledgements adde
