    Nodal anatomical study in some Rubiaceae

    Anatomies of the nodes belonging to 20 species 11 genera of the family Rubiaceae are investigated. Of these, 16 species exhibited trilacunar, three-traced supply to the leaves. In case of Canthium coromandelicum, Gardenia latifolia, G. longistyla, the nodes show five-lacunar, five-traced supply. In Luculia gratissiuma, they are unilacunar, one-traced. Variation in emergence of median and lateral traces however, is observed. It is the median trace that departs first in 15 species; whereas in the rest others lateral traces emerge earlier, except Luculia gratissima wherein the node being unilacunar, one-traced only. The stipule usually receives vascular supply from the lateral traces. However in Luculia gratissima, it is the solitary trace that bears vascular supply to them. The present authors are inclined to regard the unilacunar, one-traced supply basic for the family Rubiaceae, whereas others are thought later attainments.    &nbsp

    Investigations on foliar epidermis in some Rubiaceae

    The paper reports foliar epidermal features of 20 unstudied species belonging 12 genera of the family Rubiaceae. The foliar stomates although paracytic generally in the taxa investigated, other types are also noticed rarely or occasionally on the same surface. The other epidermal features such as stomatal index (S.I) and frequency (S.F), stomatal abnormalities, cell wall contours, cell inclusions, etc. have been described in detail. Significance of various epidermal features in taxonomy of the taxa investigated is discussed.Â

    Particle Size Dependent Gas Sensing Performance of Zno Nanorods based Thick Film Resistors

    Pure bulk ZnO was observed to be less sensitive to hazardous, toxic and inflammable gases. As the particle size of the materials get reduced from bulk to nanoscale, the gas sensing performance of pure ZnO was observed to increase crucially. It was also observed that, further decrease in the particle size would leads to decrease in the gas response. The optimized average diameter of ZnO Nanorod / particle size is 12 nm, which exhibits crucial gas response. The disc type ultrasonicated microwave assisted centrifuge technique was used for the synthesis of materials. The dry powders of synthesized materials were transformed into thick films by screen printing technique. Various characterizations techniques were employed to study the surface topography, crystal structure, phase, particle size, etc. effect of the surface nanostructure, different gases, gas concentrations, particle size, long duration for ageing, etc. on the gas response of the samples were studied and discussed.     Nanostructured CdO doped MnO2 Thick Film Resistors as Ethanol Sensors

    The disc type ultrasonicated microwave assisted centrifuge technique was used for the synthesis of nanostructured pure and CdO doped MnO2 powders. The dry powders of as synthesized materials were transformed into thick films by screen printing technique. Synthesized stoichiometric pure MnO2 was observed to be less sensitive to hazardous, toxic and inflammable gases, though they are of nanoscaled. Doping of CdO in MnO2 results in enhancing the gas sensing performance to ethanol. It was observed that, the ethanol response of 3 wt% CdO doped MnO2 thick films, increase crucially at 250oC. It was also observed that, further increase in doping concentration would leads to decrease the gas response. Various characterization techniques were employed to study the surface morphology, structure of the crystal, phases, particle’s size, etc. Effect of the surface nanostructure, different gases, gas concentrations, particle size, long duration for ageing, etc. on the gas response of the samples were studied and discussed. The quick response and fast recovery are the main features of this sensor

    With increased use of the internet for health information and direct to consumer advertising from medical companies, there is a concern about the quality of the information available for patients. The aim of this study was to examine the quality of health information on the internet for hip resurfacing. An assessment tool was designed to measure quality of information. Websites were measured on credibility of source; usability; currentness of the information; content relevance; content accuracy/completeness and disclosure/bias. Each website assessed was given a total score, based on number of scores achieved from the above categories websites were further analysed on author, geographical origin and possession of an independent credibility check. There was positive correlation between the overall score for the website and the score of each website in each assessment category. Websites by implant companies, doctors and hospitals scored poorly. Websites with an independent credibility check such as Health on the Net (HoN) scored twice the total scores of websites without. Like other internet health websites, the quality of information on hip resurfacing websites is variable. This study highlights methods by which to assess the quality of health information on the internet and advocates that patients should look for a statement of an "independent credibility check" when searching for information on hip resurfacing

    Social factors influencing diabetes mellitus in adults attending a tertiary care hospital in Nagpur: a cross sectional study

    Background: Social determinants of the health are the conditions in which individuals are born, grow, live and age. Increasingly, these are being recognized for their relationship to the soaring incidence of diabetes mellitus. So, we conducted a study to find the social factors of diabetes mellitus.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in adults having type 2 diabetes in outpatient department of tertiary care institute in Nagpur from July to September 2015. Socio demographic factors, health care access factors, stress related factors and self-care behavior of these patients were studied. Data was analyzed using Epi Info 7.1 software.Results: Out of 140 diabetic patients studied females were predominant (55.71%). Most of them were married (92.85%), were Muslim by religion (47.14%), were from nuclear families, (53.57%) and lower middle class (40%). 50% said that they have health care facilities nearby their house and 50.71% do not get drugs regularly in that health care facility. and only (27.14%) were insured. 64.28% of study subjects said that they were accompanied by relatives to hospital. The financial stress (73.57%) and family stress (72.85%) was more in the patients than work stress (49.28 %). 75.72% and 71.42 % checked their blood sugar levels every 6 monthly and blood pressure every monthly and very less patients kept follow up for complications.Conclusions: Our study showed that in spite of having health care facility nearby, the irregularity of drugs was a major concern. Very less study subjects were insured for their health, this implicates higher stress related factors. They had less compliance towards follow-up of complications of diabetes mellitus

    A uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric sensor for the detection of Cu²⁺ ions from aqueous environment and its practical applications

    A simple uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric chemosensor (UNA-1) has been synthesized and screened for its cation recognition ability. Sensor UNA-1 exhibited a high sensitivity and selectivity towards Cu²⁺ ions in aqueous medium in the presence of a wide range of other competing cations (Ag⁺, Al³⁺, Ba²⁺+, Ca²⁺, Cd²⁺, Co²⁺, Cr³⁺, Cs⁺, Fe²⁺, Fe³⁺, Li⁺, Mg²⁺, Mn²⁺, Na⁺, Ni²⁺, Pb²⁺, Zn²⁺, Hg²⁺ and Sr²⁺). With Cu²⁺, the sensor UNA-1 gave a distinct color change from colorless to dark yellow by forming a complex of 1:1 stoichiometry. Furthermore, sensor UNA-1 was successfully utilized in the preparation of test strips and supported silica for the detection of Cu²⁺ ions from aqueous environment

    Solvent Effect on Fluorescence Quenching of 7, 8 Benzo‑4‑azido Methyl Coumarin by Aniline

    Fluorescence quenching of biologically active studies of 7, 8 benzo-4-azidomethyl coumarin (7BAMC) by aniline in four different organic solvents namely benzene, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile has been carried out at room temperature with a view to understand the quenching mechanisms. The Stern–Volmer (S-V) plot has been found to be non-linear with a positive deviation for all the solvents studied. In order to interpret these results we have invoked the ground state complex formation and sphere of action static quenching models. Using these models various quenching rate parameters have been determined. The magnitudes of these parameters suggest that sphere of action static quenching model agrees well with the experimental results. Hence the positive deviation is attributed to the static and dynamic quenching. Further, with the use of Finite Sink approximation model, it was possible to check these bimolecular reactions as diffusion-limited and to estimate independently distance parameter R’ and mutual diffusion coefficient D. Finally an effort has been made to correlate the values of R’ and D with the values of the encounter distance R and the mutual coefficient D determined using the Edward’s empirical relation and Stokes – Einstein relation
