Reference apparatus for medical ultrasonic transducer
Once reference apparatus has been located properly, and its position on chest of patient has been recorded on skin by means of indelible fiducial marks, it is simple matter at later time to reposition probe on chest over heart. In this way, signals from exact same area of heart can be re-examined
Torque magnetometry studies of new low temperature metamagnetic states in ErNi_{2}B_{2}C
The metamagnetic transitions in single-crystal ErNiBC have been
studied at 1.9 K with a Quantum Design torque magnetometer. The critical fields
of the transitions depend crucially on the angle between applied field and the
easy axis [100]. Torque measurements have been made while changing angular
direction of the magnetic field (parallel to basal tetragonal -planes) in a
wide angular range (more than two quadrants). Sequences of metamagnetic
transitions with increasing field are found to be different for the magnetic
field along (or close enough to) the easy [100] axis from that near the hard
[110] axis. The study have revealed new metamagnetic states in ErNiBC
which were not apparent in previous longitudinal-magnetization and neutron
studies.Comment: 3 pages (4 figs. incl.) reported at 52th Magnetism and Magnetic

Theoretical studies of the transport and removal processes of Sahara dust
The processes controlling the evolution of aerosol particles may be divided into dynamic processes concerned with the motions of air currents and microphysical processes concerned with the growth of the individual particles. The Ames planetary boundary layer model was modified to construct a subsynoptic scale aerosol model to study the long term fate of the Saharan dust. The transport model consists of a mixed layer, a convection layer, and free atmosphere. Conditions used for a preliminary test run and results obtained are described
Crossflow in two-dimensional asymmetric nozzles
An experimental investigation of the crossflow effects in three contoured, two-dimensional asymmetric nozzles is described. The data were compared with theoretical predictions of nozzle flow by using an inviscid method of characteristics solution and two-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer calculations. The effect of crossflow as a function of the nozzle maximum expansion angle was studied by use of oil-flow techniques, static wall-pressure measurements, and impact-pressure surveys at the nozzle exit. Reynolds number effects on crossflow were investigated
