Observation of explosive collisionless reconnection in 3D nonlinear gyrofluid simulations
The nonlinear dynamics of collisionless reconnecting modes is investigated,
in the framework of a three-dimensional gyrofluid model. This is the relevant
regime of high-temperature plasmas, where reconnection is made possible by
electron inertia and has higher growth rates than resistive reconnection. The
presence of a strong guide field is assumed, in a background slab model, with
Dirichlet boundary conditions in the direction of nonuniformity. Values of ion
sound gyro-radius and electron collisionless skin depth much smaller than the
current layer width are considered. Strong acceleration of growth is found at
the onset to nonlinearity, while at all times the energy functional is well
conserved. Nonlinear growth rates more than one order of magnitude higher than
linear growth rates are observed when entering into the small- regime
Gender, flexibility and opportunity : best use of human resources in UK HE libraries
Aims to give an overview of some recent research into human resource (HR) deployment in library services in UK universities and colleges of higher education. The research findings indicate that staff deployment patterns in the context investigated are suboptimal and that, in consequence, individual libraries should be open to scrutiny in comparison with others not only in terms of their quantifiable patterns of library usage but also in terms of the patterns of their staff provision and staff deployment
First Evaluation of Dynamic Aperture at Injection for FCC-hh
In the Hadron machine option, proposed in the context of the Future Circular
Colliders (FCC) study, the dipole field quality is expected to play an
important role, as in the LHC. A preliminary evaluation of the field quality of
dipoles, based on the NbSn technology, has been provided by the magnet
group. The effect of these field imperfections on the dynamic aperture, using
the present lattice design, is presented and first tolerances on the b and
b multipole components are evaluated
