Self-interacting dark matter and Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C x SU(3)_L x U(1)_N model with right-handed neutrinos
We investigate the possibility that dark matter could be made from CP-even
and CP- odd Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N (3-3-1) model with
right-handed neutrinos. This self-interacting dark matters are stable without
imposing of new symmetry and should be weak-interacting.Comment: 7 pages, Latex, To appear in Europhys. Let
Phase Separation and the Phase Diagram in Cuprates Superconductors
We show that the main features of the cuprates superconductors phase diagram
can be derived considering the disorder as a key property of these materials.
Our basic point is that the high pseudogap line is an onset of phase separation
which generates compounds made up of regions with distinct doping levels. We
calculate how this continuous temperature dependent phase separation process
occurs in high critical temperature superconductors (HTSC) using the
Cahn-Hilliard approach, originally applied to study alloys. Since the level of
phase separation varies for different cuprates, it is possible that different
systems with average doping level pm exhibit different degrees of charge and
spin segregation. Calculations on inhomogeneous charge distributions in form of
stripes in finite clusters performed by the Bogoliubov-deGennes superconducting
approach yield good agreement to the pseudogap temperature T*(pm), the onset of
local pairing amplitudes with phase locked and concomitantly, how they develop
at low temperatures into the superconducting phase at Tc(pm) by percolation.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Electronic Phase Separation Transition as the Origin of the Superconductivity and the Pseudogap Phase of Cuprates
We propose a new phase of matter, an electronic phase separation transition
that starts near the upper pseudogap and segregates the holes into high and low
density domains. The Cahn-Hilliard approach is used to follow quantitatively
this second order transition. The resulting grain boundary potential confines
the charge in domains and favors the development of intragrain superconducting
amplitudes. The zero resistivity transition arises only when the intergrain
Josephson coupling is of the order of the thermal energy and phase
locking among the superconducting grains takes place. We show that this
approach explains the pseudogap and superconducting phases in a natural way and
reproduces some recent scanning tunneling microscopy dataComment: 4 pages and 5 eps fig
Exact Solution of the strong coupling t-V model with twisted boundary conditions
We present the solution of the one-dimensional t-V model with twisted
boundary conditions in the strong coupling limit, t<<V and show that this model
can be mapped onto the strong coupling Hubbard chain threaded by a fictitious
flux proportional to the total momentum of the charge carriers. The high energy
eigenstates are characterized by a factorization of degrees of freedom
associated with configurations of soliton and antisoliton domains and degrees
of freedom associated with the movement of ``holes'' through these domains. The
coexistence of solitons and antisolitons leads to a strange flux dependence of
the eigenvalues. We illustrate the use of this solution, deriving the full
frequency dependence of the optical conductivity at half-filling and zero
temperature.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure; to be published in Physical Review
Global embedding of D-dimensional black holes with a cosmological constant in Minkowskian spacetimes: Matching between Hawking temperature and Unruh temperature
We study the matching between the Hawking temperature of a large class of
static D-dimensional black holes and the Unruh temperature of the corresponding
higher dimensional Rindler spacetime. In order to accomplish this task we find
the global embedding of the D-dimensional black holes into a higher dimensional
Minkowskian spacetime, called the global embedding Minkowskian spacetime
procedure (GEMS procedure). These global embedding transformations are
important on their own, since they provide a powerful tool that simplifies the
study of black hole physics by working instead, but equivalently, in an
accelerated Rindler frame in a flat background geometry. We discuss neutral and
charged Tangherlini black holes with and without cosmological constant, and in
the negative cosmological constant case, we consider the three allowed
topologies for the horizons (spherical, cylindrical/toroidal and hyperbolic).Comment: 7 pages; ReVTeX
XHIP-II: Clusters and associations
Context. In the absence of complete kinematic data it has not previously been
possible to furnish accurate lists of member stars for all moving groups. There
has been an unresolved dispute concerning the apparent inconsistency of the
Hipparcos parallax distance to the Pleiades.
Aims. To find improved candidate lists for clusters and associations
represented among Hipparcos stars, to establish distances, and to cast light on
the Pleiades distance anomaly.
Methods. We use a six dimensional fitting procedure to identify candidates,
and plot CMDs for 20 of the nearest groups. We calculate the mean parallax
distance for all groups.
Results. We identify lists of candidates and calculated parallax distances
for 42 clusters and 45 associations represented within the Hipparcos catalogue.
We find agreement between parallax distance and photometric distances for the
most important clusters. For single stars in the Pleiades we find mean parallax
distance 125.6 \pm 4.2 pc and photometric distance 132 \pm 3 pc calibrated to
nearby groups of similar in age and composition. This gives no reason to doubt
either the Hipparcos database or stellar evolutionary theory.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy Letters, 10 pages, 2 fig
