    EFFICACY OF ELECTRON BEAM IRRADIATION OF PROCESSED PORK PRODUCTS

    The research reported on in this paper was conducted as part of a larger project. That project is on-going and is focused on ascertaining if irradiation of processed meats would be effective and economical. It involved the examination, through modeling, of the irradiation of one of many currently produced ready-to-eat (RTE) convenience-oriented, value-added pork products, sliced boneless ham. The results and findings reported in this paper represent the initial estimates of the cost and potential profitability or economic viability of irradiation of processed meats. The results and findings in this paper should be considered preliminary with extension and verification to be reported in a later paper by the authors. The objective of the portion of that project reported on in this paper was to conduct cost analysis of alternative irradiation methods and to ascertain the cost of each of those methods. Three scenarios were considered for cost analysis. The first scenario was the installation of an X-ray irradiator at an existing meat processing plant. The second scenario was the installation of a Cobalt-60 irradiator at an existing meat processing plant. The third scenario assumed that the meat processor contracted for irradiation services from an off-site company providing such service to a number of clients. For purposes of this study it was assumed that irradiation of sliced boneless ham would result in either a .06/poundreductionincostsfromprocessortoconsumer,a.06/pound reduction in costs from processor to consumer, a .06/pound increase in willingness to pay [price] or an equivalent combination of reduced costs and increased price. Total cost per pound for the irradiation process applied to sliced boneless ham ranged from 0.008,atthe200millionpoundannualthroughputrateusingCobalt60irradiation,to0.008, at the 200 million pound annual throughput rate using Cobalt-60 irradiation, to 0.069 at the 50 million pound annual throughput rate when contracting with an off-site company.Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,

    —Elektroforesis gel menggunakan media agar-agar komersial untuk zat warna remazol telah dilakukan. Agar-agar komersial digunakan sebagai alternatif media elektroforesis gel untuk zat warna remazoBrilliant Blue R, Red RB, Yellow FG, Turquoise Blue G dan Violet 5R dengan beberapa variabel optimasi elektroforesis gel antara lain : pengaruh komposisi buffer, pH buffer, dan konsentrasi media yang dilakukan pada tegangan 150 volt selama 15 menit. Kemudian diperoleh kondisi optimal menggunakan buffer dengan komposisi NaH2PO4.H2O + Na2HPO4. Pada pH buffer 9 didapatkan jarak migrasi terjauh untuk masing-masing zat warna RBBR, RYFG, RRRB, RTBG dan RV5R secara berturut-turut adalah : 29,11 mm; 35,40 mm; 33,40 mm; 32,07 mm; dan 31,07 mm. Pada konsentrasi 2% didapatkan jarak migrasi untuk kelima zat warna remazol paling jauh, yaitu : RBBR 29,13 mm; RYFG 34,14 mm; RRRB 31,16 mm; RTBG 30,25 mm dan RV5R 29,20 mm

    Bead, Hoop, and Spring as a Classical Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking Problem

    We describe a simple mechanical system that involves Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking. The system consists of two beads constrained to slide along a hoop and attached each other through a spring. When the hoop rotates about a fixed axis, the spring-beads system will change its equilibrium position as a function of the angular velocity. The system shows two different regions of symmetry separated by a critical point analogous to a second order transition. The competitive balance between the rotational diynamics and the interaction of the spring causes an Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking just as the balance between temperature and the spin interaction causes a transition in a ferromagnetic system. In addition, the gravitational potential act as an external force that causes explicit symmetry breaking and a feature of first-order transition. Near the transition point, the system exhibits a universal critical behavior where the changes of the parameter of order is described by the critical exponent beta =1/2 and the susceptibility by gamma =1. We also found a chaotic behavior near the critical point.     This study aims to determine relationship between study habits and learning environment at home with social studies achievement students of SMP Negeri 3 Jati Agung 2011-2012. The method is correlation method with the population of eighth grade students, totaling 159 students. Meanwhile, samples were taken is proportional random sampling amount to 25% as many as 40 students. Data analysis using product moment correlation and multiple correlation. The results showed that: (1) There is a strong positive relationship between significant and study habits at home with achievement of social studies, with correlation coefficient of 0.711. (2) There is strong positive relationship between significant and learning environment in home with the achievement of social studies, with a correlation coefficient of 0.624. (3) There is strong positive relationship and significant between study habits and learning environment at home with the achievement of social studies, with a correlation coefficient of 0.784.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kebiasaan belajar dan lingkungan belajar di rumah dengan prestasi belajar IPS siswa SMP Negeri 3 Jati Agung tahun 2011-2012. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode korelasional dengan Populasi yaitu siswa kelas VIII, yang berjumlah 159 siswa. Sedangkan, sampel diambil dengan cara proportional random Sampling berjumlah 25% yaitu sebanyak 40 siswa. Dengan analisis data menggunakan korelasi product moment dan korelasi ganda.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1) Ada hubungan positif yang erat dan signifikan antara kebiasaan belajar di rumah dengan prestasi belajar IPS, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,711. (2) Ada hubungan positif yang erat dan signifikan antara lingkungan belajar di rumah dengan prestasi belajar IPS, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,624. (3) Ada hubungan positif yang erat dan signifikan antara kebiasaan belajar dan lingkungan belajar di rumah dengan prestasi belajar IPS, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,784

    Kota Malang menjadi salah satu kota yang memiliki perguruan tinggi dengan daya tampung yang cukup tinggi. Hal tersebut menjadi faktor banyaknya pendatang yang menjadi mahasiswa baru di universitas tersebut. Oleh karena itu, mereka membutuhkan tempat tinggal selama mereka menempuh studi di perguruan tinggi. Dalam penelitian ini, objek yang digunakan sebagai penelitian adalah rumah kos di Jalan Kertowaluyo, Kelurahan Ketawanggede, Lowokwaru, Kota Malang.Dari hasil survei awal yang dilakukan, didapatkan kekurangan dari segi kualitas dan kuantitas fasilitas yang disediakan. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan integrasi Service Quality dan Quality Function Deployment. Dari hasil Service Quality dapat diketahui 16 atribut yang menjadi voice of customeryang kemudian dilakukan analisis gap yaitu kelengkapan fasilitas kamar kos, tempat parkir yang lus, kebersihan kamar mandi, jumlah kamar mandi yang cukup,kasur, bantal, dan guling yang nyaman, kebersihan lingkungan rumah kos, kesesuaian biaya kos dengan fasilitas yang didapatkan, penjaga kos membersihkan lingkungan rumah kos setiap pagi, tindakan tanggap penjaga kos saat air kamar mandi habis, penjaga kos yang cekatan dalam melayani kebutuhan penghuni kos, keamanan lingkungan rumah kos, pagar digembok saat jam malam, tempat parkir yang aman, lemari dan meja yang kokoh, keramahan penjaga kos, penjaga kos yang bersedia memberi perawatan pada penghuni kos yang sakit. Concerning to this, there are many ways had be tried to resolve this expansive soil, where one of it is by stabilization using coal by product (fly ash) , rice husk and lime to repair the soil.The aims of this research is to stabilize the expansive clay soil by using the blending combination of lime (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10% ) , fly ash (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%), and rice husk (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%)which were mixed with soil samples from Buyandi Village, East Bolaangmongondow Regency.In order to know its mechanical and physical properties it had be tested the combination mix of soil, lime and fly ash and the combination mix of lime and rice husk namely Atterberg Limit test, Gradation test, Spesific Gravity, Compressivve test, Direct Shear test, Standard Compaction test, and Laboratory Soaked test.Test results showed that the addition of lime and fly ash and the addition of lime and rice husk could repaired the physical and mechanical properties of soil namely: reduction of Plasticity Index , and the increasing of Internal Friction (Ø)as well as the CBR values

    Multimedia can be used as a supportive element in education. The most significant implementation of multimedia is shown in computer assisted instruction (CAI). It is a self-instructional program which provides an accessible, interactive, and flexible way of presenting curriculum material. Therefore, this research objective is to design and develop a CAI for physics as a supportive learning method at school. Interactive Multimedia System Design & Development Cycle is used as the research method. It explains about a development and design cycle, especially for interactive multimedia system. Any information and data for analyzing user\u27s need are obtained through questionnaire and interview. From the research, it is shown that most of the students face difficulties in learning physics as they imagine the logic or process that happens. Being implemented, most students as well as teachers are interested in this application that makes it easier for them to understand the physics process
