Particle field holography data reduction by Fourier transform analysis

    Get PDF
The size distribution of a particle field hologram is obtained with a Fourier transformation of the Fraunhofer diffraction pattern of the reconstructed hologram. Off-axis absorption holograms of particle fields with known characteristics were obtained and analyzed with a commercially available instrument. The mean particle size of the reconstructed hologram was measured with an error of + or - 5 percent, while the distribution broadening was estimated within + or - 15 percent. Small sections of a pulsed laser hologram of a synthetic fuel spray were analyzed with this method thus yielding a spatially resolved size distribution. The method yields fast and accurate automated analysis of particle field holograms

A generatingfunctionology approach to a problem of Wilf

    Get PDF
Wilf posed the following problem: determine asymptotically as n→∞n\to\infty the probability that a randomly chosen part size in a randomly chosen composition of n has multiplicity m. One solution of this problem was given by Hitczenko and Savage. In this paper, we study this question using the techniques of generating functions and singularity analysis.Comment: 12 page

Part Performance and Equitable Estoppel in Tennessee

    Get PDF
The Tennessee chancery courts have repeatedly been petitioned for the specific enforcement of parol contracts for the sale of land, on the basis of part performance.\u27 The Tennessee Supreme Court has consistently refused to give such relief, emphatically laying down the rule that part performance of a parol contract for the sale of land does not serve as a substitute for the writing required by the Statute of Frauds... The purpose of this note is to determine the extent to which Tennessee courts will recognize and enforce parol contracts for the sale of an interest inland when the petitioner relies on such equitable doctrines as equitable estoppel, constructive trust or part performance; to point out the distinctions between equitable estoppel and part performance, as applied to the Statute of Frauds in Tennessee; and to analyze the cases to determine the extent to which the decision of a particular case may depend on whether the petitioner relies on equitable estoppel, parol trust or part performance
