Proton albedo spectrum observation in low latitude region at Hyderabad, India
The flux and the energy spectrum of low energy (30-100 MeV) proton albedos, have been observed for the first time in a low latitude region, over Hyderabad, India. The preliminary results, based on the quick look data acquisition and display system are presented. A charged particle telescope, capable of distinguishing singly charged particles such as electrons, muons, protons in low energy region, records the data of both upward as well as downward moving particles. Thus spectra of splash and re-entrant albedo protons have been recorded simultaneously in a high altitude Balloon flight carried out on 8th December, 1985, over Hyderabad, India. Balloon floated at an latitude of approx. 37 km (4 mb)

Solution heat treatment, forming and in-die quenching of a commercial sheet magnesium alloy into a complex-shaped component: experimentation and FE analysis
Interest in lightweight materials, particularly magnesium alloys, has increased significantly with rising efficiency requirements in the automotive sector. Magnesium is the lightest available structural metal, with a density approximately 35% lower than that of aluminium. The potential is great for magnesium to become a primary material used in future low carbon vehicle structures; however, there are significant obstacles, namely low ductility and formability, particularly at room temperature. The aim of this work is to present the feasibility of using the solution Heat treatment, Forming, and in-die Quenching (HFQ) process to produce complex shapes from a sheet magnesium alloy, and to use the results to verify a simulation of the process developed using commercial FE software. Uniaxial tensile tests were initially conducted to establish the optimum parameters for forming the part. Stamping trials were then carried out using these parameters, and a simulation set up modelling the forming operation. Micro-fabrication of Carbon Structures by Pattern Miniaturization in Resorcinol-Formaldehyde Gel
A simple and novel method to fabricate and miniaturize surface and
sub-surface micro-structures and micro-patterns in glassy carbon is proposed
and demonstrated. An aqueous resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) sol is employed for
micro-molding of the master-pattern to be replicated, followed by controlled
drying and pyrolysis of the gel to reproduce an isotropically shrunk replica in
carbon. The miniaturized version of the master-pattern thus replicated in
carbon is about one order of magnitude smaller than original master by
repeating three times the above cycle of molding and drying. The
micro-fabrication method proposed will greatly enhance the toolbox for a facile
fabrication of a variety of Carbon-MEMS and C-microfluidic devices.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure
Analysis of Two-Body Decays of Charmed Baryons Using the Quark-Diagram Scheme
We give a general formulation of the quark-diagram scheme for the nonleptonic
weak decays of baryons. We apply it to all the decays of the antitriplet and
sextet charmed baryons and express their decay amplitudes in terms of the
quark-diagram amplitudes. We have also given parametrizations for the effects
of final-state interactions. For SU(3) violation effects, we only parametrize
those in the horizontal -loop quark diagrams whose contributions are solely
due to SU(3)-violation effects. In the absence of all these effects, there are
many relations among various decay modes. Some of the relations are valid even
in the presence of final-state interactions when each decay amplitude in the
relation contains only a single phase shift. All these relations provide useful
frameworks to compare with future experiments and to find out the effects of
final-state interactions and SU(3) symmetry violations.Comment: 28 pages, 20 Tables in landscape form, 4 figures. Main changes are:

[Excerpt] In this article, we briefly describe the different approaches to the regulation of international labor standards, and then argue for a new role for national governments based on soft rather than hard regulation approaches. We argue that this new role shows potential for significantly enhancing progress in international labor standards, since it enables governments to articulate a position without having to deal with the enforcement issues that hard regulation mandates. We justify this new role for governments based on the increasing use of soft regulation in the international arena. Of course, this approach is not without its own problems, but given that existing approaches have all provided imperfect solutions to the problem of improving labor standards globally, re-visiting the role of national governments is in our view, highly important
