The Infrared Behavior of Gluon and Ghost Propagators in Landau Gauge QCD
A solvable systematic truncation scheme for the Dyson-Schwinger equations of
Euclidean QCD in Landau gauge is presented. It implements the Slavnov-Taylor
identities for the three-gluon and ghost-gluon vertices, whereas irreducible
four-gluon couplings as well as the gluon-ghost and ghost-ghost scattering
kernels are neglected. The infrared behavior of gluon and ghost propagators is
obtained analytically: The gluon propagator vanishes for small spacelike
momenta whereas the ghost propagator diverges stronger than a massless particle
pole. The numerical solutions are compared with recent lattice data for these
propagators. The running coupling of the renormalization scheme approaches a

Absolute Frequency Measurements of the Hg^+ and Ca Optical Clock Transitions with a Femtosecond Laser
The frequency comb created by a femtosecond mode-locked laser and a
microstructured fiber is used to phase coherently measure the frequencies of
both the Hg^+ and Ca optical standards with respect to the SI second as
realized at NIST. We find the transition frequencies to be f_Hg=1 064 721 609
899 143(10) Hz and f_Ca=455 986 240 494 158(26) Hz, respectively. In addition
to the unprecedented precision demonstrated here, this work is the precursor to
all-optical atomic clocks based on the Hg^+ and Ca standards. Furthermore, when
combined with previous measurements, we find no time variations of these atomic
frequencies within the uncertainties of |(df_Ca/dt)/f_Ca| < 8 x 10^{-14}
yr^{-1}, and |(df_Hg/dt)/f_Hg|< 30 x 10^{-14} yr^{-1}.Comment: 6 pages, including 4 figures. RevTex 4. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Hospitalized Children with 2009 Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1): Comparison to Seasonal Influenza and Risk Factors for Admission to the ICU
BACKGROUND: Limited data are available describing the clinical presentation and risk factors for admission to the intensive care unit for children with 2009 H1N1 infection. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective chart review of all hospitalized children with 2009 influenza A (H1N1) and 2008-09 seasonal influenza at The Children's Hospital, Denver, Colorado. RESULTS: Of the 307 children identified with 2009 H1N1 infections, the median age was 6 years, 61% were male, and 66% had underlying medical conditions. Eighty children (26%) were admitted to the ICU. Thirty-two (40%) of the ICU patients required intubation and 17 (53%) of the intubated patients developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Four patients required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Eight (3%) of the hospitalized children died. Admission to the ICU was significantly associated with older age and underlying neurological condition. Compared to the 90 children admitted during the 2008-09 season, children admitted with 2009 H1N1 influenza were significantly older, had a shorter length of hospitalization, more use of antivirals, and a higher incidence of ARDS. CONCLUSIONS: Compared to the 2008-09 season, hospitalized children with 2009 H1N1 influenza were much older and had more severe respiratory disease. Among children hospitalized with 2009 H1N1 influenza, risk factors for admission to the ICU included older age and having an underlying neurological condition. Children under the age of 2 hospitalized with 2009 H1N1 influenza were significantly less likely to require ICU care compared to older hospitalized children
Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and confinement with an infrared-vanishing gluon propagator?
We study a model Dyson-Schwinger equation for the quark propagator closed
using an {\it Ansatz} for the gluon propagator of the form \mbox{} and two {\it Ans\"{a}tze} for the quark-gluon vertex: the
minimal Ball-Chiu and the modified form suggested by Curtis and Pennington.
Using the quark condensate as an order parameter, we find that there is a
critical value of such that the model does not support dynamical chiral
symmetry breaking for . We discuss and apply a confinement test which
suggests that, for all values of , the quark propagator in the model {\bf is
not} confining. Together these results suggest that this Ansatz for the gluon
propagator is inadequate as a model since it does not yield the expected

Analytic properties of the Landau gauge gluon and quark propagators
We explore the analytic structure of the gluon and quark propagators of
Landau gauge QCD from numerical solutions of the coupled system of renormalized
Dyson--Schwinger equations and from fits to lattice data. We find sizable
negative norm contributions in the transverse gluon propagator indicating the
absence of the transverse gluon from the physical spectrum. A simple analytic
structure for the gluon propagator is proposed. For the quark propagator we
find evidence for a mass-like singularity on the real timelike momentum axis,
with a mass of 350 to 500 MeV. Within the employed Green's functions approach
we identify a crucial term in the quark-gluon vertex that leads to a positive

Analytic Structure of the Quark Propagator in a Model with an infrared vanishing Gluon Propagator
The Dyson-Schwinger equation for the quark self energy is solved in rainbow
approximation using an infrared (IR) vanishing gluon propagator that introduces
an IR mass scale . There exists a dependent critical coupling indicating
the spontaneous breakdown of chiral symmetry. If one chooses realistic QCD
coupling constants the strength and the scale of spontaneous chiral symmetry
breaking decouple from the IR scale for small while for large no
dynamical chiral symmetry breaking occurs. At timelike momenta the quark
propagator possesses a pole, at least for a large range of the parameter .
Therefore it is suggestive that quarks are not confined in this model for all
values of . Furthermore, we argue that the quark propagator is analytic
within the whole complex momentum plane except on the timelike axis. Hence the
