On the Six-dimensional Kerr Theorem and Twistor Equation

The Kerr theorem is revisited as part of the twistor program in six dimensions. The relationship between pure spinors and integrable 3-planes is investigated. The real condition for Lorentzian spacetimes is seen to induce a projective property in the space of solutions, reminiscent of the quaternionic structure of the 6-dimensional Lorentz group. The twistor equation (or Killing spinor equations generically) also has an interpretation as integrable null planes and a family of Einstein spacetimes with this property are presented in the Kerr-Schild fashion.Comment: JHEP style, 19 pages, minor corrections. Isomonodromy, Painlev\'e Transcendents and Scattering off of Black Holes

We apply the method of isomonodromy to study the scattering of a generic Kerr-NUT-(A)dS black hole. For generic values of the charges, the problem is related to the connection problem of the Painlev\'e VI transcendent. We review a few facts about Painlev\'e VI, Garnier systems and the Hamiltonian structure of flat connections in the Riemann sphere. We then outline a method for computing the scattering amplitudes based on Hamilton-Jacobi structure of Painlev\'e, and discuss the implications of the generic result to black hole complementarity.Comment: 40 pages, 4 figures, JHEP styl

The web of federal crimes in Brazil: topology, weaknesses, and control

Law enforcement and intelligence agencies worldwide struggle to find effective ways to fight and control organized crime. However, illegal networks operate outside the law and much of the data collected is classified. Therefore, little is known about criminal networks structure, topological weaknesses, and control. In this contribution we present a unique criminal network of federal crimes in Brazil. We study its structure, its response to different attack strategies, and its controllability. Surprisingly, the network composed of multiple crimes of federal jurisdiction has a giant component, enclosing more than a half of all its edges. This component shows some typical social network characteristics, such as small-worldness and high clustering coefficient, however it is much "darker" than common social networks, having low levels of edge density and network efficiency. On the other side, it has a very high modularity value, $Q=0.96$. Comparing multiple attack strategies, we show that it is possible to disrupt the giant component of the network by removing only $2\%$ of its edges or nodes, according to a module-based prescription, precisely due to its high modularity. Finally, we show that the component is controllable, in the sense of the exact network control theory, by getting access to $20\%$ of the driver nodes.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Immanuel Kant: Reflexões de filosofia moral [seleção de notas]

Apresentamos aqui a tradução de uma pequena seleção das notas kantianas sobre ética. A maioria dos fragmento traduzidos é parte das chamadas Reflexões de Filosofia Moral publicadas no tomo XIX de Kants gesammelte Schriften, que se constituem, em sua maior parte, como as anotações de Kant (algumas em folhas soltas) na margem de um dos exemplares de referência para seus cursos de ética17, a Initia philosophiae practicae primae de Alexander Baumgarten, em sua edição de 1760. Acrescentamos à mesma seleção, no entanto, algumas Reflexões presentes em outros volumes do Legado Manuscrito que, de alguma maneira, abordam os mesmos temas. As Reflexões foram dispostas em ordem numérica e separadas de acordo com seus respectivos assuntos. Considerando a diversidade dos temas comentados por Kant, de acordo com o manual, tais como obrigação, coerção, imputação, lei, justiça, punição etc, tentamos selecionar alguns tópicos que assumem uma função basilar dentro da teoria moral kantiana. Dessa forma, o primeiro grupo de Reflexões contém algumas notas que tratam com o problema da liberdade e da lei moral. O segundo é um compilado contendo comentários sobre o sentimento moral. O terceiro apresenta algumas reflexões esparsas sobre imputabilidade e o mal moral e o quarto grupo traz algumas notas comentadas sobre o problema do sumo bem, sendo, em alguns casos, apenas trechos de anotações maiores. As traduções foram realizadas diretamente a partir dos fragmentos originais, embora, em alguns casos, tenha sido feito o cotejamento com outras versões, dentre as quais cito a tradução para o espanhol, Reflexiones sobre Filosofia Moral, publicada por J. Herceg, a seleção de notas da Cambridge Edition intitulada Notes and Fragments e a tradução francesa de Luc Langlois, Réflexions Sur La Philosophie Morale. Com o objetivo de dar mais clareza aos apontamentos, facilitando a interpretação, optei por completar, em alguns casos, as sentenças de Kant nas quais certas palavras ficam subentendidas. Este complemento está apresentado entre colchetes. Para fins comparativos, todas as Reflexões traduzidas são acompanhadas por sua correspondente original nas notas de rodapé. Ciente de todas as dificuldades desse tipo de trabalho, desde já, deixo aberto à comunidade acadêmica o espaço para críticas, sugestões e correções

Sonhos de um Visionário e suas contribuições para a ética de Kant

Neste artigo, argumentarei a favor da ideia de que os aspectos fundamentais do sistema da metafísica da moral já estavam presentes na reflexão de Kant contextualizada no período entre 1764 -1766. Tendo como referência o texto publicado em 1766, intitulado Sonhos de um Visionário explicados por Sonhos da Metafísica, buscarei demonstrar, a partir da reflexão de Kant sobre o mundo espiritual, os primeiros traços de um novo modo de se compreender a metafísica como problema da vontade, que introduzirá, em consequência, as primeiras indicações na literatura referentes às noções de autonomia, liberdade, formalismo, imperativo categórico, reino dos fins e sentimento moral. In this paper, I argue that the main aspects of the metaphysics of morals were already developed in Kant’s thought in 1764-1766. Based on the Dreams of a Spirit -seer elucidated by Dreams of Metaphysics, published in 1766, I will try to demonstrate the first traces of a new understanding about the metaphysics as the problem of the will in Kantian thought from a analysis of the spiritual world. Accordingly, this conception will present the first published evidences about the concepts of autonomy, freedom, formalism, categorical imperative, kingdom of ends and moral sentiment

Kant e a sua Crítica a Hutcheson e à Doutrina do Sentimento Moral na Década de 1770

In this paper, my aim is to reconstruct, through the material presented in the handschrifter Nachlaß, Kant`s criticism to Hutcheson and to the doctrine of moral feeling in the 1770s in the so called silent decade. As we can note, this criticism generally is addressed to the fact that the doctrine of moral feeling is lacking an objective ground on which can be established a categorical conception of ethics. Moreover, I argue that in this context Kant already demonstrates, from his critical position in the Reflexionen and Vorlesungen, the general lines of his mature conception on moral feeling as something strictly linked to our awareness of the law
