Resolution recovery in Turbo Spin Echo using segmented Half Fourier acquisition
Turbo Spin Echo (TSE) is a sequence of choice for obtaining T2-weighted images. TSE reduces acquisition time by acquiring several echoes within each TR, at the cost of introducing an exponential weighting in the k-space that leads to a certain image blurring. This is particularly important for short-T2 structures, which can even disappear if their size in the phase encoding direction is comparable to the degree of blurring. This article suggests the use of a combination of Half Fourier (HF) and segmented (multishot) TSE (sHF-TSE) to recover the original resolution of the SE images. The improved symmetry of the dataset achieved by HF reconstruction is used to increase the resolution of the TSE images. The proposed combination, available in most clinical scanners, reduces the blurring artifact inherent to the TSE sequence without increasing the scan time or the number of acquisitions, but at the cost of a slight reduction of the signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Qualitative and quantitative results are presented using both numerical simulation and imaging. Significant edge enhancement has been achieved for structures with short T2, (narrowing of the full width at half maximum [FWHM] up to 45%). The proposed sequence is more sensitive to movement artifacts but has proven to be superior to the conventional TSE for imaging static structuresPublicad
Quantitative comparison of partial fourier reconstruction algorithms in MRI at 7T
[Poster] 4th European Molecular Imaging Meeting, Barcelona, Spain, May 27 - 30, 2009In this work we present a quantitative
comparison at 7T of the most common partial fourier reconstruction algorithms: conjugate synthesis with phase correction, Margosian method, homodyne reconstruction, PoCS algorithm and iterative homodyne reconstructionThis work is supported in part by the projects CdTeaM (CeniT-ingenio 2010), Ministerio de Ciencia e innovación, and Ciber Cb07/09/0031 CiberSaM, Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo.Publicad

Validation of rat brain MR image intensity non-uniformity correction using surface coil images
[Poster] 4th European Molecular Imaging Meeting, Barcelona, Spain, May 27 - 30, 2009Non-uniform intensity artifacts confound the quantitative analysis of magnetic
resonance (Mr) images of animal studies, particularly when using surface coils and high-field
magnets. The use of correction methods proposed and validated on human brain images such as
the n3 algorithm has previously been reported only on mouse images acquired with a volume coil. here, we evaluate the performance of n3 specifically on Mr rat brain images acquired with a surface coilCdTeaM (CeniT-ingenio 2010), Ministerio de Ciencia e innovación, Ciber Cb07/09/0031 CiberSaM, Ministerio de Sanidad y ConsumoPublicad
Multimodal assessment of myocardial infarction in rats: comparison of late gadolinium enhanced MRI and PET
[Poster] 4th European Molecular Imaging Meeting, Barcelona, Spain, May 27 - 30, 2009Myocardial infarction (Mi) size in rats has been assessed using Mri and nuclear
imaging, but little information is available on the suitability and assessment of the information
provided by each technique. We are running a study to compare results on the infarct size as assessed
by each modality 30 days after an induced Mi in ratsThis work is supported by the reCaVa-reTiC network, Ministerio de Ciencia e innovación (TeC2008-06715-C02-01 and TeC2007-64731/TCM) and Ministerio de industria (CdTeaM, Programa CeniT)Publicad
