    Case Study regarding the test of the new screw compressor with high delivery pressure - 45 bara - on the test bench (with air)

    Screw compressors, which are part of positive displacement compressors, can find an increasing use in gas industry and beyond due to their advantages. Maximal parameters of these devices, done by Comoti under GHH-Rand license stop at a maximum flow of 3000 Nm3/hour and 26 bara discharge pressure. The needs of potential beneficiaries have imposed the necessity to design and manufacture a new family of screw compressors and oil injection able to develop a discharge pressure of 45 bara with flow rates up to 5000 Nm3/hour. This paper presents the design and experimental test phases – for the first screw compressor with discharge of pressure up to 45 bara – CU90 HP. Continue research and development have allowed to this type of screw-compressor – to find a market position, diversifying its size range in the last decade in a manner more explosive, if we refer to other types of compressors

    Carbon Dioxide Capture in the Iron and Steel Industry: Thermodynamic Analysis, Process Simulation, and Life Cycle Assessment

    The iron and steel sector is one of the dominant drivers behind economic and social progress, but it is also very energy-intensive and hard-to-abate, making it a major cause of global warming. Improving energy efficiency, introducing hydrogen for direct reduction, and utilising CCS technologies are the three most viable options for reducing CO2 emissions from steel mills. This investigation deals with a life cycle comparison of three different carbon capture processes, the inventory data of which have been obtained using process simulation based on rigorous phase and chemical equilibrium equations. In-silico models for the absorption of carbon dioxide employing MDEA, membranes, or sodium hydroxide to produce sodium bicarbonate have been developed and compared from a life cycle viewpoint. The research findings showed a variable amount of CO2 removal in the three cases, where membranes achieved the best performance (95 % CO2 removal). Since NaOH absorption produces a valuable by-product (sodium bicarbonate, which is commonly produced by Solvay process), the other two technologies were modified to integrate the utilisation of CO2 for the synthesis of sodium bicarbonate with NaOH rather than transporting and storing the carbon dioxide. As a result, this production pathway for sodium bicarbonate generates lower environmental burdens than traditional Solvay process. The environmental performances of the alternatives are nearly equal, even though the environmental impacts associated with capturing the CO2 and subsequently reacting with NaOH are always slightly higher than those involved with reacting directly during absorption. Among the evaluated alternatives, the direct conversion to sodium bicarbonate appears to be the most promising approach for converting CO2 emissions in the steel sector

    The Relationship of Cytokines IL-13 and IL-17 with Autoantibodies Profile in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Aims. In the present study, we aimed to assess the concentrations of IL-13 and IL-17 in serum of patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (eRA), the investigation of correlation between the concentrations of these cytokines and disease activity score, and the concentration of some autoantibodies and the evaluation of the utility of IL-13 and -17 concentration measurements as markers of disease activity. Materials and Methods. Serum samples were collected from 30 patients and from 28 controls and analysed parameters. Results. The serum concentrations of IL-13, IL-17, anti-CCP, and IgM-RF were statistically significantly higher in patients with eRA, compared to the controls. IL-13 concentrations in the severe and moderate groups with eRA were statistically higher than in the mild and control groups. Also, in the case of IL-17, serum concentrations increased proportionally with the disease activity of eRA. We observe that concentrations of IL-13 and -17 did not correlate with autoantibodies. IL-17 concentration significantly positively correlated with CRP, while IL-13 concentration significantly negatively correlated with CRP. Disease activity score, DAS28, was strongly positively correlated with levels of ESR and weakly positively correlated with concentrations of anti-RA33 autoantibodies. IL-13 has a higher diagnostic utility than IL-17, CRP, ESR, IgM-RF, and anti-CCP as markers of disease activity. Conclusions. The presence of higher IL-13 and IL-17 serum levels in patients, compared with those of controls, confirms that these markers, found with high specificity, might be involved in the pathogenesis of eRA. IL-13 and IL-17 might be of better usefulness in the prediction of eRA activity status than IgM-RF and anti-CCP

    Communism and the Meaning of Social Memory: Towards a Critical-Interpretive Approach

When one considers the various contemporary appraisals, responses to and positions towards the communist period one identifies and one is obliged to deal with a series of personal and collective moral/political quandaries. In their attempt to bring about historical justice, political elites create a world that conforms more to their needs and desires than to the diversity of meanings of communism, experiences and dilemmas of lay people. This paper argues that one needs to study formal aspects of social memory as well as "lived", often conflicting, attitudinal and mnemonic stances and interpretive frameworks. One needs to strive to find the meaning of the social memory of communism in the sometimes contradictory, paradoxical attitudes and meanings that members of society communicate, endorse and debate. Many of the ethical quandaries and dilemmas of collective memory and recent history can be better understood by describing the discursive and sociocultural processes of meaning-making and meaning-interpretation carried out by members of a polity
