O estudante do curso de Enfermagem e o paciente terminal: uma relação desafiadora

The aim of that study was to verify as the nursing students work with the anguish in the care to the terminal patients. Students of the Nursing Course of third, sixth and eighth semester had participated in this research, accomplished in two universities in Santa Maria/RS. Semi-structured interviews were de signed to explore as the students deal with its own anguish, particularly, during the training. The data were analyzed emerging conceptually five categories: (1) There is not desire to take care of the terminal patient; (2) The search of preparing to take care; (3) Care the terminal patients terminals; (4) Taking care in itself is the Nursing; (5) Preparing requests to practical knowing , it emerges of a “ knowledge that is not known “. Although the space is recognized inside of the Nursing Course to address practical subjects, it is in the personal with the anguish situations that the student learns how handle with it. The reference done to the problem of the anguish still denotes in the student a precarious elaboration of the idea of death, expressed in the contact with terminal patients. From those concepts it was possible to find a road to understand as the students work with distressing contents during the contact with the terminal patients.O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar como os estudantes de enfermagem lidam com a angústia no cuidado aos pacientes terminais. Estudantes do Curso de Enfermagem do terceiro, sexto e oitavo semestre participaram desta pesquisa, realizada em duas universidades em Santa Maria/RS. Entrevistas semi-estruturadas foram designadas para explorar como os estudantes lidam com sua própria angústia, particularmente, durante o estágio. Os dados foram analisados emergindo conceitualmente cinco categorias: (1) Não há desejo de cuidar do paciente terminal; (2) A busca de preparo para cuidar; (3) Cuidado a pacientes terminais; (4) O cuidar em si é a enfermagem; (5) Preparo requer saber prático, emerge de um "saber que não se sabe". Embora se reconheça o espaço dentro do Curso de Enfermagem para lidar com questões práticas, é no confronto pessoal com as situações de angústia que o estudante aprende a lidar com ela. A referência feita ao problema da angústia denota no estudante ainda uma precária elaboração da idéia de morte como experiência de finitude, expressa no contato com pacientes terminais. A partir desses conceitos foi possível encontrar um caminho para compreender como os estudantes lidam com conteúdos angustiantes durante o contato com os pacientes terminais.Palavras-chave: pacientes terminais, estudante, Enfermagem
