The Doha Round, the downfall of the WTO?

    Get PDF
In 1995, when the WTO was institutionalized, its perspectives were great. Today, 151 countries are member states, amongst which international trade moguls like the USA, Japan and China while even Russia is in the midst of its accession negotiations. Looks like a success story. Yet, to no avail, since the Doha Round seems doomed and further negotiations are endangered by the creation of two factions: developed and developing countries accusing each other of non-cooperation and, respectively, of exploitation. The WTO faces its biggest challenge: surpass self interests for the general good and hail for victory or raise the white flag and accept defeat.World Trade Organization, Doha Round, negociations, liberalization

FAIR TRADE, THE FAIREST OF THEM ALL

    Get PDF
Fair Trade is a complex trading partnership which seeks greater equity in international trade by creating closer relationships between the consumers and the producers from the geopolitical North and South. From its shy beginnings as an alternative means of selling craftwork in charity shops, Fair Trade products have become highly accessible to the consumers in Europe and the United States. While sales remain fairly low in global terms, the growth of the Fair Trade market has been phenomenal: in 2008, global Fair Trade sales reached 2.9 billion euros, growing at a rate of 22% per annum. In 2009, this percentage reached 37%. Fair Trade products occupy between 0,5-5% of all sales in Europe and the United States. By 2010, over 1.5 million disadvantaged producers were directly benefiting from Fair Trade, while an additional 5 million were enjoying the fruits of infrastructure and development projects financed through the Fair Trade system. In order to make these possible, Fair Trade has incorporated a dynamic series of products, standards and certification systems, new actors, new political and organizing alliances and more and more complex governmental arrangements.fair trade, WFTO

The legacy of the Kamon in the Japanese management

Japan in itself but especially after the so-called “Japanese miracle” generated a frenzy of questions that searched for the hidden secret recipe for economic growth. Japan has limited land and natural resources, but something special must have led to their economic ascension. Long series of works and studies were aimed at deciphering the inner workings of this amazing culture. Since Japanese culture is so unique and hermetic, it must also be the core reason for its economic successes after the Second World War. Indeed, their culture forged their peculiar type of management that seems to be the key to success. But what exactly did trigger their particular type of management that led to such high economic standpoint? This paper aims to elaborate an explanation of the basis of the Japanese management and underline the reasons for its extraordinary results.Japanese miracle, Japanese culture, Japanese management, economic success

Role of the direct processes in low-energy deuteron interactions

An extended analysis of the key role of direct interactions, i.e., breakup, stripping and pick-up processes, has been carried out for deuteron-induced reactions. Particular comments concern the deuteron breakup which is the dominant mechanism involved in surrogate reactions on heavy nuclei, around the Coulomb barrier.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Celebrating 50 years with two new provocative members

Romania and Bulgaria were admitted into the European Union. Their perspectives in the European Union depend mostly on their previous economic evolution and on their efforts to become European competitive economies. Given the political chaos that has taken hold in other eastern European countries, most of them much richer and stronger than the two newcomers, it is clear that the Balkan pair's road to EU prosperity and stability will be hard.European Union, enlargement process, competitiveness, economic prosperity

New Data about the Trifolium hirtum in Romania

    Get PDF
In The Romanian Flora the Trifolium hirtum species was mentioned by Janca (1979) in Banat, in the Almajului Mountains, Mt. Trescovat, but it was considered dubious in our country (Nyy, 1957), being mistaken for T. diffusum. After about 138 years the presence of the Trifolium hirtum species has been confirmed in Oltenia (Cioclan and Costache, 2004). The method of research used was the observation and the collected material was examined in detail, both rough and preserved, using the binocular magnifying glass. The detailed images were taken with a digital camera provided with a magnifying device. The discovery of this species is of major importance for the flora of our country and that is the reason for its detailed description below. We present the new data about the Trifolium hirtum species in Romania, which consist in some additions to its description and in the proposal of a dichotomy key for its determination and a chorology map with its distribution in Romania. The identification of the species can be made easily by using the key of determination proposed by us, especially as we have not found one in the relevant research literature. On the other hand there are certainly other locations where the species exist and this could be the object of our future research

    Get PDF
The objective of this research is to briefly examine the stipulations of article 1373 of the Civil Code, referring to regulating the tort liability of the principal for the illicit act of the agent. From a comparative point of view with the old provisions, and also in a critical formulation, the study contributes in supporting the recognition of principle nature of the subject under review. Using content analysis, through descriptive documentary research and case-law analysis, this study aims at identifying the content of the obligation for the liability of the principal, presenting a view on the legal status of such type of legal liability. The paper continues further research in this area which has been published in various publications. The concrete results of the research focuse on the examination and interpretation of the new provisions relating to subsistence of the general and special conditions of this type of liability

The Modern Theory of Objective Substantiation of Parental Responsibility for the Illicit Acts Committed by Their Minor Children

Generically speaking, the responsibility exceeds the law domain, but its most relevant forms usually take legal forms. The current coordinates of parental liability for the acts committed by their children know objectifying tendencies of this type of liability. The current tendency in the literature and legal practice is that of extending parental liability, to the extent in which the guilt (through its defining features) faces a serious identity crisis. Facing these realities the legal doctrine and jurisprudence had the no easy task of renovating the traditional legal institutions, by the deep transformation and adaptation of the new social needs
