    O presente texto retoma as discussões iniciadas no artigo "Simila Similibus Curentur: notação histórica da medicina homeopática" (1997), revendo desvios conceituais de outrora e aprofundando o debate histórico sobre as origens da homeopatia. A investigação se faz a partir de duas fontes principais: os textos antigos - Corpus Hippocraticum, obras de Galeno, Paracelso e Hahnemann - e os estudos elaborados por comentadores. Passados nove anos, ocorreu uma paulatina revisão dos conteúdos previamente abordados, retificação de alguns pontos e aprofundamento das discussões, permitindo um significativo amadurecimento das posições manifestas outrora. A homeopatia, 'nascida' no século XVIII, enraíza-se nas próprias origens da medicina ocidental, ao mesmo tempo em que busca florescer neste século XXI, como especialidade que deseja ser autônoma, mas que necessita da legitimação da ciência médica 'tradicional'.<br>Revising earlier conceptual misconstructions and delving deeper into the historical debate on the origins of homeopathy, this text returns to discussions initiated in the article "Simila Similibus Curentur: historical notes on homeopathic medicine" (1997). Research has been based on two main sources: ancient texts - Corpus Hippocraticum and works by Galen, Paracelsus, and Hahnemann - and the studies of commentators. In the nine years since original publication, previously explored content has undergone gradual revision, some points have been corrected, and discussions have developed further, lending substantially greater maturity to earlier positions. 'Born' in the eighteenth century yet rooted in the very origins of Western medicine, homeopathy is endeavoring to blossom in the twenty-first century as a specialty that wants to be autonomous but that needs the legitimacy of 'traditional' medical science

    First Insights into Clinical and Resistance Features of Infections by Klebsiella pneumoniae among Oncological Patients from a Referral Center in Amazon Region, Brazil

    Klebsiella pneumoniae appears as one of the most prevalent pathogens among cancer patients. The present study investigates the clinical, epidemiological and microbiological aspects related to infections caused by K. pneumoniae in cancer patients treated at an oncology referral center in the state of Par&aacute;, Amazon region, Brazil. Between July 2017 to July 2019, an epidemiological, observational, cross-sectional study, with a descriptive and analytical approach was conducted, including patients with confirmed diagnosis of cancer who acquired infection by K. pneumoniae 72 h after hospital admission. K. pneumoniae isolates included in the study were obtained from different clinical materials (blood, urine, catheter tip and bladder catheter, orotracheal secretions, oncological and surgical wounds). Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and molecular detection of the carbapenemase-encoding genes were performed. A high prevalence of MDR K. pneumoniae isolates was observed, including two colistin-resistant isolates and seven isolates harboring blaKPC-1 gene. To conclude, our findings provide the firsts insights into the epidemiology and infection by K. pneumoniae in the state of Par&aacute;, Brazil, and may be useful on treatment guidance and establishment of strategies to control the spread of resistance strains of K. pneumoniae in the region

Ananindeua, PA, Brasil.Cardiovascular Diseases represent the main cause of death in the world, and are associated with risk factors that cause serious complications in cases of infections, such as those of the respiratory tract. In March 2020 the World Health Organization declared a pandemic for SARS-CoV-2, a new coronavirus causing severe pneumonia, which emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The objective is to investigate the occurrence of cardiovascular complications associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. It is a systematic review, quantitative, in the databases, PubMed and Science direct, including primary studies with hospitalized patients confirmed for COVID-19 and who presented cardiovascular complications, the form used tools for evaluation of quality and evidence, following the PRISMA recommendations. Results: 12 studies were included. The occurrence of cardiovascular complications was: 27.35% of the sample of 3,316 patients. Types: Acute cardiac injury 17.09%; Thromboembolism 4.73%; Heart failure 3.43%; Arrhythmias 1.77%; stroke 0.33%. Mean age 61 years. Conclusions: This study showed that there are several cardiovascular complications associated with SARS-CoV-2, that the main one is acute cardiac injury, which causes several instabilities in the cardiopulmonary system, and that it is associated with mortality

Belém, PA, BrazilThe new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) broke out in Wuhan in China in December 2019, causing severe pneumonia and deaths, soon in March 2020, it reached pandemic level, affecting several countries including Brazil. The disease was named COVID-19, with characteristics of most infected having mild and moderate symptoms and a part severe symptom. The disease has already reached 158 ethnic groups, which have high vulnerability and limited access to health services. The objective is to investigate the clinical and spatial characteristics of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome of COVID-19 in the indigenous peoples of Brazil. It is an epidemiological, cross-sectional, analytical ecological study, based on data from the OpenDataSUS platform from 01/01/2020 to 31/08/2020. Profile variables, signs and symptoms and risk factors/comorbidities. The data were analyzed by Bioestat 5.3. There were 1,207 cases and 470 deaths. Profile: male gender (59.48%) means age 53 years. Signs and symptoms: fever (74.23%), cough (77.71%), sore throat (35.62%), dyspnea (69.34%), respiratory discomfort (62.80%), O2 saturation < 95% (56.42%); and associated with mortality: dyspnea (80.0%) and O2 saturation < 95% (69.36%). Risk factors and comorbidities (45.89%) were associated with deaths (54.04%). About comorbidities, chronic cardiovascular diseases represented (18.97%) and Diabetes Mellitus (18.97%), and associated with deaths: Chronic Cardiovascular Disease (24.46%). Being admitted to the ICU has a risk of death in (OR-3.96- < 0.0001-CI-2913/5383) followed by not being vaccinated against influenza (OR-1.85- < 0.0001-CI-1358/2528). The public and health policies of Brazil should be directed to control the dissemination of COVID-19 in this population, that COVID-19 evolves in the same intensity, however, the indigenous have vulnerabilities that can increase the impact of the pandemic in this population

    NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics

    Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecological health and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropical carnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from 35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data were obtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including camera trapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature (peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated in this compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n = 79,343; 79.7%) but also includes non-detection data (n = 20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data (n = 43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute to macroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspectives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distribution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans and safeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combined with other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and related ecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restriction for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of the information used. We also request that users inform us of how they intend to use the data
