A partir de uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a constituição da terapia ocupacional como ciência da saúde, sobretudo quanto à sua evolução na Saúde Mental, discutem-se as diferenças do estatuto das atividades na Psiquiatria clássica e na Reforma Psiquiátrica brasileira. Os resultados da pesquisa revelam as transformações quanto à concepção de saúde e aos meios de trabalho da Terapia Ocupacional, buscando-se abandonar o Paradigma Psiquiátrico Hospitalocêntrico Medicalizador com vias ao Paradigma Psicossocial
