    Single Track Performance of the Inner Detector New Track Reconstruction (NEWT)

    In a previous series of documents we have presented the new ATLAS track reconstruction chain (NEWT) and several of the involved components. It has become the default reconstruction application for the Inner Detector. However, a large scale validation of the reconstruction performance in both efficiency and track resolutions has not been given yet. This documents presents the results of a systematic single track validation of the new track reconstruction and puts it in comparison with results obtained with different reconstruction applications

    We present chant21, a Python package to support the plainchant formats gabc and Volpiano in music21, and two large corpora of plainchant. The CantusCorpus contains over 60,000 medieval melodies collected from the Cantus database, encoded in the Volpiano typeface. The GregoBaseCorpus contains over 9,000 transcriptions from more recent chant books in the gabc format. Chant21 converts both formats to music21, while retaining the textual structure of the chant: its division in sections, words, syllables and neumes. We present two case studies. First, we report evidence for the melodic arch hypothesis from the GregoBaseCorpus. Second, we analyze connections between differentiæ and antiphon openings in the CantusCorpus, and show that the systematicity of the connection can be quantified using an entropy-based measure

    Refitting of combined inner detector and muon spectrometer tracks from Monte Carlo samples by using the Kalman fitter and the STEP algorithm in the ATLAS experiment

    In this paper we refit combined muon tracks using the Kalman fitter and the simultaneous track and error propagation (STEP) algorithm of the ATLAS tracking software. The muon tracks are simulated by GEANT4 in the full detector description, reconstructed by MUID, and refitted by the Kalman fitter in the ATLAS TrackingGeometry. The relative transverse momentum resolution of the refitted tracks is compared to the resolution of the refits done by the global chi-square track fitter, along with the resolution found by the MUID and STACO muon combination algorithms. Reconstructed invariant masses are compared in a similar way

    Tumor sialylation impedes T cell mediated anti-tumor responses while promoting tumor associated-regulatory T cells

    The increased presence of sialylated glycans on the tumor surface has been linked to poor prognosis, yet the effects on tumor-specific T cell immunity are hardly studied. We here show that hypersialylation of B16 melanoma substantially influences tumor growth by preventing the formation of effector T cells and facilitating the presence of high regulatory T cell (Treg) frequencies. Knock-down of the sialic acid transporter created "sialic acid low" tumors, that grew slower in-vivo than hypersialylated tumors, altered the Treg/Teffector balance, favoring immunological tumor control. The enhanced effector T cell response in developing "sialic acid low" tumors was preceded by and dependent on an increased influx and activity of Natural Killer (NK) cells. Thus, tumor hypersialylation orchestrates immune escape at the level of NK and Teff/Treg balance within the tumor microenvironment, herewith dampening tumorspecific T cell control. Reducing sialylation provides a therapeutic option to render tumors permissive to immune attack
