Fragmentation Function in Non-Equilibrium QCD Using Closed-Time Path Integral Formalism
In this paper we implement Schwinger-Keldysh closed-time path integral
formalism in non-equilibrium QCD to the definition of Collins-Soper
fragmentation function. We consider a high p_T parton in QCD medium at initial
time t_0 with arbitrary non-equilibrium (non-isotropic) distribution function
f(\vec{p}) fragmenting to hadron. We formulate parton to hadron fragmentation
function in non-equilibrium QCD in the light-cone quantization formalism. It
may be possible to include final state interactions with the medium via
modification of the Wilson lines in this definition of the non-equilibrium
fragmentation function. This may be relevant to study hadron production from
quark-gluon plasma at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 15 pages latex, Accepted for Publication in European Physical Journal
Renormalization Group Equation and QCD Coupling Constant in the Presence of SU(3) Chromo-Electric Field
We solve renormalization group equation in QCD in the presence of SU(3)
constant chromo-electric field E^a with arbitrary color index a=1,2,...8 and
find that the QCD coupling constant \alpha_s depends on two independent
casimir/gauge invariants C_1=[E^aE^a] and C_2=[d_{abc}E^aE^bE^c]^2 instead of
one gauge invariant C_1=[E^aE^a]. The \beta function is derived from the
one-loop effective action. This coupling constant may be useful to study hadron
formation from color flux tubes/strings at high energy colliders and to study
quark-gluon plasma formation at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 13 pages latex, 4 eps figs, Eur. Phys. J.
Schwinger Mechanism for Gluon Pair Production in the Presence of Arbitrary Time Dependent Chromo-Electric Field
We study Schwinger mechanism for gluon pair production in the presence of
arbitrary time-dependent chromo-electric background field with
arbitrary color index =1,2,...8 in SU(3) by directly evaluating the path
integral. We obtain an exact expression for the probability of non-perturbative
gluon pair production per unit time per unit volume and per unit transverse
momentum from arbitrary . We show that the
tadpole (or single gluon) effective action does not contribute to the
non-perturbative gluon pair production rate . We find
that the exact result for non-perturbative gluon pair production is independent
of all the time derivatives where
and has the same functional dependence on two casimir invariants
and as the constant
chromo-electric field result with the replacement: . This
result may be relevant to study the production of a non-perturbative
quark-gluon plasma at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 13 pages latex, Published in European Physical Journal
Magnetic field-dependent interplay between incoherent and Fermi liquid transport mechanisms in low-dimensional tau phase organic conductors
We present an electrical transport study of the 2-dimensional (2D) organic
conductor tau-(P-(S,S)-DMEDT-TTF)_2(AuBr)_2(AuBr_2)_y (y = 0.75) at low
temperatures and high magnetic fields. The inter-plane resistivity rho_zz
increases with decreasing temperature, with the exception of a slight anomaly
at 12 K. Under a magnetic field B, both rho_zz and the in-plane resistivity
plane rho_xx show a pronounced negative and hysteretic magnetoresistance with
Shubnikov de Haas (SdH)oscillations being observed in some (high
quality)samples above 15 T. Contrary to the predicted single, star-shaped,
closed orbit Fermi surface from band structure calculations (with an expected
approximate area of 12.5% of A_FBZ), two fundamental frequencies F_l and F_h
are detected in the SdH signal. These orbits correspond to 2.4% and 6.8% of the
area of the first Brillouin zone(A_FBZ), with effective masses F_l = 4.0 +/-
0.5 and F_h = 7.3 +/- 0.1. The angular dependence, in tilted magnetic fields of
F_l and F_h, reveals the 2D character of the FS and Angular dependent
magnetoresistance (AMRO) further suggests a FS which is strictly 2-D where the
inter-plane hopping t_c is virtually absent or incoherent. The Hall constant
R_xy is field independent, and the Hall mobility increases by a factor of 3
under moderate magnetic fields. Our observations suggest a unique physical
situation where a stable 2D Fermi liquid state in the molecular layers are
incoherently coupled along the least conducting direction. The magnetic field
not only reduces the inelastic scattering between the 2D metallic layers, but
it also reveals the incoherent nature of interplane transport in the AMRO
spectrum. The apparent ferromagnetism of the hysteretic magnetoresistance
remains an unsolved problem.Comment: 33 pages, 11 figure
Closed-Time Path Integral Formalism and Medium Effects of Non-Equilibrium QCD Matter
We apply the closed-time path integral formalism to study the medium effects
of non-equilibrium gluon matter. We derive the medium modified resummed gluon
propagator to the one loop level in non-equilibrium in the covariant gauge. The
gluon propagator we derive can be used to remove the infrared divergences in
the secondary parton collisions to study thermalization of minijet parton
plasma at RHIC and LHC.Comment: Final version, To appear in Physical Review D, Minor modification,

On the mechanisms of heavy-quarkonium hadroproduction
We discuss the various mechanisms potentially at work in hadroproduction of
heavy quarkonia in the light of computations of higher-order QCD corrections
both in the Colour-Singlet (CS) and Colour-Octet (CO) channels and the
inclusion of the contribution arising from the s-channel cut in the CS channel.
We also discuss new observables meant to better discriminate between these
different mechanisms.Comment: Invited review talk at 3rd International Conference On Hard And

Relativistic predictions of spin observables for exclusive proton knockout reactions
Within the framework of the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation
(DWIA), we investigate the sensitivity of complete sets of polarization
transfer observables for exclusive proton knockout from the 3s,
2d and 2d states in Pb, at an incident laboratory
kinetic energy of 202 MeV, and for coincident coplanar scattering angles
(, ), to different distorting optical potentials,
finite-range (FR) versus zero-range (ZR) approximations to the DWIA, as well as
medium-modified meson-nucleon coupling constants and meson masses. Results are
also compared to the nonrelativistic DWIA predictions based on the
Schr\"{o}dinger equation.Comment: Submitted for publication to Physicical Review C, 23 pages, 7 figure
Infrared Behaviour of The Gluon Propagator in Non-Equilibrium Situations
The infrared behaviour of the medium modified gluon propagator in
non-equilibrium situations is studied in the covariant gauge using the
Schwinger-Keldysh closed-time path formalism. It is shown that the magnetic
screening mass is non-zero at the one loop level whenever the initial gluon
distribution function is non isotropic with the assumption that the
distribution function of the gluon is not divergent at zero transverse
momentum. For isotropic gluon distribution functions, such as those describing
local equilibrium, the magnetic mass at one loop level is zero which is
consistent with finite temperature field theory results. Assuming that a
reasonable initial gluon distribution function can be obtained from a
perturbative QCD calculation of minijets, we determine these out of equilibrium
values for the initial magnetic and Debye screening masses at energy densities
appropriate to RHIC and LHC. We also compare the magnetic masses obtained here
with those obtained using finite temperature lattice QCD methods at similar
temperatures at RHIC and LHC.Comment: 21 pages latex, 4 figures, final version to be published in Phys.

What makes you not a Sikh? : a preliminary mapping of values
This study sets out to establish which Sikh values contrasted with or were shared by non-Sikh adolescents. A survey of attitude toward a variety of Sikh values was fielded in a sample of 364 non-Sikh schoolchildren aged between 13 and 15 in London. Values where attitudes were least positive concerned Sikh duties/code of conduct, festivals, rituals, prayer Gurdwara attendance, listening to scripture recitation, the amrit initiation. Sikh values empathized with by non-Sikhs concerned family pride, charity, easy access to ordination and Gurdwaras, maintaining the five Ks, seeing God in all things, abstaining from meat and alcohol and belief in the stories of Guru Nanak. Further significant differences of attitude toward Sikhism were found in comparisons by sex, age and religious affiliation. Findings are applied to teaching Sikhism to pupils of no faith adherence. The study recommends the extension of values mapping to specifically Sikh populations
Relativistic predictions of exclusive analyzing powers at an incident energy of 202 MeV
Within the framework of the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation
(DWIA), we investigate the sensitivity of the analyzing power - for exclusive
proton knockout from the 3s, 2d and 2d states in
Pb, at an incident laboratory kinetic energy of 202 MeV, and for
coincident coplanar scattering angles (, ) - to
different distorting optical potentials, finite-range (FR) versus zero-range
(ZR) approximations to the DWIA, as well as medium-modified coupling constants
and meson masses. Results are also compared to the nonrelativistic DWIA
predictions based on the Schr\"{o}dinger equation. Whereas the nonrelativistic
model fails severely, both ZR and FR relativistic DWIA models provide an
excellent description of the data. For the FR predictions, it is necessary to
invoke a 20% reduction of sigma-nucleon and omega-nucleon coupling constants as
well as for -, - and -meson masses, by the nuclear
medium. On the other hand, the ZR predictions suggest that the strong
interaction in the nuclear medium is adequately represented by the free
nucleon-nucleon interaction associated with the impulse approximation. We also
demonstrate that, although the analyzing power is relatively insensitive to the
use different relativistic global optical potential parameter sets, the
prominent oscillatory behavior of this observable is largely attributed to
distortion of the scattering wave functions relative to their plane wave
values.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
